I have been finding my niche recently and found out that I like doing something I love at my freedom, any job will do, without boss, no clock in, no target especially, this will makes me very happy. I know I found myself in self-employed category and would like to work towards it, do you know how to be self-employed, not in online because I think online money are only big for those experts and not for me.

It's not actually simple and comfortable and stress free at all. In fact, I would say that it is not any of those things. You have stress in finding and keeping enough work to earn enough to live on. you have to get your name out there so that you do get enough work and there isn't that guaranteed paycheck each week. Like anything, it has its pros and cons. The biggest thing is that you can set your own hours for what works for you and you don't have to answer to a boss.

Finding enough odd jobs to supplement enough income will be a problem to me, since I am quite unsure of how this will do. I only know typing simple english and mylotting at night. There is a job I do in a research office, which is quite flexible enough, but you have to set yourself a target to make that full income.

Same here. The problem is in my case, I can't really think of any way to be self employed. I'm open to any way I can make money.

Hi Marty, I used to do all sorts of things on my own. I would clean apartments for people who were moving so they could get their deposits back. That led to meeting landlords and cleaning apartments for them so that they could rent them. I cooked meals for an elderly man who hated the "Meals on Wheels". I just made sure I had enough of whatever I cooked for meals that I had enough to fix him a plate. I babysat. I had kids dropped of for before and after school just so their parents could get to work on time. Sewing & typing. I did finish work and odd jobs for a private construction company. There is a mountain of stuff you could do. You just have to put your name out there. I even did laundry for a transvestite that did not want to take his laundry to a public laundrymat. He paid me quite well to keep quiet and I did.

My father also tells me there are many ways to be self employed, when I asked how, he said I will let you figure it out, now it is said here, I am hoping I can take some jobs like this.

I really want to be self employed, because I want to stay at home and take care of my kids. Before I quit my permanent job, I was thinking of different alternatives, and finally found that becoming a freelance programmer is more suitable to me and fit to my purpose of staying at home. I am now a freelance programmer. Though I do not earn much, as I would like to spend more time with my kids instead of working on projects, at least I can still earn some income.

I am self employed at the moment, and I find that I am able to earn a lot more money by doing this than I was ever able to do when I was working for somebody. I write articles and upload them onto a website and then promote the links using my social networking accounts. This alone means that I am able to earn enough to live through the month, and also I use a few other websites for a little bit of extra spending money which means that I can either treat myself with something that I want, or I can put a little bit of money into my savings account as I am saving up for a flat at the moment.

Working online is a good way to be self-employed. There are many sites where you can work or do research to get paid. Although many of these sites will consider you a independent contracter. Though, you are pretty much working on your own terms.

That's quite difficult to answer. It is given fact that unemployment rate nowadays is increasing so being self employed also is quite unachievable.I do agree with you also that you can earn more in online if you're already an expert. If not expect less.

Hi Wongchoiyee, You say you found your niche in being self-employed. You don't mention what it is that you do. I was self employed for a time when my girls were small. What I loved about it the most was the freedom to pick my own hours that worked for me. The truth is that I worked harder than I did at any regular job. It's not easy, for sure. It worked for me at the time but when I got divorced, I needed a steady paycheck that I could rely on to raise my girls. The thing with being self-employed is finding enough work and collecting money from people. It's not easy or stress-free for sure but it does have it's perks.

From the experiences that I've had in the time that I've been trying to make a living without being in a traditional workplace. The first thing that I've found is that you have to find something that you really, really like and believe in. In addition to that, you also have to realize that you have to work harder when you are self-employed than you do when you are working for someone else. However, I think in the grand scheme of things it is better to be self-employed than it is to work for someone.

good day wongchoiyee, there are a lot of things on how to be a self employed. as self employed, you are also categorized as an independent business person. hence, in this situation, you can do a buy and sell business if you are good in trading. and there are a lot of things and commodities you can deal with trading. aside from that, you can also do some loading business, if you have the captured market, it will be easy to sell mobile/cellphone loads since this is one of the necessity by many. thus, you can do and can be a self employed, you just need the patience to make it started. perseverance is one of the key to achieve success. cheers.

You can start with online shops. You can use fb to do that. You can start selling used items that you think are still worth selling. That would help you start your own business.

Well, dear friend, I unfortunately I'm stumbling into a bigger problem than yours. Frankly speaking I does not matter to work under a boss, there have even less time to meet. But one thing I would ask to life: a job! Yes, exactly right to me missing work. I'm no expert in any field except a little with the electrician or the computer, but nowadays, if you're not really able to work, unfortunately there is a risk that you remain unemployed! This is unfortunately what is happening to me now, despite of age 37 years already!

Self employment has a lot of advantages which you have listed. But if you do not have the minimum start up capital to invest in the business you may likely have some difficulties along the lines or way. You also need some skills or experience in the business which you should have acquired beforehand or before now. You should also have some interest, love or passion for the business you are embarking on. You should not go and start a fashion or cosmetics business if you are the type that is not love fashion, beauty or clothing. You should go for things that you love doing and since you have the love or interest you will certainly do very well. You should go for businesses that you understand the risk that is involve in it. But how many of us care about this issues these days? We are being carried away by what we see our neighbour do and we quickly jump into it thinking that we can also succeed. We should take time to study the market and our chances of making profit out of the business. Most people think it is the big start up money that you invest in a business that makes you to succeed. Success in a business is more than start up capital it involves your total you and your full commitment to the ideals of the business.

Same here I would like to be more active in this area. One thing for sure there is a wealth of information on the subject of self employment. I’m not sure what the answer is only that it must be different for each person. My thoughts are whatever our experiences, skills and interests are we should continue to develop and find some way to apply them to finding ways of making income from it. My last job in this big bad world was on a help desk and at one time considered consulting as a possible venue for personalized service but making a transition to self-employed did not happen, at least not yet. Now I think mostly on the lines of things I could produce as a home made product (maybe something that breaks and let someone else fix all the problems.) - joking

Run a business. If you have your own family business, then you can help it prosper and have your own branch. If not, you can start your own business. Do some research in the internet and find what you really want for business. You dont have to be an expert to earn online money. Like me, when I started learning I didnt know anything about earning online. And now, I am earning a reasonable amount of money. If you are willing to learn, then you can earn online.

self employed really is a good choice in our life, you can just do it on your spare time, and is flexible =) maybe you can looking for something to sell? open a store. just find something that you think you can handle, and start with a small investment (capital). when you think it is really suit you, only decide how to make it larger =)
