Today , during the conmunication with my chinese friends on line,I suggest them to listen to the song called "my prayer devotion",and I said "it is really a beatiful song".and two of them laughed me, and they said :we have never heart "beatiful song".I was confused ,beacause I always use "beatiful"to descirbe "song" during the past years of learning english.I wonder: is this wrong in grammar or habbit ??if I was wrong, pls tell me what is the suitble word to describe song??? thank you my dears!!

Assuming that it is indeed a beautiful (watch the "u" in beautiful) song, then it is absolutely correct to use that word. Lash

Hi lightrain, I think maybe they were being silly, I have described songs before as being beautiful there's nothing wrong with this description at all.

Personally I don't think that is a wrong or improper grammer. "Beautiful" can be used to describes song, maybe you're friends were just being funny or maybe that's not a word that they would particularly use to describe a word because it might sound "feminine" at least that's what my brother-in-law would say to me. My hubby one time said to him, that he thought a particular song was "delicate and had beautiful verses" and my brother-in-law started making fun of him because he wasn't describing the song in masculine way. But I don't think there's nothing wrong with that word, I know a lot of songs that are "Beautiful".

No it isn't wrong. Some people, including me, describe certain songs to be beautiful. I think your Chinese friends were unconsciously limited to the physical definition of the word beautiful. It does not only refer to the physical aspect, which is why I think you were not wrong in using that word in describing the song.

I don't know either what's wrong with calling a song beautiful. I don't know about your ages, but if you're teens, they may think they're cool if they use cool words like ace, epic, cool rather than classic terms...

My dear, accutually,I do not know their age ,maybe they are poor in this aspect, they said they have never heard that kind of saying .but your words are very suitable for my age, although I am not too teen,25years old. enjoy your days here.

There is nothing wrong about saying that the song is beautiful if you find it really beautiful. I use that all the time. If I find the song beautiful, then by all means if I am asked how to describe it, I would say that the song is beautiful. I think your friends just expected a much rather descriptive way of convincing them to listed to the song that you are referring to. You can say that "the lyrics of the song are touchy that blends perfectly well with the soothing melody of the music." You can say that to be a little more specific rather than just saying it's a beautiful song. But then again, what you have said is not grammatically incorrect.

lightrain the right word but you misspelled it .beautiful and the grammar is correct. you need to get an English dictionary to get the correct s pelling of words,. they should not h ave laughed at you as beautiful is often used to describe a song and its correct grammar too. so just learn the proper spelling and ignore those who have laughed at you.

I would think that 'tune' or just 'music' would be good words to describe the song. Or a lovely lyric. Something like that.
