Okay, it's been a whole week without work. It's the lenten season here in the Philippines and I'm stuck at home, very bored.
I try to do many things like clean the house, sort out my plans for the following week, talk to my family, watch movies, post on mylot, draw, etc. But these things I do don't entertain me anymore. I wonder why? I guess it's because I want to do something that would generate income. Even though I know that it's important to respect the lenten season, i just feel like it's also like wasting time.
I better go to church or join a procession, maybe it will do me some good.
How about you? What do you do when you are bored? How do you entertain yourself during a boring week?

I´m a sociable person, so I like to have people around me or visit friends. Every weekend, I plan and call to see if I can do something out of my normal life. Last Friday, I invited a friend for tea. She is being treated for brest cancer and lives alone. So she came, we walked to a nearby supermarket that was open to buy some bread and had our nice tea time. We both had fun. Yesterday I was invited for lunch to a friend´s house. She surprised me with homemade shrimp empanadas. Thet were delicious. And today I´m to go over to my younger daughter´s home for lunch and watch the egg hunting of the smaller kids.

Hi marguicha. You are great. I believe to have relation with real people is the best think which we can do. Usually I am never bored. I love to study, to help others online. All the time I can find somethink useful or fun to do. Usually I look for people who really enjoy to read in voice. I saw that helps a lot people who are alone or want to be with someone. So if you have more friends who are alone and they have internet connection we can talk a little. Using voice by internet is a good way to spent free time. Just talking is not easy, you have to be a very good speaker. Instead of that I can read from books. So if someone love to liste fairy tails, self-improvement books, so on, I love to read in voice for them. So, for everyone, I believe using internet we can do a lot of fun and useful things. Congrats again Marguicha. I wish to be a social man. Being between real people is the best place in the world. Small groups are better. Have a very nice day! Cata

That's good. thank you. I did that before, i used to sleep over at my friends' house and talk until dawn with them. I visit my high school friends sometimes. It would have helped me now if only they weren't so busy. And when i text them, they don't reply. I think my friend is preoccupied with her two sons so she doesn't have much time for me anymore. :/ But I totally understand that.

Well, when I'm bored I usually watch TV play or play some computer games maybe, but most of the times that doesn't help. My suggestion is to go out with friends or go for a movie or something.Good luck.

Maybe we're just too used on being productive and earning money always that's why when we're not doing productive things, we think like it's wasting our time. I always feels that too whenever I'm not doing anything productive. I always feel like I have to do something productive. It feels like I have to earn money always. The feeling won't go away. This week, I just Mylotted and read a lot of books.

Well, I have an online reading club. And I agree that reading books is actually a productive activity in some way, like for our personal improvement, mental and emotional.

hi automndreamer.
I believe if there is nothing productive in money could be productive in education, in improving ourselves. You are right about reading books. That will help a lot. I can't be bored at my home using internet never. If you like to read books maybe you can build online reading circles or reading clubs. I like to hear that from you. I strongly believe that reading help a lot for our education, feelings, life. Good luck!

Every once in a while my job will have a week that I am off more then twice, usually four times. This happened to me a few months ago and I though I was going to go stir crazy. Not only that but by the time I got back to work I was so thankful to be there, but so very lost as I kept having to look at the PLU codes so I could get people checked out! I'd forgotten some of them by that time!
When I am bored and have nothing to do I try to come online to earn money, or if I am bored of that I usually sleep or watch some t.v.
Overall I am not a t.v. watcher so when I do watch t.v. it's usually late at night.

I know that I'm not supposed to say this--but please do not be offended--I cannot handle long sermons and other traditional duties good Christians do to praise God. That must be why God placed me in the age where computers and gadgets are rampant. I had to make myself useful and make money. I believe that the reason why God has placed me here is because I need to make money to solve my mother's financial problems, grant her dreams and give her the life she deserves. So my way of praising God is by doing my duty that he gave me.
I do not see the point of being not progressive during the Holy Week. Though I understand and respect that we have to celebrate it to remember Jesus's love and sacrifice, I still think that God would have want us to do the assignment he's given us. What I mean to say is, to celebrate the Lenten season is okay. But my function is to never stop until I reach my goal.
So what do I do when I feel bored? I make money.

Oooh, i want to hug you! I feel the same way when it comes to praising God. Sometimes it's good to lay low once in a while and thank god, ask for his guidance and pray. But sometimes it drags on for too long and that is when i feel really bored because i don't like the feeling of being unproductive. We have become so accustomed to a busy life(I have been nursing student before and a teacher also) so when things become to un-busy for too long I panic.
I'll look for a job tomorrow. Hopefully i will pass the interview and get in that good company.

Hi katie. You are right about reading. I wish to have 48 hours / day to read. Sametime I am thinking about reading in voice. That is good too. Reading slowly in voice can make us to feel deeper the meaning of the world, expressions, what the writer want to tell us. I believe like you, having books is impossible to be bored.
Good luck!

God bless the audiobooks, it's one great invention. I however don't think I'll ever read that way but if life gets really busy cause the 'taste' of having your eyes going through the lines, your imagination working while at it it's something that I love to do since 5. I actually used to smell books anc couldn't wait the moment I would read them. I'm sure I loved it from other reincarnation cause otherwise how could I just love those papers

@Aja, I spent the previous week attending a religious congregation of Bible-believers at our place. It has a three-day Thanksgiving celebration.
Frankly, going to Church or joining a procession are not wise options. You may want to read the Bible and discover Biblical truths that will surely change your convictions and reveal fascinating truths about God, life and salvation.

Hmm... I've read the bible story when I was 10 and i still remember some valuable stories there. And the bible, the formal one, kinda bores me. I would rather discuss the words in it with someone rather than reading it alone.
But thank you for that suggestion, I might try that out. :)

Don't forget, it is also summer here in the Philippines so we "Fresh out of High School" kids are going to be facing boredom every day until enrollment starts.
I mostly just go out with my friends and try to spend the minimum (no class means no allowance. Haha) or stay at home and try to entertain myself by watching TV, playing games like chess, or singing a song. Hey, don't forget karaoke! Ang pambansang boredom buster ng Pinoy. Now that the lenten season is over, I bet it'll be easier to find something to do, right? Best wishes!

Hi Rustydenim. Karaoke is great! I played in group long time ago online. Was very fun to play together same song. You can open on youtube any favorite song with lirics on it and play together. I believe a good thing is to open in a social youtube. Usually I prefer to talk online, in voice. There are billionns of people. So, I never can be bored online! Good luck!

I rarely get bored these days. I used to, but since I started practising Zen around 30 years ago, I have learned how to sit and do nothing. Each day in meditation I sit and focus on the in-breath and the out breath, to the exclusion of all other thoughts. I learned that boredom was my mind's attempt to get me to not know myself better, and I faced it. Acceptance is the beginning of mastery in life and to accept boredom is ultimately to master it. _Derek

hi derek_a. You are great. Be able to meditate is a good way to don't be bored. I believe you are good. Do you think by meditating you can be good in helping others or doing some good works for others. Maybe in your meditation you can find images about you doing some good facts around you. It's just an opinion. I am thinking everyday what to do around me. If I don't find people around me I am lookig for online to find people who like to do something with me. I am interested in education. I believe education, study so on, are very important. I have to learn to how to meditate. I am sure that will help me a lot to discover better what I really want to do with my life.
Good luck!

three days is good. Not too long, not too short either. Good to keep up with things that we have come to neglect because of work and busy schedules.

When I know nothing can be done for a full day, week or month I prepare for it! Most of the people in mylot joined as to not be bored. There are times When we purposely remove anything having communication abilities. I choose these times to arm myself with study. I'll study about my camera and it's abilities. I'll buy a book to learn more about a subject. I'll work on my balance or stretch muscles to gain flexibility. In the end I believe Lent is a time for soul searching and enjoying family. The Catholic Church always told us to give something up during lent. I've always thought Lent was more important than that! I spend time cleaning out closets and organizing what I'd be giving to charity.
Idle time and I never got along.

Same as you are. Lenten season is a welcome holiday for me because I got a rest from a consecutive 21 straight work day. I needed the holidays that came in. But yes, being so accustomed to doing something in work then having nothing to do at home is quite uncomfortable at times. We had a plan to go somewhere out but the plan got cancelled and I ended up spending the holidays at home. Yes, it is quite boring and awful because I get to reflect on things that I have been missing on my life recently. But at least, I already got a grasp of the ideas that should counter those reflections around. As part of my campaign to get out of boredom during the off work days, I spend it trying to download and watch many series and also doing sports. But most of the holiday that I spent is about rest and sleeping only. Just sleep it out.

haha, during the lenten season i just read a book until i fall asleep right beside it. Then i also went to my friend's house and slept over in their home. It was relaxing but I had a problem bugging me for the last two weeks so i feel really anxious sometimes. I think it maybe because of those pills i took, that is why i'm experiencing mood swings.

Everyone of us experience boredom. When I am bored, I usually try to find something that will entertain me. This includes watching movies, listening to music, playing with my dog, playing with my nephew, chatting with my friends, surfing the net, doing some online jobs, checking my Facebook or do some household chores. Lenten season seems to be boring because almost all malls are closed especially during Good Friday and there were only few people who go out in the street. Being bored sometimes is only in the mind. It may be due to lack of happiness on what you usually do.I suggest that when you find something boring, try a different activity like the one you never did before or something new to you.
