Every New Year's Eve in Holland we would go to my Oma's (grandma's) house and sit at her kitchen table while she fried us up some Olie Bollen. The smell was absolutely amazing and we always got them hot out of the frying pan, smothered in powered sugar. And she also fixed all of life's problems in that kitchen. Years later my mom and daughter get together in the kitchen around Christmas time and bake cookies. I'm not allowed to be there. I wonder what they talk about? Got any favorite kitchen memories?

my favorite kitchen memory is when anyone from my family celebrates his birthday and then my mom starts to cook spaghetti, lumpia shanghai, and my all time favorite: bok choy viand. i only assist her in cooking before, but now im an adult, i took charge of cooking. i must admit, my cooking is not that bad compared to moms' :D

Oh lumpia!! One of my fave foods. I still ask my mom to make that for us once in a while. But she never has time these days. Fun memories, especially ones with food, are the greatest!

Well..,-I can say that I have many fond memories of my grandmother's cooking treats, in addition to her secret recipes that I carry with me unto this day. One of my favorite recipes is her baked spiced ham slow simmered in brown sugar, pineapples, cloves..,-oops, sorry can't tell the rest, it is a secret recipe many would literally die for.

Oh memories are so good for the soul! I remember my mum cooking hot cakes on a rainy cold winter day we would all sit in the kitchen and hear stories from long ago...and grandma's kitchen on sunday mornings making meat pies and fresh pasta it seems we had spent a lot of time in the kitchen and I have to say we still keep that tradition today! in my new home I have an open dinning room and kitchen so we all sit at the table when some one is cooking something and of course there is always some old tale to say of long ago.

It is the heart of the home. And you're so right, these memories are good for the soul. Does your family eat dinner together around the kitchen table?

Great kitchen memories you have there, gtargirl. I remember fondly the time I lived in upstate NY as a child because of so much time we spent around our kitchen table. The kitchen was literally the center of our home. We lived near the school where my sisters and I attended and our house was often the hang out spot for kids who lived further out of town and would just stay around for after school sports and other activities. Fun times for my family. I love remember our dog that would hang out under the table during those times ready to ponce the second anyone drop food.

What a wonderful kitchen memory. I love homes like that where kids can come hang out and feel safe. And, of course, there has to be a dog.

I remember watching them bring the baby chicks in the Fall. And I remember helping my grandmother make her famous cake. It had this great flavor and although I continually watched her I could never get it down. And I remember alot of granma and I at the kitchen sink washing dishes after dinners with the family.

I think they always leave out one secret ingredient and never tell us. My aunt did that to us, but we figured it out ... 30 years later. I bet your grandma had a wonderful, cozy kitchen.
