I've heard that counselling sessions can take a toll on one's pockets. How true is it? Also, is it really worth it?

Counselling sessions can be quite expensive and often times hard to find a Good counselor for you as well. I know many times it might have to take some time to search and ask around depending on what type of counseling you are looking for, and often times Insurance benefits usually limit the amount of times you can go as well. But personally I know there are good counselors out there to contact and work with just about any situation there is. Some might even concentrate or focus on certain issues as well. Just ask around and see what works Best for you, and check with your Health care plan to make sure this might help as well. But if you attend a church sometimes Pastors, etc. make good sounding blocks who can be Good counselors as well.

Both replies are great. KrauseHome is very right in saying it may take some work to find a counselor that you feel good about. Not all counselors are going to compatible with the way you think. thewonderboy offers up a good suggestion. If in school you may have access to some free counseling. My wife's employer has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)that gives us access to some free counseling sessions as well. I have found that counselors and other mental health professionals that do not offer a sliding fee scale or discounted services are less compatible with me. Those that do offer sliding scale fees for low income people are often into their work for more than just income. Those offering lower cost services feel as if they have more heart or caring while those not offering discounted fees for low income seem or feel as if they are more clinical and have less heart. This is of course a generalization and please see it as such but I hope it helps you. Most larger communities have health and mental health professionals that will offer sliding scale fees or low income rates. Ask at your hospital, food bank or other services offered for low income for a list of doctors, counselors and other professionals that help with income challenged patients. Is it worth it? ABSOLUTELY! If there is something going on in your life that makes you ask the questions you asked then it seems there is a need.
