I don't want spend too much money on a desktop computer, but lately while I was browsing the web, at microcenter webpage, I saw this All - in - One computer, with touch screen function, and 6 Gigbyte memory, 1 Terabyte hard drive, etc.... everything else sounds pretty decent, and it is only $399 before tax. The catch is that it is a refurbished product, or open box. Do you think it is worth buying it? I want to get it but I am still in hesitation. What is your experience with refurbished product?

Hey, don't listen to the hype!
Man, I am the KING of refurbished products!
This is how I save all my money.
My two LG HDTVs are refurbished. One 32" and one 42". My stereo is refurbished. My monitor is refurbished. My PlayStation III is refurbished. My GE flat-top range is refurbished. My LG bottom-freezer fridge is refurbished. Heck, even my favorite piece of furniture, my recliner, is refurbished!
Why pay full price for a product when you don't have to?
In my experience, "refurbished" means a few things.
It means:
1) Somebody purchased the product and then returned it for nonpayment, they didn't want it, etc. (The case with 1 of my TVs and my monitor)
2) The store actually used it as a display model. (My big TV, my fridge and stove)
3) A rent center repossessed the item. (My PS3 and recliner)
Refurbished doesn't mean used. It would be listed as "used" if it was a product that has moderate to heavy use and was just returned. Often times refurbished means they received a return or repossessed the item and returned it to its working condition. But in the case of an "open box" product, you're most likely looking a store return that wasn't hardly used whatsoever.
I've never had 1 single issue with a refurbished product that I can think of.
I make it a point to seek out refurbished products. When I want to buy something, that's the first place I look.

PS
If you see a fridge you like but it costs $1,300, just accidentally kick the floor model and then come back two days later and ask if you can purchase the floor model.
You'll get it for less than 50% of the asking price and they'll even clean the thing for you!

hi,
now a days there are more people who are computer literate, and its advantage when you have knowledge in computer trouble shooting because that will be your edge, and you have to take a risk for that.but in my experience its not bad to try one.

Well I think that's a good offer. You have to consider some ooops also. Like maybe the warranty and return policy. And most of the credibility of the seller.
apple.com US has refurbish product brands also if you want.
Last year, I have single purchased of a refurbished or used Samsung Laser Printer (monochrome with a duplexer function). I don't need a color ink jet printers or laser colored printers, and beside of that I don't print a lot. I just go out to printshops if need colored prints. Laser Toner don't dry like ink jet printers if not use for longer period of time. The Samsung laser printer can print back to back because of its duplexer function, and to use less paper.

You need to get the history behind why this desktop computer was refurbished. My boyfriend is currently using a refurbished cell phone as he had to return the original due to some of its technical issues.
I am not fond of refurbished computers. But I will say as long as it is directly from the store you should not see much problem coming from it. We once bought a refurbished Compaq laptop from a private party. The lady was a computer technician and so she knew how to fix such things. Oh boy, the laptop kept sucking money out of us again and again. Within two years, its motherboard ended up burning.

To my mind, i won't buy a refurbished digital product unless i am short of money and urgently need it. New things always lighten people except spouses. What's more, second-hand stuff is not as endurable as new one. If refurbished product can be sure to be ok and functional, though, i don't think there is any need for us to waste money. In sum, that depends.

I think that it depends on who or where you buy it from. This computer that you are writing about is from an online site. So what happens if you get it and it does not work right. Then what? Shipping it back is going to cost you some bucks.
I think that it would be a different story if you were to buy a refurbished computer from a store or person in your own community. You can see it, try it and if there are problems, carry it back. From a store, you might even get a warranty.
I have an Apple Macbook and there are authorized Apple sellers right in my community. I believe that my refurbished computer would even come with a warranty.
