Unrealized Dream

I got home from the office one afternoon when my daughter came to me and ask me this question. "Mama, what was your dream when you were a child?" "I have a simple dream during those time actually. I wanted to be a sewer," was my reply. There was a long silence, then she finally said, "Oh, how sad. Mama, I feel sorry for you." "But why?" I asked her. "Because until now you were not able to reach your dream yet."

Individuals the world over tend to all have unrealised dreams of some sort and this is not really uncommon, infact this is what motivate some persons to be focused and to lead disciplined lives. The notion of having unrealised dreams can help to even foster stronger bonding between parent and child to some extent and even lead to the creation of thriving careers in some instances. Many persons use the onset of unrealised dreams to make themselves very influential speakers and motivational orators especially when it involves long jail terms, these persons can play an influential role in the lives of young persons like students, orphans and victims of certain forms of abusive relationships.

Yes this is really true. Most of the times we get more than we expected. I am thankful for all these blessings in life. BTW I would like to thank you for giving a response on this discussion.

Well, this little girl's question may be both simple and deep.We all have dreams when we are young. But many of us do not realise it.Maybe our dreams may be a little naive. But that is our dream.Maybe we live a better life than what we expect. But our dreams are still out there waiting for us to realise it.
When I was young,i want to become a cop.But now I am a lawyer.I do not realise my dream too.

That is beyond what we expect we could achieve in life. We should always be thankful of all the blessings we have.

Very often, the dreams that we had when we were young are very different from the dreams that we have now.
There are many reasons for this occurrence. Many a time, we realise that our dreams when we had during our younger days are not realistic and therefore, we change it.
How many of us can proudly say that we had attined our dreams that we had when we were young? very few. What your daughter told your had made me reflected that the dreams we say we have today, might not even be a read dream. But one that has been shaped by our parents and the society at large.

Hi dream_ozn! Yes.It's really true. When I was a child I can see my mother sewing native placemats. A dozen of that as far as I remember is not even enough to buy 1 kilo of rice during those times. She also makes some dresses but not having a proper education, she can not do those complicated designs. That is the reason why I dream of being a sewer. I collect those leftover cloth and make clothes for my doll which my mother got from a garbage bin when she goes to the city. Sometimes, if I keep on sharing my story when I was a child, my children would tell me I am unli which stand for unlimited text. But I just cannot control myself from sharing my experiences.

Yeah don't feel bad we all have had dreams that we weren't able to reach. Your dream of being a sewer though seems like it would be possible for you to work at. When I was younger I wanted to be a teacher. As I got older my dreams for that changed. I now am not sure exactly what I would like to do. I know though that I want to do something that I find enjoyable. I'm thinking about going to college and getting a degree. So hopefully the sooner I start the closer I will be to reaching my goal.

Thank you Dominique! You can always start reaching for your dream. If that what would make you happy and satisfied. Good luck!

That was just an ordinary dream. Anyone can become a sewer, but only a few dreamed of becoming the best sewer. A dream is the start of accomplishing something, either for personal or for other purposes. Your daughter had opened a big loophole in what we dream of and failed. Having a dream is not enough, but how to realize that dream is much more difficult than just saying it in words. A very strong desire to achieve such a dream is needed. You are not alone in this. There are many of us, who have a dream but that dream didn't come true, even after finishing a degree in college.

Hi. Thank you for this wonderful response. Yes. My daughter knew it all the while. She is on her first year in high school. She was not expecting that I have a dream as simple as that. So, to I told her again that I was not able to reach that dream because I had to wake up and realized that I have to aim for more.

If I had to take a guess I would say that your daughter is probably far more important to you than dreams you had as a child and I think I would convey that to her. Everyone has dreams as a child, but dreams also change over time. People lose interest in some subjects and gain interest in other subjects. There is nothing wrong with that. As long as you're happy doing what you are doing right now and/or have plans, dreams, goals, etc. that you are actively working on for the future, that's all that matters.

Hi MyLifez! Yes you are correct. My family is my inspiration all the time. I never gave up on this childhood dream. I just have to concentrate on more important matters. And that is giving the best for my children.

I think that very few people actually manage to achieve their dreams. They're called dreams for a reason and that is because not many of them are about to be real and they're more about having things to aim for in the long term rather than something that would actually be able to happen for you. I have a lot of dreams and I know that not all of them are going to be able to happen because life just doesn't work like that; but even with this being the case you should never give up on your dreams because I don't think that we would be able to survive without them.

Hi GemmaR! Thanks for the response. That was one of my funny moments with my daughter. That was my childhood dream. I just realized that had I concentrated on that career, I might not be able to send her to the best school she have right now.
