9/11 Support Group Fraud

A few days ago, I watched an episode of Dr. Phil that literally made me want to throw up. The show is about a woman using the name Tonya Head. Her real name is Alicia, and she claimed to be a survivor of the 9/11 attacks in New York. I missed some of the details, but she claimed to be in one of the towers when the plane hit it. She claimed to have escaped with a nearly severed arm, and she claimed to have been hospitalized until after Thanksgiving of that year. She was the president of a 9/11 survivors support network. She also claimed that her husband was killed when the other tower collapsed. Now, here is the part that made me want to puke. The reality is that this woman was actually in Spain on 9/11/2001. She was not even in AMERICA when the attacks happened, let alone in the World Trade Center when it was attacked. The husband she claimed to have lost in the other tower WAS a real man who died (although I am unsure whether he died in the attacks or not), but she was not married to him. She made up the whole story, including the complete story of a wedding in Hawaii. Her lies were discovered as a film-maker was in the process of making a documentary about her story. He was focusing on how much of an inspiration she was to other survivors, and was featuring her support group as well. There is a book about her real story also. The name of the book is, “The Woman Who Wasn’t There”. I am going to get this book and read it. As for this woman...She should be taken out in the woods and should be stoned. This woman is a fat, pathetic, low-life piece of trash who tried to make up for the fact that she didn’t have a life by feeding off the pain and suffering of other people. How can someone be this pathetic? I cannot imagine the trauma the survivors of the 9/11 attacks have to deal with on a daily basis, even now, over ten years later. Anyone who was not in those buildings (the Pentagon included) can never truly sympathize with the people who were actually there. This woman made a mockery of the physical and mental pain these people went through on that day, and the painful memories they will have to endure for the rest of their lives. Why would someone want to do something like this? Was it for some sort of financial gain? Did she do it to fill some sort of void in her life? In some twisted way, did she feel as if she was helping the survivors who joined her group? These are questions we will likely never know the answers to, because this woman now lives in Barcelona, Spain; and of course, she doesn’t have the guts to be interviewed and answer for what she did. This woman is the scum of the earth. She deceived people who confided not only their pains and hardships, but their most personal feelings to her. One of the guests on the show said that this woman became her best friend, so not only did this person survive the attacks and have to deal with the trauma it left in her life, she also lost her best friend when the truth about this fraud came out. These survivors thought this woman truly knew what they were going through, when in reality, she wasn’t even in the COUNTRY on 9/11. I can only hope this woman gets what she deserves. God Bless the survivors of 9/11. God Bless the families of those who died, and God Bless the men and women of our military.
