Let's say you're in your 50's and you feel that your income is not enough to sustain you. An opportunity presents itself but it needs a special skill, like flying a plane or dancing hip-hop. Would you be willing to learn or study the skills required just to earn bigger? Please share your thoughts.

I've done that so many times to upgrade my skills. I'm a dance teacher but since in any skills or profession there are a lot of things new things that will come, and if we did not learn those new things we will be lost and left behind. So I upgraded my self I have to pay and learn the new dances and how to teach them technically. I have some other skills that I used to learn a living I studied it for almost a month when I'm in the big city.

Yes I would. I'm actually having some big ideas online and I need some knowledge about web dessign, HTML, etc, which I'm planning to spend a little time daily learning online so I can work my plan out in the future and make a much larger income.

I am in my forties. If its flying a plane, I will pass but if its something I think I can handle, like learning how to increase traffic to make money and earn bigger, I will.
If its something that will be useful and good (not like what a bad hacker will do) I think it is very worthwhile. I think as we get older we need to learn to keep those noodles churning.
I am told that the brain cells do shrink as we age though but I think no matter what learning something useful is good for the brain.

It depends what it is. If it requires education that will take quite a bit of time than I may pass. If the skills require minimum time than I'll surely jump on the band wagon. I feel that learning new skills is beneficial but time is precious. If you feel that learning the new skills is worth it than go for it. You may just earn more so that you can live more comfortable.

Why not! :) I would love to learn a new skill and get paid at the same time. As long as it won't over strain my soon-to-be fragile body, I'm up for it. And since I'm a kind of person who is open to new ideas and learnings, I would be glad to accept it even at old age ^^. Are you willing to accept the challenge yourself?

Hi cutie!
I think until and unless some calamity is going to fall on me and am in dire straits and have no option but to learn the new skill so that I could survive, I will learn the new skills.
But if I have options to survive, I may not learn it for the sake of earning. I may learn it as a hobby.

In the 50s yes but now, no.
The life in the 50s is way better than now. You don't need to think much. You just need to work hard and you can have the live you dream of in your reach. But now, lol, I just have to keep on what I'm doing and just be smart and soon I can become financially free.
And besides, instead of earning bigger, why not have the goal of becoming financially free fro yourself? At least that's my real goal in life.

Woah, I really have to understand the topic first. I thought you mean the 50s instead of being 50 years old. lolz
No, I don't think I'll be learning anything just to get my income bigger. I mean, why would I wait for my 50s when I can make myself some real money while still young? Anyways, I think if you just work smartly, you can increase your income without having to work harder than ever before. And that when you reach the 50s, you're already 25 years retired. And even if I'm already in the 50s all, I think, I would ever need to increase my income is to make my brain work. It's my asset, anyway. Have a nice day and Happy MyLotting!

Yes I would because we never know how long we will live. My grandmother is eighty and requires no help. She preaches on eating your veggies though. I am thirty five, and I am thinking of going back to school to become an attorney. I am afraid, but I cannot let that stop me anymore. I would tell anyone go for it.

Yes I will. I think there is nothing wrong in learning new skills to be able to get a job if you badly needed it as long as your physical abilities does not impede you. Learning is a continuing process and you will always learn as long as you are alive.
