Extreme couponing. I don't see how they do it.

Get a hundred dollars worth of groceries and toiletries for like $3 to $10. I'd have to buy lots of newspapers or use our very expensive ink on our printer to get coupons. Our stores have cut down on double coupons and we don't have triple coupons any more either. Lots of coupons say, "Do NOT double," on them. So it seems like we're limited when it comes to that. So what is the least you have spent thanks to coupons? I had a triple coupon once and paid nothing for one item and another time I paid 10 cents. But that's rare for me.

i am a couponer but not that extreme. let me try to explain for the show the stores change there policy and let the people use as many coupons as they want they change all the rules. #2 they are letting the customer use coupons for stuff they are not buying or on the wrong size product, also they posted a thing where a few people are useing fake coupons which is agenst the law , dont get me wrong getting $100 for only $3 is possible i have done it but the show is not very real at all infact staged you have to look deeper into it . even if some coupons say dont double some stores still do , there are a bunch of blogs on this

I suspected that some of this might be phoney. AFter all, you can't believe everything you see on tv.

Exactly, here there are so many limits, I'd never be able to do it like they show. I'm glad that people can't clear the shelves tho, I'd like stuff when I go shopping to be there. We have reasonable limits like: "Limit 3 or limit 6" So one person doesn't buy everything and no one else can buy anything.

it can be done to a point but not the way they do it , i mean if they are going to show something like that they should do it the real way with the same rules as everyone else show everyday couponers doing it not couponers that have to have stores change rules to make it work it makes people beilieve that its ok to clear shelves and get 100's of things for free yes you can get things for free i do all the time but come on they make it so hard for people that need to use coupons to help feed their family do that because the stores are limiting the amount of coupons that can be used .

I like to get coupons from the internet, but you're right when you say that they use a lot of ink and that might mean that they cost you a fair amount of money in the long term. In my country, the council runs internet cafes which are free to use, and you are able to print things off from there. I will do this once each week, and can save anything from £10 to £100 on various things that I might choose to buy during the course of that week. Coupons are an excellent way to save money and everyone should consider using them for themselves.

Where I live, some stores have a sign that they don't accept printed internet coupons. Our ink is $20 to $40 a cartridge. Black is cheapest, but often the coupons aren't all black. Not sure how many coupons I could get from one cartridge. We don't have coupons for meat, maybe some deli stuff that is full of nitrates and salt that I can't have. If it works for both of you, great. For me, I'll stick with the newspaper ones.

i save a lot more than what i spend on ink infact my food budget is $300.00 a month and i get meat and everything and stay under that most of the time so for me to print them is worth it and i have a family of 6

I am unable to contribute to this discussion because in my country ( Nigeria ) we do not have this coupons stuff you are talking about. However, if this system help you save a lot of money then you are simply lucky. However, could you please explain to me like a school teacher what the coupon issue is all about. I want to know so that I could encourage the development of such stuff in Nigeria. Have a blessed day!

I know something about coupons , those can give you some discount on a product that you may buy. The question is how much you paid for the coupon : My mom bought me coupons to use in stores like supermarket and coupon for a Castro store (Castro is a company that makes clothes like shirts and jeans...). The thing is , the coupon is like money but some deals require you to buy with cash :For example , if there is a deal that requires you to buy goods and spend up to 200 shekels (shekel is an israeli money unit , about 1/3 to 1/4 of the dollar) , some products become half price after that. That sounds like a nice deal but if you used coupons for the 200 shekels , the deal is not valid. You have to pay with money. Using coupons from the newspaper can be good because you didn't pay much for them , but make sure there are no any products that are also cheap even without coupons. Btw , I just read about coupons and in the wikipedia , it sounds like an extreme sport , lol. There is even a tv series about extreme couponing. It is good to promote the awareness of how to save money and still get the products.

I used to use a lot coupons but not so much anymore but I do find they can save you money if you buy a lot of a certain product. Extreme coupon people do that they buy a lot to save a lot, I guess.

Maybe, we just have so many restrictions here that I can't see it working. Many of our coupons say do not double and some of our stores just won't double. Yes, I've done well with coupons on occasion, but not very often.

I don't use a lot of coupons when shopping, I just buy whatever is on sale in the store and doesn't require the use of a coupon. Also, here we can't do double or triple on coupons here in canada so it is not really comparable to the states where people can do real extreme couponing. Howver, things might have changed wiht time over there too...

Not everywhere in the states, we have lots of rules against some aspects of extreme couponing in NY where I am. But we can use a coupon and the item is on sale. So once in a while, I have gotten a dollar item for 10 cents or something, but nothing like the extreme stuff I see on tv.

Where I live there are only a few couponing possibilities, and I always have the feeling that I have coupons only for things I don't need at all.

Yes, I know the feeling. Some weeks it's all stuff I don't care if I ever buy. Some of it is stuff that has lots of food coloring or garbage in it, etc. Thanks and takae care.

They didn't used to be like that. Back in the day they were great. Now...the extremers have ruined it for the rest of us.

Interesting. How have the extremers ruined it for the rest of us?

I dont understand how extreme couponers do it unless it only in America. I have seen the programme called 'Extreme Couponing', it is really good to watch but they spend their whole time organising and collecting coupons, planning their shopping list and finally at the checkout hoping it works. Sometimes in the programme it turns out the supermarkets actually owe them I dont really use coupons as I tend to forget I have them and they go past their use by date or its for products I dont use or cant afford

A lot of the coupons we get are for things we don't use, too. Here, and I am in America, but there are 50 states and lots of differences amoung them, there are limits on lots of couponing, so I'm not sure how we could even do it here. If a person is out of work and has no possibility of getting work, the extreme couponing would be there job because it certainly does look like one. But I don't think I could keep it up if I had a job. You've made similar observations to me. All their time and hoping it works out. Thanks and take care.

I work for a grocery store. We have a lot of rules that keep customers from being able to really extreme coupon. It is three per like item. So that means if you get three bags of bugels you have to have a coupon for each and you can't have a fourth bag and coupon. We double up to 99 cents every day, and we have triples and super double weeks. Those are crazy weeks. Still people are able to save a lot at my store. However, my store isn't the most affordable one out there, I'm not saying they have expensive stuff, but they aren't cheap either. So when you go to my store, on average you may save as much as if you had gone to a cheaper store, but if you live close by it's pretty much the same. Most of the customers either live close by or really far away, yeah I know odd.

Same here, the stores have lots of rules that would prevent extreme couponing to work like I see on tv. Once in a great while, we can get a good deal, but not very many. Not entire carts full. The triple weeks must be wild. I don't envy you.

I wonder if that show is kind of dramatized you know? I've watched one or two episodes and it seems to me they go to big department stores. I'm not sure if coupons are even allowed in those types of stores, but I guess so. Either way those couponers also seem to waste money by getting things that they'll never use.

We have one store that has a big sign, "No computer print out coupons, only our coupons from newpaper ciruclars." I wonder about those shows, too. Is it real? Part of probably why I made this discussion. I liked one couple who do it once a month and give the stuff away to a different charity each month. They can't afford to donate to a charity without the extreme couponing. That would be cool for animal shelters if they could get a hundred dollars worth of stuff for hardly any money. They were doing it for mostly food shelves. I did see one family with like a hundred rolls of papertowels. Mice could have a great time with that. With all the stuff they had in the house, they'd never know they were overrun by mice until it wa too late.

When we went to Walmart for groceries this last 3rd of the month there was a lady infront of us using a bunch of coupons. She was buying toilet paper and something else. She bought over $300 dollars worth for $70 some dollars. There is a showing on cable about super couponers. They have their downstairs basement jam packed with food. One woman supplied the food for a big shindig at her church all with food she had gotten couponing. We have a store here that puts double coupons in the paper and Walmart takes them.

300 for 70 is quite the savings. I like the ones that do it for charity or their church in this case. The ones that hord and their house becames dangerous, I worry about. I saw one couple who would do it once a month for a different charity each month. They paid like $10 and supplied a lot of food for the charity.

I thought so. These ladies had their basements all set up with shelves and such. Nice and neat. Charity giving would be a good thing.
