Today my husband and I visited my mother-in-law and we had a nice dinner together. After our dinner we had coffee and read some magazines that my mother-in-law had. She often buys the magazines about the celebrities. In those magazines we can read the latest gossip and the latest news about the celebrities and there always are lots of photos of the popular actors, singers etc. I flip through the magazines when I visit my mother-in-law, but I don't buy them myself, because I am not especially interested in the latest gossip.
Today I don't buy any magazines, but when I was younger I often bought the monthly magazines for women. Those magazines contained articles, interviews, fashion reports, beauty tips and many other things. I also bought a psychology magazine sometimes, because they had many interesting articles. Sometimes I wanted to buy the travel magazines as well, but they were really expensive, so I didn't actually buy them.
Do you read any magazines? What kinds of magazines do you read or which magazines did you read in the past?

hi there,
i like reading magazines but i don't really have a favorite. i like to read about men and women's health for me and my boyfriend because i always worry about his health since he is not a healthy food eater.
and also i like reading about fashion and must haves for health and beauty and also summer since it is a tropical country and it is hot all year round hehehe.
i only buy the back issues because they are way cheaper than the new ones. they are like almost 70 percent off so that is really a great deal.

I am jealous at you because you live in a country with a tropical climate. Summer all year around sounds wonderful to me, our winters are so cold. It is "spring" now, but I still have to wear a big coat It is great that you can buy back issues without spending a lot of money. In my country are not as cheap as they are in your country, but it still cheaper than buying the new issues. Sometimes I visit the second hand shops where we can buy the back issues. I did that today, but they didn't have the magazines I was looking for, so I am going to return another time.

If you visit Denmark in January or February (the coldest months), you will definetely get the chance to wear a big coat, a scarf, a warm hat, gloves and winter boots, because it is too cold to walk around outside without those things On one of those cold winter days I just feel like getting back inside as fast as possible. Inside the house I turn up the heating, make myself a hot drink and hide under a thick blanket I am going to visit Asia soon and I really look forward to experiencing a different kind of climate.

awwww i would love to go to Denmark someday. i am sure it's really beautiful and pretty amazing.
the only place i went to where there is winter was only Hong Kong and China but my boyfriend said, the weather they have their was just like spring in the states so he didn't have any problems with the weather there but i felt like i was freezing already hehehe. he even goes out in the winter in just his T-shirt in New York he is such a polar bear haha.
but yeah i would love to go to countries where there are winter spring too. i just want to experience other things too and wear some big coats, scarves and boots also . but it is also fun here because you get to be comfortable with whatever you are wearing. even just a shirt, a pair of shorts and slippers and you are good to go hehehe.
yeah you can come back anytime, i'm sure you'll find something next time.

hi porcospino.
how have you been? its been awhile, hopefully, i get to bump into you more often in the discussion boards here in mylot.
back to the discussion on hand, yes i do read a lot of magazines. i'm an avid reader and i find myself looking at magazines a lot. i usually buy old issues of magazines so that i can save on cost. as my interest varies, the types of magazines i read vary as well. i usually buy and read the following magazines:
*'the source' and 'xxl' since i listen and am a fan of a lot of hip-hop artists.
*'fhm' us and uk editions, lol! self-explanatory here.
*'men's health' magazine and other fitness magazines since i like to work out and stay fit.
*'reader's digest' because of the variety of articles that they have.
*'time' and 'newsweek' since i like to be updated with current events.
indeed, with the advent of the internet, one can argue about the unnecessary purchasing of magazines but i still like to buy magazines nonetheless. the feeling of holding the pages of a magazine and looking at its glossy pictures is far better than scrolling through its articles in its website.
just my 2 cents.
cheers and happy mylotting!

hi porcospino.
well at least you are saving up on for something. you know your priorities and you know how to accomplish it. cutting back on spending on magazines is a good thing if you know that you'll be travelling to a preferred place after a certain time. where are you going this time? also, nice to note that you are taking your husband with you. travels such as this strengthen the relationship.
reader's digest is really a good magazine. i use to subscribe to it but i had to cut back since i'm also saving up. anyway, good luck in your saving and do keep us posted about the travel that you are planning to take.
cheers and happy mylotting!!!

My husband and I are planning a trip to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. The plane ticket from Europe to Asia is relatively expensive so when we go to Asia we want to visit several countries at the same time. We have saved up part of the money that we need for the trip, and I hope that we will manage save up the rest of the money during the next months so that we will be able to travel in November and December this year. We are not completely sure yet as we still need the rest of the money, but I really hope that it will be possible
Neither of us have been to Asia before, do we are very excited about the trip. I also believe that travelling strengthens the relationship and I am very happy that we are going to travel together and share the experience.

Hi! It has been a while since we talked, it is nice to see you in my discussion
I am avid reader, too, but unfortuneately new magazines are expensive, and I have cut back on those things as I am trying to save up money for travelling. Even second hand magazines are relatively expensive in my country, but I still like to visit the second hand shops sometimes. I can see from your choice of magazines that you have many different interests. I also read Reader's digest and I started reading it by coincidence. Someone gave me some of his old magazines, and I liked the varity of articles. Last time my husband and I travelled we bought many old issues of Reader's digest and read them while we were travelling.

since childhood I was a subscriber of a gaming magazine known as EGM I lvoe that magazine cos it reviews games and ever april fools they have those "fake games" that hypes people...Its really funny. sadly they closed down 3 years ago because you know people prefer internet over money. I also love other gaming magazines like Gamespot, Playstation Magazine and IGN.
I also read Playboy, oops I know what you are thinking. Well Playboy is not a pornmagazine at all. yeah the ladies have no clothes but the photoshoots are artistic and were done with taste. There is no lovemaking on it. Its just pictures of women wearing nothing showing what God gave them. the articles of playboy were actually informative. FHM and Maxim articles are more sexualThan playboy. The James Bond series are originally from Playboy, so yeah they have good literature.
I also read magazine known as "pets part of the family" well I love animals and that magazine helped me with raising iguana.

@ capt,
sure capt, we believe you. you only get playboy, fhm, and maxim for their articles and not for their pictures. lol!
just kidding man.
i used to read those magazines as well. although all three package their magazine's as 'men's magazines', they cover a wide range of topics as well. plus, there are more racy stuff in the internet compared with all these three magazines combined. anyway, i stopped reading these magazines at home because of my daughter. i wouldn't want to her to see these type of magazines at such a young age. it just wouldn't be right.
i do encourage her to read though but it is limited to age appropriate magazines like disney magazines.
cheers and happy mylotting capt!!!

I subscribed to magazine about computers and games for a short time when I was young, but I stopped reading the magazines because they were much too technical for me. I was only interested in reviews of the games and the magazines were full of technical descriptions of computers that I didn't understand My brother and I used to play computer games for hours, but today I only play online games.
I used to flip through my brother's FHM magazines when I was in his apartment and had nothing else to read, but I don't know the Playbuy magazines except from the name of course. The pets magazine that you mentioned sounds interesting. I am a big animal lover and I have many pets.

The women in FHM might be clothed but their articles where very provocative, as in the birds and bees are not really mentioned in Playboy Magazine. The clothed girls in FHM have "what turns you on" on their article interviews while the bared girls of playboy have "whata re your hopes and dreams" on their articles...LOL

Of course,I love reading magazines. The magazines I prefer to read are published in my mother tongue,Hindi. All of them are either literary or political. These are the topics that I have been interested in.All magazines are expensive now.A few years back they were available at half of their current price. This is the only thing that prevents me from buying them every month.

In my country magazines are also expensive today. It is sad that they are so expensive, because there are several magazines that I would like to buy for instanse some of the magazines for women and some of the magazines about travelling. The second hand magazines are cheaper than the new magazines, but they are still relatively expensive so I don't buy them very often.

I use the library a lot. I love to read, but it would be too expensive if I had to buy all of the books that I want to read, so it is great that we can get free books at the library. I think that it is also possible to read a lot of different magazines at the library, I am going to check that next time when I visit the library.

I like "Woman's World". It comes out at the grocery stores once a week. It is fairly inexpensive and it touches base on just about every subject I'm interested in. They have makeup and clothes tips. They usually have some great recipes, information about new health solutions, some personal stories and they have jokes too. They always have a new diet listed although they don't work much for me because I'm too old. You've got to have a decent metabolism before any weight will come off... :(

"Woman's world" sounds like an interesting magazine. In my country we also have magazines for women, but they are quite expensive, and I don't buy them anymore. If I had more money I would buy them sometimes, because I enjoy reading the personal stories and some of the other articles. Even second hand magazines are quite expensive in my country, but I still like to visit the second hand shops sometimes. I didn't have much success with the diets from the magazines either, but I hope to lose weight in my own way instead.

I think that Mylot is a great place to meet people from all over the world. I have been here for 4 years and I keep coming back, because I have found friends from many different countries and I love to learn about their countries and cultures. I hope that you will enjoy your time here and find many friends from around the world It also reminds me of the time when I had snail mail penpals. I had a lot of penpals from other countries and we exchanged news and information about our countries. At that time there was no internet. Today it has become easier and faster to talk to people from other countries, and I think that is great.

Hello Porcospino,
You probably would like "Woman's World". I think they are probably only is the U.S. They do get kind of addictive to read! Well, at least you have the internet and should probably be able to find some interesting reads on-line.
P.S. I noticed you were from Denmark. Cool. I am new to MyLot and one of the things I like about it is 'meeting' people from all over the world. It's like having an old-fashioned pen pal. I like hearing about what goes on in other parts of the world.
Have a great day. :)

I really don't buy magazines, I let my older sister do that. I'm still a student so I don't have enough budget to buy them but I love reading magazines, but I really don't like gossip or celebrity magazines. My sister always buy fashion, health, travel and teen mags, I like them because I could always find a subject to draw from them as well as learn a lot from it. I also like reader's digest, national geographic and psychology, although I could only read them in my school library. ^^

I understand that. Magazines are quite expensive and as a student it is not easy to buy many magazines. It is great that you have the chance to read magazines at the school library. When I was a student the school library didn't have many magazines, but I think that the situation is different today. I like the same magazines as you. I have bought psychology magazines a few times. I liked them but they were quite expensive so I didn't buy them more than a few times. National geographic have some interesting articles, but I don't buy them that often either. Reader Digest is also interesting. I have found a second hand shop where I am able to buy back issues of Reader's Digest. The magazines are quite cheap in that shop and if I haven't read them I don't care that they aren't new.

I love reading magazines from time to time. I read them when I am in the doctors or hair dresser but I don't really buy them for myself. I had a free subscription to Glamour for a little while and I did enjoy reading some of the articles about women who have made a difference. I also had a magazine about writing and becoming a published writer.

I also read magazines in the waiting rooms or when I visit the hair dresser. I don't buy the magazines myself, because they are too expensive. The magazines about writing that you mentioned sound interesting. I write poems and short stories, but I didn't get anything published yet. I haven't written enough yet, but I would like to try to get some of my things published one day.

Yes, magazines are expensive, that is the main reason why I don't buy them. The library is a good place to read free magazines. I use the library a lot, but I usually just get the books that want to borrow and then I leave, I don't stay and read the magazines. Maybe I should do that sometimes. The bookstores in my country don't want you to touch the magazines if you don't intend to buy them, so we can't really look at the magazines there.

I find myself easily attracted to Showbiz magazines, but what really sparks my interest are those which feature wildlife, or real life stories like the ones you get from National Geographic magazines, or Reader's Digest.
Magazines about Home and Health are also very helpful. It's never too early for me to learn how to manage a household. I'm still single, you see. :)

I think that it is good idea to read the magazines at the library instead of buying them. Magazines are very expensive today and I don't buy magazines either, I can't afford that if I want to save up money for other things. I don't know the magazines that you have in Bulgaria, but they sound some of the magazines that we have in my country. We have four different magazines that write about the stars. Those magazines are quite popular, because many people want to read the news and the gossip about the stars. I don't buy those magazines myself, but I sometimes read them or flip thorugh them when I visit my mother-in-law, because she usually buys them.

Well, I used to buy a monthly teenage magazine when I was 13. At first my brother bought this magazine because he thought it was also for boys. But then it changes only a full girls magazine. So I continued buying them and even subscribed them. It still happened until last year or last two year, you know? But since I didn't have the time to read, I stopped the subscription.
Now I don't buy any magazines because I know I won't manage the time to read it. And plus, if I really have to buy one, I think I will buy the magazine for women now as I'm getting older and I don't know what this teenage magazine are talking about.

I used to buy the teenage magazines, too. There was one magazine from my own country I bought for years. It is called "We, the young people" I loved reading the articles about music and films and the articles about other teenagers. Today I don't buy that magazine anymore. I am 35 today and I have lost touch with the teenage world I don't really buy any magazines today, because I want to spend the money on other things, but if I had lots of money I would buy one of the magazines for women my age.

Dear Porcospino,
My favorite magazine has turned out to be fitness magazines both for the articles and for the photos which usually are demonstrations of exercises. I am a visual person so I also like looking at photos in the decorating, architecture and travel magazines. I have found that a weekly trip to the library can provide access to many of the magazines I want to look at for no cost. If I am looking for articles to read I access the magazine on the internet. I have not yet found a print media magazine that does not have an online version as well. Magazines are fun and up-to-date but they can be a huge money waster if you are on a budget.

The magazines I like reading the most are celebrity news and gossip and tv/music/movie magazines. I used to like reading Disney Adventures (when they used to feature my favorite celebrities and shows) and those teen magazines like Popstar! and J-14. I used to also read some of those True Story, True Confessions, and True Romance; they were my mom's but I used to like reading them and gazing at the photos. Another one I used to read was the Soaps in Depth, but since most of those soaps featured in there were cancelled (except for one) I no longer get it. Currently, I get a free subscription of Entertainment Weekly (from My Coke Rewards).

I also used to read true stories and true confessions. When I was a teenager there was a Danish magazine that contained lots of true stories or true romances and I often bought that magazine. I also read the German magazines that contained true confessions. I used to read a lot of magazines about my favourite celebrities like singers and actors. I saved my magazines and I had lots of them, but when I moved I didn't keep them. Today I don't read many magazines, but I sometimes buy some magazines for women in the second hand shops, because they are less expensive than the new magazines.

Speaking of the present, I must say, that no longer even read the newspaper in print, because I keep updated on events, in a manner telematics.
Speaking of the past, however, when this type of service was not available, I used to read magazines, ok I admit it!
I bought my favorite magazine every month called "The games machines", which was about computer games and consoles.
I have read this magazine for 10 good years.
Now maybe I can concentrate on reading a magazine, even when waiting, the interior of a medical office, or something similar.

I like to see how people mix and match their outfits and how they style their accessories. Also I tend to draw inspiration from these magazines to dress myself. I also love to travel so naturally, I'm drawn to traveling magazines. I love to see pictures of different place that I wish I could go. And I also learn a lot from these magazines.

Nowadays I just cannot get round to sitting down and going through a magazine, live alone a book. I almost feel like I need to take a vacation and go away just to catch up on my reading. I can manage one or two articles on the net and that’s it. Ladies magazines used to be my favorite; with the real life stories and recipes as my favorite columns.
