If you could buy a lot of one category of craft item what would it be?

In my case, weaving fibers. I look at the sari silks, angora rabbit fur, velvet remnants, merino wool, even the recycled t-shirt yarns, just so many beautiful and wonderful things out there to try to weave. The textures, the colors, the way each one works differently in a weaving.
So what would your one category of something you wish you could buy a lot of be? Why?

I'm starting to love this Do-it-yourself Glass Stickers. I find that I can make very cool designs with it. I have always been fascinated with Stained Glass, and glass stickers tend to bring out a kindergarten version of it although I know with practice and precision, I can make something out of it that's more professional-looking.
I am looking forward to buying more of it.

This craft I do not know. I have a friend who does a modified version of leaded glass with glass that has something else instead of liquid led.
So anyway, this sounds interesting. How could someone learn more about this hobbie?
I find that starting out with children's versions of things is really a great way to go.
1. Cheaper, so you don't invest too much and then later find out you don't want to do it and have all this expensive stuff.
2. You can practice with various skills from probably lots of books or with lots of materials including make-shift, recycled, and so on.
3. After you have lots of materials and experience, you can go onto things that cost more and even more advanced skills.
I really thing it's great to start out that way. Like I do weaving on popcycle sticks and old picture frames. I do it all the time. A friend of mine has a huge weaving machine and she never uses it. Some times Elementary is the best way to start and keep going.

Yarn has many types of fibers that I love, too. So many new yarns, too. Eyelash, puffy stuff that looks like clouds, some stuff now is sooo soft, too.

I would buy a lot of yarn. I mostly like to knit and crochet, so I think that'd keep me happy for quite a while. Unfortunately, I don't have any storage space right now.

That's a big problem for me right now, too. It seems like I get yarn faster than I can find storage for it.

I do rubber stamping and card making...and I wish I could buy a bunch more stamps! LOL....I do have alot already but it's nice to get new ones and start up the mental juices making a new type of card. Your weaving sounds very interesting. I have never tried it but I do a bit of sewing....not like that is anything like weaving.....I am so glad to find out here on mylot that there are still people doing these crafts and keeping traditions alive!

I admire people who can sew, esp. with a sewing machine because I thread them all messed-up. Machines and I seem to be enemies.
Yes, it is cool that so many people do so many different crafts here.
I can see how collecting and using rubber stamps could be addicting. So many neat pictures out there. Different inks, different ways to embellish them. Acutally, silk ribbon embroidery and many embroideries use stamped fabric first and I could see me becoming addicted.

Beading supplies, including beads & cording (silk, satin, leather, threads, fibers, wire, etc.) I like bead weaving, cord weaving or a combination of the two. It takes a lot of time and patience but I love seeing the end result and thinking, "Wow, I made this!"
I like the effect the different textures and combinations produce.

They're a whole bunch of beaders on here. You may want to look through the responses and check out the other beaders.
I think the cording you listed sounds really cool and interesting. I never really thought about wire as cording.
Thanks for the reaponse and take care.

do you have a large loom? i would love to try that but of course, its a lot of money to invest in them. i have a small vintage metal one which i have used for placemats, etc.
for me, i get tired of a project and like to move on to something different. right now, i am making friendship bracelets (i made some for my daughter's friends and some for my nieces for Easter) i got this cool book on knotting out of the library (can you say macreme - so 70s!)
currently, i am busy making shower invitations though. it just depends on what the season is as to what i am doing (i make my own cards and tags and last year, i scrapped both my daughter's baby books.)
i guess you could say i am a jack of all crafts and the master of none lol!

I have a wooden picture frame loom and some tiny popcycle looms. When the big wooden project gets on my nerves, I do some small popcycle ones.
I like different projects, too. But this I'm really taken with.

All kinds or mostly glass or something?
I think the lampwork beads they have now are awesome. Some of the femo ones are neat. The metalics are really something, too.

Crystals are beautiful. Funny how I never think of them when I think of beads. I often think of the ones I listed and wood. Not sure why, probably just what I've seen the most. Thanks

Wow! Such a variety of crafters on this discussion. I would choose beads. They range from tiny to huge, from shiny to matt, come in all different colors and shapes. The array is endless, for a beaded jewelry designer like me, they offer unending possibilities.

There are a couple of beaders now.
Yes, I love the variety. Crafting discussions are usually surprisingly fun.

I think I would collect old fashioned peices of cloths. Lovely old Victorian colors and such. I would use yarn and beads to embroider(my daughter would do this part) on certain pieces to make different themed quilts. I saw some art in my old doctor's office that his wife had done. I always marveled at how pretty and different it was. People seem to pay a hefty sum for nice quilts now days.

For me, I would buy all kinds of cool papers. I've always loved paper for some reason - and actually I do have quite a collection in the craft closet. But I'll take more - hee hee. It's something about the feel of it, the way they are flimsy in different ways, the various qualities of it, the many patterns . . . sometimes even the smell of it (is that crazy)? We have a local art store that dedicates the entire 2nd floor to paper . . . it's unbelievable how many different kinds of paper are out there. I've even made homemade paper . . . very interesting what paper concoctions you can create!! I've done art all my life - paper has always been my thing!!

I like paper, too. Papier machee is one of the first paper loves that I had. I hope the weather is dry enough this year for me to make paper. Last year was so wet, everything was getting moldy.

Very humid where I live. Some years, we can only do projects that require dry air during the month of July or December and that's it. Last year, July was wet and only December wasn't humid. So paper and paper mache are serious challenges here.

Moldy - oh no! Is it humid where you are? I hope you will get to make paper too! Oh - you remind me that I need to think of some paper mache projects for my kids during the summer (need to plan now!). I was just thinking . . . I would buy gobs of any craft item from any craft category . . . doing any type of craft / art is the best!!

I would buy beads and also fabric (now that I want to take up quilting). I love to craft and have so many silk flowers that I can open my own factory. I also want to start making candles (I have a kit, but have not used it yet). I wish I could make money online to make my crafts and sell them. Right now Randy and I are not working (he is trying to get disabilty) and I have decided to take care of him full-time until I am done with school. I have my first Master's Degree and in September I will start working towards my second Masters. I am trying to make money so I can survive.

Fabric is nice Tactile like some of the items for weaving are. Many beaders here. I'm surprised at how many.
You could try etsy and ebay for selling things. You could also find out what the laws are for rummage sales where you are. We can have three a year here without having to start a business or pay taxes. But everywhere is different.
Good luck on disability. Now is a hard time to get it. So many people coming back from the war need help.
You might want to check out the tutorials on ebay and the articles written by successfull etsy people about how to sell and be successful online with crafts.
Carmilaurel (sp?) has made candles, I believe.
I received ONE Master's Degree and it cauuses problems when I need work. They don't want to provide me with training or help me very much to get anything besides substitute teaching.
Good luck and take care.

It would be the threads that I need to finish my cross stitch patterns. I do have two more projects that I need to finish, I have just run out of thread. Plus, I would like to have some extra thread so that when I start with a new pattern, I can just recycle from the left over threads from my old projects.

I don't weave but I do like to crochet. I once did almost 100 scarfs over the winter. I haven't done it much lately. I made a sort of small fashion scarf out a yarn called 'eyelash' it's very fine and a little hard to work with but it looks so pretty , it's black to match my black coat.

I love eyelash yarn because it is really cool looking and some of it is very soft, too. It does make some really great looking scarves. Thanks and take care.
