I'm sure many are aware how businesses employee many different methods to bring more customers into their stores. Some are using visible advertising such as using large or bright signs. And there are also plenty of other things they do which may not be so obvious to the customers. When I'm hearing the music played as I'm walking through supermarket aisle, I can't help thinking that's also part of how they lure customers. They would play upbeat or catchy music in the hope to get customers to listen, thus stay longer, and shop more...

Oh, the music is really important. As well as putting the most expensive stuff in the level of eyesight, bargains, signs of interesting and bright designs, marketing campaigns, celebrity endorsement, food tasting... you name it. Marketing people are really creative nowadays.

They sure are... One more example of subtle method; they are using our sense of smell to lure people. I notice that's why they put bakery section up front in supermarkets. You may have known this already; but in case you have not, I notice that you have just passed 200+ so now you are able to use the emoticons if you'd like. They're just adding more fun to our posts.

Hello Sishy7, I used to be a shoppaholic, I really love shopping and windows shopping but now I try to be the part of the business people. Yes, the business people use many ways to attract their customer. When Im going to supermarket I can see some of the sales girls offering free sample or free tester specially for food products, eating small portion of the free food/snack sample is effective to make people try to buy more. About the music they played on the store, I have a story about it. I usually stay a little bit longer in a store when the store is playing my favorite song hahaha and I will not go to the cashier until the song is finished even I have the song on my ipod and I can play it anytime I want. All I can say is that they have good marketting trick. (but glad Im a student on budget so no matter how long I stay in the store listening to their music, if I dont have extra money to spend then I will not buy what I dont need)

Hi again, They also try to lure people to fall into doing some impulse purchase. While we stand in line at the supermarket cashier, they'd put magazine stacks close by in purpose for us to start reading or noticing what's on the cover. If there's something that interest us, we'd end up buying the magazine even though it's not something that we planned or listed on our shopping/grocery list. Clever indeed. All the best with your studies. I understand many high school students (Year 12) are finished with their National Final Exams there already, right? I know you're in college, so that may not have anything to do with you anyway...

yes, they put magazine, chocolate, candies, and small toys in a stand next to queue line, it can attract the little kids who shop with their parent I experienced it several times when I shop with my 7 years old nephew, they know waiting in a queue line can bore us especially the kids and they really do a good marketting trick to lurk the little customer. Well the year 12 has finished the national exams but the grade 9 will have national exam on monday 23rd april. My brother is at grade 9 and I kinda worry about his health. I have over sensitive feeling whenever one of my family is ill or having problem I would feel the same, this is why Im not being active on mylot lately.

They are clever, aren't they? They know how to use our senses to lure customers; our eyes, ears, sense of smells or touch can all be affected by these kinds of marketing techniques.
