Well last time i made a nice discussion about books and reading it i got numerous comments about it and what stuck in my mind is that, interest in the book is important if it is not maintained in the beginning till the end then most probably you or most people will stop at the beginning and never read back, so are you the kinda that interest in the beginning if none you throw or not read the book
at all or finish it long term even if the book wasn't that great at all.

I have this thing about starting a book and not finishing books, I just have to finish every book I start even when I'm not interested or hate the book. Sometimes it takes me awhile, but I usually finish everything I start. The last time I put down a book and didn't finish it was several years ago, and even then I still tell myself I'll give it another shot one day!
Some books get better, some don't. It's a toss-up but I give most books until the very last page to impress me.

Well I wasn't born with it, it took practice! I think finishing books that didn't interest me helped me develope more patience. Long process though.

sometimes i persevere even when the first few chapters of a book arent very interesting but most times, i give up outright! for me, a book has to hook me right at the beginning and refuse to let me go until 'The End' :)

Hi there nethraram,
That is right my friend, i mean I have the same exact issues and it is just annoying that you get a book that seemed interesting and at the beginning it is not so you just put it down and not look in further because you bummed at the start, sad to say some great books start that way.

I want to give the book a chance and some books get better after a while, so I usually read a couple of chapters before I decide if I want to finish the book or not. If I have read a couple of chapters and I still don't like the book I give up and decide to return the book to the library without reading the rest of it. Some books sounds very interesting when I read the summary, but when I read them I discover that I don't really like them. That happens quite often. My local library has a website and I use that site when I pick out books. Some time ago I found a book a slave girl who was separated from her mother. I was interested in reading the story about her life, but when I got the book I was quite disappointed in the story, and I didn't finish the book.

no i will not finish it if it is boring or uninteresting.. i even read the back of all books first and i will flip thur and if i dont like what i read there or on the back then i wont even start that book as im fickle and very hard to please on books i dont read often but love it when i find a great book and enjoy it way more but right now i dont have time to read any books..

I'm that kind of a silly person who reads every single book they start... just to know the ending and how it got there from the beginning. There were some books I was so angry at (one in particular was... arrrrggghhh :D), but I keep on reading them... because maybe something's good gonna happen.

Hey there doroffee,
Well did something good happened in the end? I am not as patient as you maybe 3- 4 pages of uninteresting going on in the book then i tuck it away i hope i was more patient so that i can just get to the good stuff when it does happen.

There have been so many times when a book was just not interesting to me and I could not bring myself to finish the book. Whenever that happens I end up taking it to half priced books and resell it or give it to a friend who might enjoy it. There was once or twice that I pushed through a book and ended up liking it, but nine times out of ten if it doesn't interest me in the first fwe paragraphs I don't even buy it anymore.

Every time before I read a new book, I'll do a little research first on that book. I will search for reviews and comments online first about it and if it got raves or just rants about it. So when I decided I would like to read this book because of intriguing reviews and rates, I will just read it. When I get to 10% and I get bored with the book, I will still continue reading it. When I get 50% of the book and it's still very boring for me, that's when I will stop reading it. I believe that boring parts are just always in the beginning of the book and usually every time I read a book which I thought at first was boring, it usually gets exciting when it gets to the second half of it but when I get there and it's still boring, I will not finish it anymore.

Nope, I cannot force myself to finish reading a book if it doesn't strike my fancy or catch my attention. I just can't. I have a very low tolerance for poorly written or just plain boring books. Also romance novels. Yuck. lol. I will give up on a book less than a chapter into it if i feel like it's not something that catches my interest.

it depends.. I first read the summary at the back and if that is a good summary then i read the book until i finish chapters and if it still not interesting at all, i just look for another one. WHy waste my time, when i can look for more interesting ones.
