We are into motorcycle business as our business. And just recently, we met some people who brought electric motorcycles here in our country.
Electric bicycle is really a bicycle with attached chargable battery and some electricals for it to run. It is so light with charging time of 3 to 8 hours. Its speed is only40 to 45km per hour. When the battery is full, its range is 60 to 80km before the battery will be drained. But I suggest that you charge it every night if you go to lot of places.
Ofcourse you need no gasoline. It is a good and thrift replacement to motorcycle when you are just going around town like me. By the way, I live in a small town where motorcycle and bicycles is very common basic transportation. Electric bicycles needs no LTO registration (government) and it requires no drivers license. Just be safe and wear helmet or head gear.

I have an electric bicycle and I am very impressed with it. In the UK, in order to avoid tax and insurance, a power-assisted bicycle must not be able to travel at more than 24 km/hr under power and must have pedals (so that it can be propelled in the usual way). Many electric bicycles look just like an ordinary cycle although they are considerably heavier because of the motor and the battery. They usually have a range of under 50km, however, so are useful for daily commuting of up to about an hour each way.
I use my bicycle mainly for pleasure. We have a number of cycle paths near where I live which take me into the country and along the river. I also use it for shopping trips into town (about 5km) and to the local supermarket although I would be happier if it had a better luggage carrying capacity.
My bicycle is made by a Chinese battery company - Sakura - and is built to look more like a scooter than a bicycle. It cost me around $800 and, since it charges overnight from the household mains, the running cost is only a penny or two a mile.

I think I would have preferred one that had less 'smart' plastic streamlining and more room for sensible things like panniers. I chose it because the seat was low enough for me to easily put my foot to the ground and because it was considerably cheaper than the more 'bike-like' alternatives.

Hello owlwings. :) I am very impressed too with ebikes! Yes, there are many ebike models. I prefer the one that looks like a bicycle. Its dual purpose that you can use it as a regular bike and you can use the ebike when youre tired pedaling.

rechargeable motorcycle is by no means a substitute to bicycle. bicycle is still the better means of transportation in small town because of the gas emission-free component. i guess nothing beats the original bicycle where a human energy is exhausted and does not contribute to gas emissions.

Hello mensab. Thanks for your response.
Since ebikes has no motor, it doesnt need gas thus making it emission free. It is environmental friendly. :) Yes, nothing beats the original bicycle. What I am saying is that it is a great alternative for MCs here in our town..

Hello peavey. we offer the ebike for installment basis just like motorcycle. You can save time and money if you go to work commuting if you'll get a vehicle of your own even if its just ebike or motorcycle. If you have budget, you can get yourself car. It saves time and money I believe

Its speed is only 40 to 45km per hour. That speed is okay if you don't drive fast

Hi Bluespygirl, this electric bicycle has caused big debate in China many years ago, since it is as good as a motorcycle, but is just a bicycle.
The traffic police in big China cities do not know whether to regulate it or not, since more people are using it, and the speed is as good as the speed of using motorcycle.
I think it is good for people to have more user friendly choice of getting to work.
If they forget to charge the battery, they will have to cycle very hard.

Here in the UK,there are regulations in law that define what is a motorbike, or moped,or scooter. Most of these regulations would be about defining the power of the engine and the speed that the machine can reach. An ebike is still regarded as a bicycle as it is unable to climb hills on motor power alone,(You DO need to pedal on hills!) so it cannot be considered to be a motorbike as it doesn't have the power to go everywhere solely under its own power. Secondly,a UK spec. ebike's top speed is limited to about 15mph (About 24 kph)..it's not going to get you there fast, but you don't need motorbike spec. safety clothing either.. And you must be older than 14 to ride one. I've had Police coming over to Me while getting on my bike, interested in checking it out as they were curious as to what it was!

Hello scheng1. Really? It caused a big debate there? I think there will be debate here too when time comes that many will purchase it. The government agency that handles evertything about transportations here in my country gave our company a memo which says that police can't apprehend it. Ebike users just have to wear helmets not only as protection but also as what as regulized

A couple years ago, my husband did convert a traditional bicycle into a motorized bicycle (which did require gas, but it was certainly a lot cheaper for him to ride that to and from work during the summer). Then the following year, he moved up to a moped that he could ride to and from work.
I have to say, however, that I really think that it would be good to have an electric vehicle that he could use to go to and from work.
His place of employment is only about three miles away from our house.

I have seen those micro engine kits to motorize a bike on ebay before..I wasn't aware of them until I already had an ebike! Apparently they will come under similar legislation as an ebike as they're low powered..There was a French built motorized bike from around the 1940's that had a small engine that drove the front wheel..a few years ago,I read there was a company that had acquired the original plans for these bikes and had put them back into production..I've yet to see one,though..

Well, I have always wondered why, so it is in my country (Italy), the energy source is not used as an alternative fuel pollutant. Sure, the company's business of oil is certainly unstoppable, but in times like these where the crisis weighed on households' portfolios, having electrically-propelled vehicles, would certainly a great saving.
In Italy it still speaks little. Ok if you want, these find the electric bikes, but they are costly and perhaps for this reason are not able to succeed, at least until now.
Other than that I live in Genoa is a city that has almost all roads rising. if, therefore, with a traditional bicycle there would be disadvantaged, with an electrically driven vehicle, it is bypass this drawback.
We hope that this progress will be able to make successful, I hope it also to respect the environment.

Hello. Electric bike I believe are environment friendly for it has no pollution like the regular motorcycles. With the gas price nowadays, it is thes ebikes are great alternatives rather than commuting around the town. We are offering it on an installment basis that makes it affordable. Thanks for your response.

We do not see a lot of electric bicycles here, but maybe we should. It is expensive to buy gasoline. People here still do not walk much or use alternative transportation.

Gerty,I saw Wallyworld was selling a couple of ebikes on their website a while back, but I noticed they were the earlier generation (i.e, big and Heavy!) Lead Acid type batteries...More current tech ones would have the Lithium Ion type batteries, similar to those of a cellphone only scaled up,which would hold a good charge and have good range and not be a hindrance weight wise..

I've owned 2 of these e-bikes so far,the most recent of them being (after a frame problem was fixed by the supplier) now into it's 4th year..I can use it for commuting, and as it's a folding type, can also take it in the back of my car and use it to get around at my destination..As You say, they don't require road tax or a license, though they're not intended for use by children. They can be serviced as a regular bike, but the (removable) battery packs that drive the motor do begin to degrade in capacity over time and will need replacing at some stage.

Unfortunately here the motorcycle and electric bikes are not allowed. You can choose the public traffic, private cars or bikes only. In fact I like the electric bikes since it is less dangerous compares to the motorcycle. And it is cheaper, too. But it is no way to ride it here anyway.
I love China

Ebikes made in China are widely available here, and the widespread use of bikes as popular transport there would be well known..but ebikes are not permitted on the streets where they're being made?

I agree with ShepherdSpy. The ebike that we are selling are made in China. Why is it not allowed in your area?

Well a friend told me she want to buy electric bicycle. She said she would really save money just to get one. Now I was wondering how electric bicycle operates and good thing your post provided the answer to this question.
As for me I think electric bicycle is cool however it eliminates the opportunity to get exercised. Many people do get into biking for the purpose of exercising so I think electric bicycle will not be attractive to them.

I have one electric bicycle. It is sure a convenience to use it if you only live in a small town or you don't need to ride a far distance. It has little noise and absolutely no exhaust emission,so it is a environmental vehicle.Of course, the restrict of electric bicycle is also obviously. When you use a electric bicyle, you must consider the electric amount in battery at all times, and you must know how long you have rode because you must sure the remained electric in battery is enough for you to ride back.I think some charging station should be set up,so it will be more convenient to use electric bicycle.

The supplier I bought my particular machine from was selling them on ebay at the time..(4 years ago) Though I had excellent after sales service from them (They were UK Based) that company has now stopped selling those bikes, though at least one other company has taken over from them and offers spares as well as servicing those bikes they sell themselves..A local bike mechanic can sort out a new one for you out of the box..most would just need the tyres pumped, and everything aligned, adjusted and tightened to suit you. (That and charging the battery,of course, which is easy as charging a cellphone..)

I see many people are using that electric bicycle. I saw it and i actually find them cool. However, i don't like inhaling the smoke coming out of another people's car so i prefer to use my car when going around the city.
They're very nice actually and convenient to use than the motorcycle because there's no need for a registration.
