I heard a rumor that laughing can help tone tummy muscles. I tried to look it up online but really only brought up links to other people asking the same question as me. Does laughing help tone the stomach's muscles? Has anyone ever heard this? Is it true. Does anyone have information on it. Oh wouldn't it be nice to just watch comedies all the time an lose weight in the waist if only a dream it would be a good one

If laughing helps to tone tummy muscles I should have very firm ones. I have been known to have a good and lasting guffah. Crunches is what you need. Many, many crunches. There are several different kinds and all those help with a different area. So much fun. I recall the sore muscles too. There were alot of those.

I'm sure that laughing WORKS the stomach muscles, but I think one would have to do an awful lot of laughing to get any TONING benefits.
Yes, that is a nice dream that laughing can tone us up instead of all that exercise, but alas, I think we have to stick with the tried and true ways. 500 situps, 500 crunches, 30 minutes of TaeBo...hey, no pain, no gain ; ) Or in this case, no TONE.

Oh my to have the time to do all that everyday! I fit in sit ups where I can during the day.. I also like to run up and down the stairs a few extra times a day when I can fit it in. I wish laughing worked cause that would be so much more fun!

There is no doubt a good belly-laugh is good for the stomach muscles, but what is much better is exercise. One that I like is done by lying on the floor, flat on your back and lifting your legs. Do this every day working up to 15 or 20 lifts and your stomach will be so strong and tight you will be very proud!

SO you lift your bum up off the floor or your legs up off the floor. I actually do both but I am a far cry from being thin enough to have toned abs.

I know that when I laugh a lot, I can feel the stomach muscles contract. But I'm pretty sure one would have to laugh A LOT to see any real results.
Side note, I've had bronchitis for over a week now. I cough really hard and often. My stomach muscles are VERY sore every day from the coughing. But I don't see any change. No tight abs or weight loss. I know something is happening cuz it hurts but I think working out would give me better results! When I'm better that is!

It seems logical. I found this site, they speak about a "laughter therapy" which is good also for your skin tone:

And I believe that laughing has many useful effects on our health.

If there's still no site that can prove that, in my opinion, it is true. That's because every time I laugh hard, I always feel a tightening feeling around my tummy, it feels like I just did 50 sit ups straight, that kind of feeling. So I think it's true.

I don't know how true this is but, I DO know that I've laughed so hard in the past that my stomach hurt SO bad... Like, it wasn't even easy to breath afterwards because my stomach hurt so hard. I don't know if it tones any muscles in the same sense that crunches do, BUT, I do know that laughing for 1 hour equals a 30 minute workout at the gym... So, essentially, you COULD lose weight just by watching comedies all day! ;-)

Like you, I haven't come across a definitive article or study about the benefits of laughing to tummy muscles. I suppose laughing affects our whole well-being. For one, laughing and smiling really affects our state of mind. I can feel my tummy contracting when I'm laughing so I guess it can work out the muscles around our belly. But I doubt laughing alone can give us our dream body weight... Let's just say, to get our desired weight, we need to eat right, exercise regularly, and keep good company to keep us smiling and laughing!

I actually think I have read where laughing is good for the muscles in the abdomen area, but I wouldn't necessarily count on just laughing to give you a toned stomach. It's been said for many years that 'laughter is good medicine' and I do think most of us feel better after having a good laugh. So I would certainly encourage anyone to view laughter as a good and healthful thing. I know there's been difficult periods in my life and I deliberately read some funny stories and jokes to try and bring my mood up if even for a few minutes. Life is difficult enough, sometimes you have to lighten up your mood. We can't carry our burdens around 24/7, right?

Laughing causes the tummy muscles to contract and relax as air is pushed from the lung and to the outside. This contraction and relaxation of the stomach muscles usually wares the muscles which makes one uncomfortable to continue laughing at some point. It actually cannot get to the point where the stomach muscles will be toned as you say since you cannot laugh for long.

Really? If that's true, then that may be the reason why I feel like my tummy muscles tightening up whenever I laugh especially when I laugh hard. And old people says we get thinner whenever we laugh too hard.
