Spring has Sprung

I went out on our porch, sat and watched the goings on on our street for awhile. I heard the neighbors goats baaaing, saw a dove up on the electric wire cooing, my granddaughter was blowing bubbles, there were tulips in the new rock garden my son-in-law is making, the hastas are up, the mama kitty is about to burst with kittens, and her elder son was chasing a mouse under the porch. Down the road a bit a loud and obnoxious donkey brays and the grass is so green it hurts the eyes. I was barefoot and pleasantly warm without a jacket for a change. How is spring spinging in your neighborhood?

Here in MN it's perfect weather! For ducks and plant's! It's the perfect green house atmosphere to inspire the cold starting seeds. Newly planted grass seed starts best this time of year. Personally I won't be happy until we hit 70 degree day time temps consistently! For now I will be content with what we have because it's that beautiful prelude to possible paradise summer. It's not unusual to get those here. I need to ride my bike soon. Last year I lost 24 pounds and didn't gain it back. This year I want to do that again. Then I will be back to my weight I feel best at. The Cardinals are singing and less energy is being used to be comfortable in the house. We have big windows so when the sun shines I don't cover them up so we can use the sun to heat the house. I pick the rainy days to wash clothes and the walls inside. The more I get done right now the less I have to do during the summer!

My daughter lives in the Minneapolis area. I will be visiting late May or early June. New grandbaby on the way. I noticed the beautiful lilacs each time I have come to visit. She has mallard ducks that regard her yard as a feeding station each year and they watch the life cycle of eggs and babies. I have a bike, got on it one time last year and fell. You encourage me to do more this year. I love spring. Summer will be quite hot, but right now things are great.

I've been to MN, and I agree, it's beautiful. My sister and her husband vacation there each year on one of the northern lakes, I used to go with in August and enjoy the cool fall weather. I haven't been on a bike in many years. Don't know if I still could. lol We have a bunch of blue jays, only a few cardinals. I've been watching a pair of doves they're building their nest across the street. I love spring!

I bought this bike 2 years ago. I looked ridiculous at first. I had heard that one of the ways to keep your brain going strong was to bike ride. The older we get the less balance we have. You test your balance by closing your eyes while standing on one foot. I could do this for a fraction of a second. They said if you can do it for one minute you were doing good. Today I can do it for about one minute. No wonder I had a problem with my bike! I fell twice at first (no injury). If you were up in the Boundary Waters area you have seen some of the best scenery Minnesota has to offer! Would you believe we have eagles in a residential area of Minneapolis? This is what happens when DDT becomes illegal to sell or use! It made the shells of the eggs very soft and breakable! But our garden hose froze last night!

Very descriptive writing there. Here spring means the kids outside playing and hollering in the new found warmth of the season. Of course as you mentioned plants are creeping up into bloom. I also hear not only birds but the sound of motorcycles on the highway. Sometimes we smell smoke from neighbors burning yard debris that was not broken down from winter. I agree it's great to go outside with out a jacket even better to put your winter things away.

Oh, I forgot about the sound of a Harley rumbling down the road. I have been seeing more of them. Good memories from when I lived in Iowa. We had a softtail and I loved riding. Thanks for the memory! And oh the smell of burgers on the grill. Your descriptions are pretty awesome too!

we had a week back in March that was really warm and since then, the temperatures have been up and down but cool enough to keep the flowers open that have already come out, flowers like daffs and crocuses and of course, the robins have come back to Canada as well so that is a definite site of spring!

Are you in southern part or northern part of Canada? I've seen robins all through the winter, which was very mild this year. We live in the southern part of Missouri.

The weather is mostly steady, with cool nights and warmer days. But still the transition of Spring has really just come rather fluid and night around these parts. The fact that winter was really not bad and there were more days where it was a bit warmer than your average winter, it was really something that was a rather comfortable thing. I just enjoy rather sitting outside in the spring time and just looking around. Seeing the times of rebirth, the times of glory and just a time of new life. I hope that the spring weather continues to be great. But just seeing pretty much everything coming back to life, just the birds singing, the flowers growing, and just everything that makes great.

As long as we don't have any severe weather, I'm fine. The winter was so mild here too. Now we have tons of ticks and chiggers!!! Not so good.

Just imagining what you have written made me feel nice and warm. We don't have spring here in our country though. It's summer season and yet it rains most of the time which is not good for me. I'm someone who loves the outdoors, doing outdoor activities, taking pictures of beautiful things around me, etc. It's nice to know that you seem to be enjoying the hassle and buzzles of spring!

Hi Debra, Spring is a pleasant season as always. But i feel its related to our mood and mental condition and happiness. If we are happy then its always spring season for us :-)

How true that is; is that what they mean when they say you have 'spring' in your step?

We had "almost summer" last week for a while. Then it got chilly and damp and cloudy. It is a spring mix. While at my brother's house we watched a mamma kitty across the street move her babies. My brother has roses in bloom. We have had lilacs, daffodils, and tulips and honey suckle vine. All the fruit trees are setting on fruit already. It is early, so I hope the weather holds.

Yes, dogwoods, redbuds and all the bushes have bloomed out already,I'm used to lilacs in mid april and they're done already. It's been down in the 50s at night here, one night it got in the high 40s. My son has put out tomatoes and peppers already. I warned him it may still freeze, he just shrugged and said he'd plant again if it did, he was really ready for a garden. lol

The ice cream trucks came out on March 22, a bit early, but it was a nice day. Now it's turned cold again. The weather here is very changeable! Today it looks warm and sunny and breezy outside but the temp is only 37°. We had a few days in the 70s but for the most part it's chilly and breezy. We have frosts up till May here in Ohio so no one who really know anything plants anything till then. It's a beautiful spring here. I love the color of new leaves, their bright green when they contrast with slate-gray storm skies. So many beautiful colors and you never know what the weather will be. My dogs love it because they can lay outside in the sun most days and not shiver.

I've lived in NW Iowa and the Chicago area, I understand about frost that late. We do get some chilly weather late in the spring, but for the most part, winter is over by now.

Please do enjoy the season while it lasts. We have a brief two months spring here in eastern part of India, starting in February and ending by March. It was cool and like a heaven sent air conditioning, lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers and all the good feelings that come with. Now the temperatures are rising steadily, and the condensates are coming down as rain once a couple of days. It is already 86 deg F, and we are really dreading May-July months, when the temperatures will go up to 116 deg F, if we are lucky to have a moderate summer. I wish spring would last at least a couple of more months than usual.

Yes, I plan on enjoying it. We too, get pretty hot in the summer. 110 is not unheard of. Lots of humidity too. Our highest temp this year so far has been about the same as yours, in the mid 80s. We haven't had much rain as we usually do, one April we had terrible floods, about two, three years ago. We couldn't get to town the roads were so flooded.
