I think that you can live happily on your own if you want to, but not many people do want to live like this which is why it is important that you get back out there and start meeting people who you could be friends with. Joining a class, like an art class for example, might help you with this as you would be able to meet people who have the same interests as you so you would have something that you could talk about. You don't have to think about dating again just yet, but you should at least try to make some new friends.

There is a difference between lonely (it's a feeling) and alone (which means you are the only one living there).
The only way to feel happy is to do what you like and to cherish and pamper yourself. Only if you are able to do so, to love yourself, take care of yourself, you will be interesting enough to someone else too.
Personally I am happy to be alone, it's the best thing of my life. I have all time for me, for my own thoughts, no complaints, nobody to take care of or to listen to complaints, so called jokes, trouble, etc etc. You can see this time/period as a big relaxing time and also time to find out what your likes and dislikes and goals are.

Lucky for you, you found Mylot where friends all over the world are here to cope with your situation. Go hangout with your friends, talk to your friends about your situation (you'll never know what advice they give you), try not to think about your ex and if you do always think about your ex, think about all the bad stuff in the relationship and you'll appreciate leaving them. Nothing wrong about a rebound relationship. As bad as it sound, everyone is different and you'll never know what they offer. Tell your friends to hook you up with some of their friends. And simply, give this time alone to find out who you really are. You'll be glad you did. This could be your time to breath.
