Hey there gang, Well i got this great tip on the internet and it says that if you were to climb up a four floors then you will burn 100 calories if not carrying anything well i plan to come up 4 floors 5 times and do it on a fast or running pace, it says that you will increase the burn if you try to do it faster than just walking up i need the burn, i need to know how much my burn will be so that i can loosen weight much faster I'm 182 now and i need it to be 179 lbs by next week so i guess i have to push right, how about you do you use the stairs that you have at your home or workplace as a workout tool.

That's right the simplest things you do everyday can keep you up in shape. Walking up the stares instead of taking the elevator, going to a store near your house on foot than taking your car to go, getting your dog for a walk, are some of these simple things that doesn't seem as a workout but they are when you doesn't do a sport or when you don't go to a gym or something

Dear Deodavid Waling the stair may be good but can be dangerous. You may hurt your ankle. You should try to do strength training to increase your metabolism. Such exercise does help to burn calories even at rest. I do not recommend you to skip aerobic exercise. It does help to burn fats from your body. It should be non-impact exercise such as waling, swimming and cycling. But it should be done for at least 30 min. per day for 3 days a week. Should you need more info please continue this this thread. Thanks a million. Bro. Joe. GBU

Hey there my friend it is true that stairs maybe dangerous but most people are smart enough to try something than they can tolerate although better them warned right so thanks for that correction anyway i am merely suggesting this so that if ever the people can understand that the stairs that they climb in the office or there homes can be very helpful to there weight loss and healthy lifestyle. No problem man thanks for the comment.

I am always telling people that there is no need to ever join a gym because there are plenty of things that you can do in the comfort of your own home in order to lose weight. I will put my iPod on top volume and set a playlist of around ten minutes long and will then walk up and down the stairs in my house for as long as the songs last for. I have lost six and a half stone in the past 16 months and I know that part of it is because of the exercise that I have been doing up and down the stairs several times each week.

i know a good thing you would like that might be helpful, i use to have one go to the store and get you a pedometer.. that counts your steps taken daily and you can set a certain amount of steps every day. when i did it i would just walk around the house or even run in place or step in place or dance just to get my numbers on it work.. but try get a good one the cheap ones are not the best.. but the better ones are not that expensive either .. just look at it before getting and read the package that helps choose the best one..

That is interesting a counter that counts how much you step , anyway i dont have any stats on how many steps needed to burn the right amount of calories but it is a good suggestion i'll research on that to get perspective, thanks for the tip.

That's a good form of home exercise, but you could also use a chair or an elevated platform, going up from one foot raise alternating with the other for 20 counts. A light exercise is the inclined push-up, using a table or chair as the fixed point with counts of 50.

Step ups, the exercise with the use of a flat form to mimic the going up and going down motion on a stairs so that you can exercise at home with a simulated stairs kinda action well that is a great idea my friend at least you can do it in the comfort of your own home, ingenious.

yeah not only it is simple it is also free and very accessible the only thing that is hard is motivating yourself to actually do the deed for me there were days that i couldn't workout but have so i try to think of quick ways that i can loose the calories and avoid boredom and not wanting to workout.

I understand that climbing up stairs can burn calories, but I don´t know if I will be able to do it as my knees hurt. I´m beginning to walk as a way of exercising. I have been very sedentary for months due to my being on a chemo treatment. That left me with just enough energy to write in my computer.

Hi marguicha, Well baby steps they say in your country right baby steps, exercise that is allowed by your physician or your own strength is what i think is suited for you and i think you know that already, maybe when your strong enough and already in a much better shape you can start more on your walking then if it is really okay the stairs but in just one repetition i guess, you are strong you've done chemo and for me i think that right there makes you a much stronger person than i am.

That's why it is very effective my friend because it makes you more tired and yet still help you in getting healthy in any exercise this really happens in the beginning but eventually it will subside and you will be much more comfortable with it in a while.

I'm not sure where you got your info from. I burn 10 calories per floor when I run up the stairs, four floors would be only 40 cal. I weigh 165 pounds so even assuming our 17 pound difference you wouldn't lose 100 cal for 4 floors. It is fantastic though. You can walk fast up two flights of stair a minute and burn 20 calories but walking fast on the flat for a minute only uses 4-5 calories. So if you can manage to run up and down the stairs for 20 minutes its equivalent to a 40-50 minute walk. I've been sneaking runs up the stairs at work to help me lose weight, I'm aiming at 150. Every time I leave my office for anything (about 3-4 times a day) I make sure I run up the 5 flights we have and back. No-one misses me for the 3 minutes I'm gone but I'm adding a 180-240 cal workout into each work day. If I had stairs at home I'd be using them each night. I'd like to know if you did manage to lose the 3 pounds and if the stairs made any difference.

Wow loubeth that is really informative, i got the info in a hospital here in my country every time people uses the stairs they get to read it and use the stairs more often, well i kinda did not do most of the workout on the stairs because i went on a vacation and i kinda did not continue on the exercise so i guess i don't have actual info for you, anyway thanks for sharing i believe that you can also use this as a discussion so that people can be aware right?
