I never thought I would ever have a chance to visit a foreign country. I always thought of traveling and was thrilled when I had a chance to visit South Korea. It was an experience I will never forget. I could not believe it. I was going to another country. Has anyone visited South Korea?

I loved to walk downtown among the people. There was a place my son and I loved to go all of the time. It was the "Lotte Marta" . It is a mall, but quite different than the malls we have here in the U.S. As we walked up to the mall, I looked to the sky. There had to have been over five floors to shop. To the side, there was a parking garage which was accessible by elevators on each floor. I really mean this when I say this mall seemed to have everything. There were many vendors, mini stores ( almost like a flea mart) , restaurants and a large department store that sat right on top. Talk about shopping !!

The best thing also, you'd probably get very good bargains shopping there... I remember going to a similar place in Jakarta, and the big department store (similar to Target in the States) inside the mall is called "Lotte Mart". I wonder if it's related at all to the ones in Korea...

I am very lucky because as a child I dreamed about traveling to other countries and this dream of mine came true. I live in the United Kingdom so there first few countries I visited were European. I went to France as a child and into my adult years, Greece when I was fourteen, the Netherlands at age seventeen and around Europe by train at age eighteen. I have been to a few countries in Asia like Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. I haven't yet been to South Korea but I hope to in the future.

I think you would enjoy visiting S. Korea, it has lots of things to see. I have not had a chance to visit any other country, but plan to visit Spain. I bet you had fun visiting all those countries. Do you live in the U.K. ?

new1405, I have lived in South Korea twice. My son was born there. I have lots of fond memories of South Korea and its people. If I return overseas, I plan to visit South Korea again. I have considered teaching english to Korean students again; I had wonderful students when I first lived there in the 80's. I love the sunrises there, they are some of the most beautiful that I've ever seen with the soft pastel hues draped by the soft morning mist and gentle rays of golden sunshine. I can almost see, with my minds eye, farmers putting in their rice crops by hand, one seedling at a time. Being in Seoul was almost like living in New York City; it has large buildings and subways and many people moving about on foot, bicycles, buses and taxis. The city wakes ever so gradually until it is abuzz with life, like bees in and around a hive. Its countryside is breath-takingly beautiful; its mountains seem to roll gently against the horizon for as far as the eye can see. South Korea is a lovely place, and it was the first country where I experience four destinct seasons with each one being more glorious than the last. You are so right, new1405, South Korea is a very beautiful place, one of the most beautiful countries on earth. I hope I can revisit there someday.

It sounds like not too much has changed since you last visited. It is still beautiful, especially by the water. I went to S. Korea in 2005. I didn't stay long, only about 1 year and a half. My husband was in the Navy and I had the "once in a lifetime chance" to go overseas. Our second son was born in Seoul. Seoul has to be the largest city I have ever been in. It is busy and crazy there. It seemed like people going to and fro, never stopping. Speaking to the Koreans was always interesting. They are so nice and welcoming. If I had a chance, I thought it would be fun to visit S.K. again. I just have to adjust to the time.

I was born & raised in South Korea... Well, till I was 14... As a child, I haven't really been to a lot of different places in Korea but places I've been were great... I had a chance to go back to Korea for my brother's wedding & it has changed tremendously... I decided to visit my old neighborhood & I didn't even recognize half the places... I've been living in U.S for close to 30 years now... I'd love to go visit again...
