Hi myLotters, what is your view about sleeping after eating? Personally I think this is not a good nor healthy practice. I never be able to sleep if I just had meal, doesn't matter how sleepy I am, or how tiring I am. I will feel that there's something in my stomach that making me feel uncomrtable if I lay down to bed. I'm not sure why but I guess it has something to do with the digestive system in the body. Is this true?

Yes..i think sleeping after eating is bad for health..we should eat a little bit early so that digestion may take place..we should also eat in fewer quantities1!

I don't think that you should go to sleep straight after eating because your body needs the time to be able to digest the food that you've eaten. You should wait at least two hours before you go to sleep, and maybe try to go on a short walk or something like that to use up some of the energy that you've consumed through your food. I find that a short walk before bed time helps me to sleep a lot better and therefore I feel as though I have a lot more energy the next day than I would have done if I hadn't exercised the day before.

It does make sense about your sleepy after eating, because at that time blood will concentrate in your stomach, your brain receives less blood than normal, that's why you will feel so sleepy, especially when you are too full. If you can, taking a short nap doesn't harm your health at all.
I am a person who often takes a short nap after eating meals, and I feel very good when wake up after that.

yep eating then going to sleep straight away has the same effect on me, some people can eat a meal then fall asleep no problem. I don't know if it is bad for you, but I do know that you can put weight on by doing this. I never eat anything heavy after 6pm as I don't want to grow fat...lol not only that It doesn't make me feel too good.
We are not burning off the calories that we just ate, so fat is then being stored, and at night we sleep 6-8hours maybe more for others, after 4 hours out stomachs start to tell us we need something to eat, if it doesn't get something we start to store fat in our bodies, I call it red alert mode...lol the bodies thinking we are going to starve. I remember this from school. Correct me if I am wrong though :0) This is why we never skip meals, but its important when we do eat meals.

it is really not good habit for us if we do that.Sleeping after eating can lead to indigestion. All foods you eat will not really digest fast because when we are sleeping our stomach is digesting but its too slow.So we need to take out that habit for us to become healthy

I do this alot, I have to say, in fact it's one of the reasons why I tend to be reluctant to eat during the day: as soon as I do, I feel like lying down and snatching a nap. Consequently, I tend to snack, rather than eat heavily. Food can make a person sleepy, although I'd say the younger and fitter and stronger a person is, the less this will be a problem; I guess it's a question of metabolic rate. I don't think napping after food is at all unhealthy: after all, several countries have a tradition of this, called the Siesta, practised in the early afternoon after lunch. The body can get used to it, and find it refreshing. I guess consequently it means you stay up later. So, for a lot of people in hot climates, sleeping after food is highly desirable. As I say, I do it a lot, but I also have to admit I don't like doing it...I don't like lying down during the day...I like to keep going.

Hi. I also thinnk sleeping after eating is healthy. If people sleep just after eating , they will have a bad sleep with their stomachs full. But i ask my son to eat after he goes back home at 10:30 am. Because he is busy preparing for the state exam which is very important for high school students in our country.

It is really not good or healthy that you are going to sleep after eating. As much as possible we should at least have to walk around while we are still full.It is normal as a human being that we feel sleepy when we are full because of our digestive is working and our brain slows down.

Dear Lucas
Don't be too concerned. Many of us like you do feel sleepy after a heavy meal. It's because the blood is being pumped too much to the stomach. More blood is required and at the same time the blood does not go to the brain. Hence, we become sleepy. Taking a short walk and help with your digestion. I do that myself and found it very effective. Hope that this can be of some help to you. OK? Thanks. GBU. Bro. Joe

If you are sleepy right after eating , either usually most of the blood goes in the stomach to digest what you ate, and if you lay down after a meal wont hurt you it just help to better digest, I would say it wouldn't be good if right after a meal you go for a jog.

Its not that exact as you think buddy. But the think is that when you eat up you do take some calories. These constitute energy . When you sleep these get settled in your body and are unused. But if you burn some of them then it wil be good for health. As for as your posy I think you take in too much food. That what might be troubling you.

i heard it is not good for the digestive system. as for me, i dont sleep right away after eating. i spend some minutes after eating something before going to bed. digestion is at its slowest during sleeping.

I had this bad habit sometimes. With the kind of job I have wherein sitting occupies my day and at the same time draining my brain make me tiresome after office works. Thus if I had late dinner at night it didn't stop me from sleeping after. But I always try not to do it ...

It is true that if you eat right before you go to sleep that the food is not going to digest very well and will literally sit in your stomach all night. Have you ever wondered why once you get up in the morning you need to go to the bathroom minutes after getting up? Sitting and standing back up, as well as eating breakfast, helps things get moving again. That it is so important for hospital beds to raise up to a sitting position and have patients walk around because their digestive systems can slow if they are lying down all day.
