I am a tutor of English and I met a boy who couldn't even remember the most simple words, such as "head""sea""angry". What makes me most disappointed is he doesn't want to learn well and never obey what I told him to do,including memorize the words and finish the homework I arranged him to do. He will make an excuse that he has no time. I wonder how to educate him, by touching him with warm and kind words, or just be strick to him while he may never be afraid and obey. It's so difficult!

If you are just a tutor, not a teacher, I advise being nice to him, but firm. Because in the end his parents are hiring you and if he doesn't like you there is a possibility his parents might fire you. Be nice to him, befriend him, then teach him.

If being 'kind and understanding' doesn't work and being strict then does not work you are in an awkward position. Make sure he hasn't actually got any difficulties with learning a 'new' language. If he has tutors for other subjects maybe have a quick word with them to see if hes difficult there also. Theres only so far you can push a person before they will completely shut out what you're saying. Another thing would be trying to force him to learn it sure it may work for a small amount of time but then everything you ended up teaching him will go to waste while hes ot with you. It's easy to memorize things for a moment and just as easy to forget them. Try something to get him excited about English, an english movie, play and so on. But at the end of the day if hes fit to do the work but just unwilling you can't do much more than you have already tried. You can't help those who don't want help, and you can't teach those unwilling to learn. Goodluck none the less
