Suddenly it is 40 degrees Celsius here

India
April 15, 2012 4:32am CST
After 14th April the days become longer and the nights smaller but I am surprised the temperature today has gone up from about 32 degrees Celsius to 40; very uncomfortable for I and my wife; our soles of feet burn like fire and too painful due to diabetes neuropathy. I have started using the air-conditioner, air coolers (desert coolers); with increased rate of electric power consumption @ rupees 5.10 plus duties per kilowatt-hour my monthly bill will be too high for next 4-5 months. Have you started using your air-conditioners and coolers, how much you pay for each kilowatt-hour there? What is the maximum temperate during summer, here in my city it will shoot to 58 Celsius soon, I really feel like roasted popcorn. Please share your views, opinions and comment on this. Thanks in advance. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . 14/04/2012

Hello Sir, Luckily we don’t’ get much temperature so far. The last two days we got rain too so the climate is ok at this place. In this place the temperature may reach up to 50 degree and that is also rarely. In summer time we are visiting our native place so we are not facing much problem. We are yet to start with the coolers, thanks to the rain God. We are paying 5 rupees per unit for the electricity. We are paying to the land lord according to the sub-meter reading. In summer the bill is always high.

Sir, in Kerala ,there is always rain, even if it is not rainy season, for the same reason humidity is high. The maximum temperature may be 36 degree. But last year, I heard that in some place of Kerala the temperature got 40 degree. Take care of your health sir. Have a nice day.

We had one day here that it got up in the high 70's and I nearly turned on the fan I have in my room. It has been getting up in the 60's daily now. I don't have your feet problems but I don't care for the heat. I think it has to do with the medications I take. Always have to be careful.

Electricity rates here are pretty high too.sometimes our electricity bill reach up to 5000 pesos ( i am not sure how much is that in rupees) we have three air conditioned rooms at home so most of the time it is in use as we have kids at home and they need to feel cool or else they would start complaining of the heat.. it reaches up to 39 degrees celsius here too. the living room, we use some electric fans as most of the time there is no one at the living room as all are in their own rooms Electric bill will be pretty much higher this month as it is the summer time and we use the air more! But i hope it will be lower too as my city is having some electric problems, we are experiencing 5 hours a day with no electricity..they have to ratio the power usage which sucks..

We've had our central air on and off for about the last month. For example, it was hot over the weekend and the air conditioner was running. However, today it isn't so warm outside and that does mean that the air has not been running. I'm not actually sure about how much that we have to pay per kilowatt hour here, but I know that our highest electric bill during the course of the year is typically around $150. The average high temperature during the summer months is 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

we have started using AC's but not regualrly and not continuously. We usualy run Ac;s for 30 min for so to cool the room and then its ok for a while before we have to start the AC again. Electricity consumption depends on the usgae, star ratings beside sthe kwt per hour.

Good idea to run intermittently ,I am aware of the star rating too.

though very regular switch on and off are not recommended, but i do so to ensure my baby is comfortable and the room is not too cool for him

I'm sorry, but we don't do the metric system here, so I have to convert that. Give me a second... OMG! It's 104 degrees Fahrenheit over there! Geez! It doesn't get that hot here until June.

It will go up to 30 degrees celcius here and maybe a little more in summer, but we live in a northern climate here in Canada so for us the worry is in the winter where there is wind chill, chance of freezing our toes off, etc.. Then we have to put on the air conditioner but I find that I pay less in the summer. It is the winter we have to worry about when it goes to 40 below sometimes with a wind chill. All in all, our bill averages to around $135 a month and that includes gas, and electricity, but not water. I can take high temperatures minus the humidity, but probably not that high.

We also experience the hot season I think 33 is the hottest so far, but strange we have some rain too. Unfortunately I don'have irons or coolers so I don't have to worry about my electric bills. Only my electric fans are over used because it's too hot without it.

It is hard to believe that it is already 40 degrees in your side. It is just so hot. Here I guess it is about 29 degrees but I already feel it is so hot for us. I can't even go to swim now:) It seems it becomes hot earlier this year. My son and my parents start to use the air=conditioners. Since lately my husband doesn't feel well, so we just use fan. I love China

Yes its become sizzling hot and its very difficult to walk in the sun. With more and more trees cut and total destruction of natural vegetation, this is going to be the trend in the future. Its going to become more and more hot in the coming summers.

Hi, Professor, it's hot out there. In my country we still hope to abandon the winter clothes. I always say that I prefer the hot weather because I suffer in the winter cold. But 40 degrees is too much and 58 - this is unbearable. And the bills for using air-conditioners... I can't afford to use this and if the electricity prices continue to raise up maybe the next winter I wouldn't afford to heat my home.

oh my goodness that's really hot! lucky us we don't experience that kind of heat here. It's good you have air-conditioners, but that will surely cost you alot on electricity bill, but still better than be roasted alive. :)

Nope, lucky me we only need the air-conditioner just a few days in the year. Sometimes when the hot sahara air blows over to the canaries we can reach 40-50 Celsius and then you really need to turn that thing on ... Unless that happens we are normally fine without it :)
