I am sure many of us are so bored in the office that when the boss is not looking we are doing something to ease the boredom. Recently some people are fired for browsing facebook on their computer cubicles.... well I did mylotting in the office... I has seen people read some book when the boss are not around, others go to the smoking area and there are people who plays game on their cellphone. I do believe I am professional to some level since I lasted in this miserable job for 7 years.
I think I am guilty for daydreaming in the office, you know sometimes you wanted to escape reality cos it is stressful and boring as hell.
What are the things have you done when your boss is not looking?
How do you procastinate.....?

Hiya Captain
When working as a newly appointed Software programmer in a firm, I was feeling quite bored and had just started a game of Solitare on the windows... and got so engrossed that I almost forgot when the boss arrived and stood next to me... must have watched me for a few minutes before I realized his presence... and I said - hey this is a kool game... maybe we can try to make something similar for the UNIX platform and deliver it as a freebie...
As this boss wasnt that technically sound, he seemed to have appreciated my idea (which I came to know later as he did try to hire people who could program on UNIX... unaware that Solitare came bundled as a freebie with many flavors of Linux)

Some people got FIRED for it? Wow. Isn't that a little extreme? Although I suppose it makes sense if they never finished their work on time and was spending all their working hours on facebook. Some of the lecturers in my university got off with warnings when they were caught browsing facebook during working hours. But I find this quite odd cos the university was promoting using facebook for learning and was giving seminars for it that very same week.

i wish i also had that mucg idle time at work like you do.. :)
for me even if my boss are not around is till have to look like im busy working in front of my pc, because the CCTV is inside our office. so im just in my desk, i usually read ebooks or write something the notepad and practice drawing in paint.
if im tired sitting in my chair, i volunteer to do task that require walking, like photocopying and sending transmittals to other departments.

I guess those tasks kinda give your mind some break after all those boring routines you have to ignore the whole office hours. sometimesI have tendencies to let my mind travel somewhere else.

it happens to everyone, even managers and directors. We all have those kind of days.

I read some articles from printout, and I also might chitchat with other co - workers about those stupid jokes. We had done million of things when the boss is not looking or not around us. That is how we went through all these years. Somehow we just need to relax our minds and bodies to handle all along with those workloads.

Capital C-H-E-C-K. Facebook and other related sites are being blocked in our router but since we are in a technology, we always find ways to bypass the router and "kaboom" we are able to surf on the sites that we want. I usually do it during lunch break though sometimes i get tempted to do it when my boss is not around or is not looking. :)

I know that magic trick too, a certain special website lets me browse websites inside the office and its really working wonders... I changed my ways already I dont do it anymore cos there had been facebook firings.

I am at work and I am basically not doing any more work than I have to do for the rest of the day (I have about an hour left). Now my boss just left and I am on MyLot goofing off a little bit! But my justification is that I worked my BE-HIND off this morning and afternoon so I deserve a little down time. ...I'm sure my boss wouldn't see it that way, but oh well!

I think there is no such thing as perfect employee, people needs a little procastination or they will lose their sanity,

Nope.. We cant afford to do the stuff you mentioned up there. I guess, that means we are indeed a professional group. For an icebreaker, we would pass by a cubicle of an officemate (and i meant pass by huh.. not visit) and do a bit of chitchat for 5 minutes and back to work.
We do get to fo FB during lunch hours.

I think a bit of chit chat is still considered procrastination but its the mildest form. Its like a pinch of salt in a chocolate drink,
