Police everywhere

Yesterday evening I observed one thing, the shops, markets were closed, the streets were full of police loaded with equipment like gun, tear gas shells and lathi (wooden sticks) etc, ready to face worst situations.
First I thought some VIP like chief minister or governor was visiting; but later I knew it was a festival known as Hanuman Jayanti; Birthday of Hindu god Hanuman; in the past there were communal fights on this day; so police was extra alert.
There was no power cut by the electricity department too.
I am happy, nothing happened because of this alert by police this time.
In normal times it is difficult to find police if you need help of any kind. In case of accidents police arrives very late; if you go personally to file a complaint; they kill time in deciding ,’in which police station’s area the spot of accident comes?’.
What is the situation in your place, are your police extra cautious during such situations; do they reach your home if you need their help, do they reach spots of accident very soon?

Also please share your views, opinions and comment on this.
Thanks in advance.

hi professor,
we got police visibility all the time. i guess for the same reason, to let the bad elements know that they shouldnt do anything bad.
it is just sad to think that undisciplined people get too much of the holidays and they forget their own ethics and manners which make them end up in police cells and precincts.
what goes into my mind is why these people dont like peace? that they would still need to see a policeman before they realize that they are going the wrong way.

I dont often go out, so I dont observe such things. But I have ample muslim friends, and I know many of them are good too. Like I went to old city in Hyderabad, which is a muslim area on some official work - getting valuation for one of the properties. The valuer was shocked that I went there. So he pulled out his car, and brought me back into this part of the city, saying that it is too dangerous for us to be going there.
There are good people in every community professor, we should be open to all possibilities..for example there are bad ones right in my family. :) So if my family is bad, how can I call others bad? It has nothing to do with religion, it has something to do with bringing up, and feeling of right and wrong that is taught in schools and colleges.

We have some bad situation here also regarding cops, I'm not telling all but some are really using their influence in some nasty incidents. I was afraid approaching cops too like what you said they don't mind complaints specially if your poor and no money to give. Most of them are corrupt. I have some trusty friends who are also in the service and I told them I hope they will stay the same and serve the people equal.

We are living in sad times when even religious processions need police protections. Gone are the days when people from all religions participated in inter religious functions and enjoyed the fun and frolic. Today everything is divided on the basis of caste and religion.
