Be it at home, or travelling i invariably sleep with my mouth half open. this is very embarrassing when people point out this to me. I make it a point to keep my mouth shut tightly before i go to sleep. But when i wake its open always. Please help me out of this problem

Assuming that I'm not a doctor so I can not explain rationally why you sleep with your mouth open, at least let me tell you that I do not find anything strange. Perhaps it might embarrass you, towards other people? I say, What do you care! You sleep as you want, the bottom does not hurt anyone to sleep in that way, I say ok?
If you may want to look into this strange "phenomenon", maybe talk to those who understand these things if it. in all the ways I in your place would not consider this as a problem.
At least that is my opinion.

Yes i know its not hurting me in any way except that when i wake up and see myself with mouth open i feel bad and embarrassing. I do get a good sound sleep no mater where i lie down.I dont know when a foreign body will get into my mouth hehe and cause problems. But it seems more decent to keep ones mouth shut when sleeping.

I agree with dragon. You probably are breathing through your mouth at night. For what ever reason your nose is blocked at night. I have a swelling in one nostril that blocks my nose when I lay down. Try some of those breath right strips. They help me. You can get a sample on line.

If there is nothing medically wrong with you, why should you care? And why are people looking at you while you sleep, are they so desperate for entertainment?
If you do have a blockage that makes your body open your mouth you might try those strips that go over your nose to open it up. There is a brand called Breathe Right, if they don't have them there look them up and study how they are made and make one yourself out of tape. That's really all they are, pieces of tape that go on a certain part of your nose and opens up your sinus passages. Only they've given them a fancy name and tacked on a high price!
Don't be so self conscious. Tell those people to find a better form of entertainment.

Perhaps i am a bit more self conscious. Thats why i keep worrying about it. Still dont you think its with mouth shut the proper way to sleep?Keeping the mouth open looks very bad and awkward

I don't think there's a way to stop it. When you're sleeping, your body becomes relaxed and your jaw will loosen, causing it to open a little. I'm pretty sure that most people sleep like this, especially when they're really tired. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I know that I myself sleep like that and I don't feel embarrassed. Try not to worry about it.

If you are sleeping that way, I don't know that there's anything you can do to prevent it. You probably just need to learn to live with it. We all do weird stuff when we sleep - snore, talk in our sleep, kick people (lol), but I really don't think it's something we can control. And you shouldn't be embarrassed about it...We all do some kind of weird thing when we sleep. . I would think it would be more embarrassing to be CAUGHT watching someone while they sleep ... LOL.

Hmmm your mouth is open means you wants laddu(sweets) but I also like sweets and dont want to share with anybody hhaha..just kidding. Many time while sleeping in train or bus while traveling our mouth is opened and we not know about this but surrounding people see this and laugh.

I dont think everyone has this problem because i have seen many people sleep comfortably with their mouth shut. Its ok for me when i am at home and there are no strangers around. But when i am traveling and with many passengers around i feel very bad when i am caught with my mouth open

It is only natural to sleep with your mouth open by the way. Who ever keeps pointing this out should see themselves when sleeping they probably do the same if not more. (snoring, passing wind, talking) Hahahaha I sometimes wake up still sucking my thumb! Now that's embarrassing. Better to have a great sleep than keep waking up worrying about it. If its not giving you a good sleep then you should worry :0)

I dont know if its natural because i have seen people sleep with their mouth shut. They look must more at calm and peace than people who keep their mouth open. I am trying hard to keep it shut but so far no success.

It is naturally to open our mouth when we are asleep. It is not something to be embarrassed about. Our mouth opens because our muscles are in a relax state when we are asleep. If you want to minimize the chances of your mouth opening while you are asleep in the public such as train, buses, etc, you can try changing the way you sleep. Maybe you can bend your head down while you sleep, BUT there is a chance of you drooling, so, just be careful. There is not much you can do, it is just a natural habit of human.
