I used to read some news that talks about insects dishes in luxury restaurants or hotels, and it is very expensive. I thought, if i have a chance i will try to eat it. However, on the way going to Siem Reap, Cambodia by bus in my vacation last year, i had a chance to see insects dishes. Many women with baskets of fried insects and invite us to buy it. These insects dishes look nice in light-brown. Insects are crickets, black spiders. The sellers said that this black spider type is in Cambodia only, it is very delicious, fried crickets are too. However, i was not brave to try to eat it at all...so that i also don't know it is delicious or not. Mylotters, have you ever eaten insect dishes? How do you feel when eat it?

I don't know if I could eat insects... I like to think I would be open-minded enough to try but, when faced with the actual insects in front of me, I'm not sure I could LOL My daughter went to the insectarium near where we live and they were having an event at the time where you could taste insects... she tried grasshoppers, maggots and, I think, possibly ants or crickets. She is much more adventurous than I am -- and she has a much stronger stomach

My daughter is very adventurous, yes. She is a university student doing a double major in Anthropology and Psychology. Her goal is to become a Forensic Anthropologist. She isn't really afraid of anything that other people find "gross"... when they go into the labs at school, she wants to see and touch everything One of their recent lab tasks was to skin a mouse... to basically make what she called "a little mouse rug" I am terrified of mice and I could NOT even look at the skin which she brought home wanting to show me how she did! But coming back to your comment about that insects, yes, I believe many are perfectly safe to eat -- we just don't like the look of them but they wouldn't hurt us.

She will become a Forensic Anthropologist soon, so that she could eat maggots. Not many gals can do like her, i think. We scare to eat insects because of seeing them directly, then I just have an idea, we can roll insects inside flour, bread or leaves and then fried it. Then we can eat it easily. However, if i am a person who do roll it in the covers, i may not eat it later because i know well that there are insects inside...:)

Like you, I used to think i will try but when faced with it, I could not eat. Maggots, your daughter could eat it? she is so adventurous. Thinking of maggots, my body become cold already. I am very scary to see alive maggots. I think insect dishes are clean also, insects are cooked/fried as meat. I mean it may not cause your stomach problem...^^

I am going to visit Cambodia soon and I have read about the fried spiders and I have also seen some pictures of them. When my husband and I had seen the pictures we joked about it and told eachother that we had to try that when we go to Cambodia, but I don't think that of us would really eat those spiders or other kinds of fried insects. I am willing to try other kinds of unusual kinds of food (or unusual seen from our own culture), but I am not sure that I would have to courage to eat fried insects.

I showed my husband the pictures. He said: "I am not going to eat that!" and I don't think that I can convince him to try I don't know about myself. I usually like to try to the local food when I visit another country, and I have read that the fried insects should be very delicious, but I am not sure that I would have the courage to eat them when when they are right in front of me.

I haven't eaten an insect before but sure would like to try someday. They might be icky and disgusting but I know that they are clean and safe for eating. One day I am going to try eating worm rings in one of the tourist spots in our country. Probably the most exotic food I've eaten is fried frog.

I have not eaten any insect's dishes so far, though there are restaurants for that in my country but I don't know what particular place, but some people here have tried that they are quite really expensive though. And well cooked, prepared with very attractive food presentation. And some of my friends have an interest to try to eat insect's dishes, but I have no idea about me, I think I still have to think about it for now.

if you eat in restaurants, insects dishes is quite expensive because it is not easy to catch insects also, I think. If you are a person who likes adventurous, you try to eat insects and then remember to tell me your feeling of that dish...lol.

When I was a child someone brought me chocolate covered ants. I didn't even notice anything but the chocolate though. Nothing gross like bug guts or anything. Ants don't seem to me like they'd be so bad, but I wouldn't eat any other kind of bugs especially a roach or spider.

We don´t eat insects in my country and although I have tried many different kinds of food, I think I would not be happy eating insects. I know that they are a luxury in many places. I saw a gourmet restaurant on TV serving big, juicy, ants. I would pass.

I suppose that it is a matter of culture. I love a lot of foods that would shock people from other places. I clearly remember that I was checking on a very good american cook book for hints on other ways to prepare octopus and the book called it "that hideous creature" I love snails and all sorts of seafood. I have eaten guinea pig and rabbits. Yummy to all of them. Maybe I´d try a fried insect, as long as it´s not roaches.

No I couldn't. The exotic food menu isn't at all appealing to me. I couldn't get past the smell. I have seen people eat chocolate covered insects and other things but it still wouldn't be appealing for me. I'm too skeerd.

Worms taste looks like chicken? i am surprised to hear it. A cooker might put lemon leafs, ginger in worms dishes and then eaters will have a feeling that they are eating chicken meat because of lemon leafs and ginger's smell, i think...:)

Insects are small, so that its nutrient is smaller than the others type of meat, i think. Sometime, we like delicious dishes, not only because of much nutrients. many people who have a diet will really love insects dishes if it is very delicious and not fat at all...^^
