Hearing People Talk to Them Self Out Loud

Have you ever been around someone who, when they think they're all alone they will talk to themself, out loud not knowing that someone can actually hear them, possibly up or downstairs from them? Will you think they are crazy or just being normal? Do you normally do this when you think you're alone? What would your reaction be if you heard someone doing this very often?

I used to talk to my cats all the time. They are all gone now, so I just talk to myself. If I hear someone at the store talking, and it's not to me, I just figure they have a phone that is hands-off.

I still have one cat whom I will kind of talk to when I feel she is "attentive" to me, but it's only normal to do that. You want or wish that they can actually "know" what you're saying too sometimes. It's Ok to talk to yourself if it doesn't get to carried away.

Well I have caught my dad whispering to himself before. I'm guilty of talking to myself though and I have gotten caught quite a few times. Usually someone in another room is like "who are you talking to?"

Whispering is alittle different, it is not really that loud so he is "safe", and not crazy at all.

Only when I am angry. Otherwise I don't talke to myself. I have heard others do it and sometimes I think they are talking to me and I ask them what they said and it's kind of embarassing when they explain that they were just talking to themselves!

Ha, yea I do it mostly when I'm angry, and there have been some instances where anyone would have gotten angry at the person who gets me angry enough to do it. I have been in the same scenerio too when I ask someone who they're talking to and they say themself, it's funny though.

SOmetimes I walk on the greenbelt and there are homeless people congregating there sometimes. They tend to wonder around and talk to themselves. I think they have psychiatric problems. It is rather sad. I will talk to myself when I think I am alone sometimes. Or talk to the cat as if I think it will understand me.

I talk to the cat at times, too. Other times when I talk to myself, I think I'm alone and get some anger out but nothing to extreme. I can't talk to anyone here ( as in home) when I'm angry so I wait til no one is here if I'm still feeling bad, it doesn't always help the situation but it relieves some stress perhaps.

Feeding your face helps too. I have had to stop all of that though as 'someone' noticed I was getting 'too fat'. It bothered me and ever since then I have been self concious about it.

Ha, yea that has happened to me too about the cellphones. It sounds as if they are talking to themselves but it's just that they're using their cell. I have looked up at them and wondered, then relize they have a phone stuck to their ear.

I sometimes talk to myself. I don't consider myself crazy, it just helps me relieve... and I'm aware that I'm talking to myself, lol :). So it wouldn't be that weird for me, only if they say something reaaallllly weird.

I don't say anything really wierd when i talk to myself but I have heard others. I'm just not so sure sometimes what is considered wierd or not, but I would guess if the things they were saying were totally untrue or exaggerated.

Yes, I always encounter those kinds of people. I actually don't get why they talk to themselves loudly, why don't they just think what they're thinking and not talk it out loud, right? Coz even though for some people it's normal, for me it's like really weird and anyone I see talking to theirselves, I find them so funny and in a bad way. So for those people talking to themselves, I advice them to stop it coz it looks really funny. You don't know maybe the people around you are laughing at you in their minds.

Well, not exactly. I really don't want to talk to myself loudly because I really think it looks funny. I know a friend who laughs at people talking to their selves loud and I feel like I don't want to be one of the people who she laughs at. And I think, I am beginning to laugh now and make fun of these people too.

LOL, I know what you mean, laughing at people for doing something like that is a sign of immaturity if you think about it. She might have a problem some day and I bet she wouldn't want others laughing at her, right?

Nowadays talking to one's self is no big deal. I see people everyday talking to themselves all the time. Most of the time they're talking to someone on their cell phone. So, you see today talking to one's self is not as taboo as it use to be.

Its a really weird thing when this happens. There is this on lady that always rides this bus. She sits there and rattles on about all kinds of things. Its like she is carrying on a conversation. One day i heard her say,"Mom, just stay on your own side and leave me alone." Shes not wearing a blue tooth or a ear piece. She always has with her a dolly with a large suitcase and what looks like a bed roll. Other people on the bus give her strange looks and some laugh at her.

Talking to ones self doesnt necessarily make a person dangerous either. Or crazy. I believe most people do talk to themselves. Most is quite innocent.

Well, she sounds like she might be a homeless person or has some mental problems, in this case. If she isn't a danger to anyone then I guess it is innocent, but I do worry about people like that being out and about. I feel bad that people laugh at others with mental issues. :(

Hiya NT, When in the Shops here going for Grocery I am often not sure if they talk to themselves or if they have a mobile phone that I cannot see. However if they do talk to themselves that is not a bad thing either it must alleviate their stress as we are all feeling stressed out just lately and it does not surprise me as when you go to the Shops your budget is very tight sometimes and the pressure has to come out some way. I think that this is harmless enough. We are all human I have uttered a couple of things to myself when I have banged my leg up on those steel trolleys ouch but other than that I keep myself in my own little world as I have to really concentrate on what I am getting and adding up the prices too so as not to overspend. Could be they are worried as well. Quite a few here that do that talk to themselves but a few times I thought they were talking to me he he he but I tried to be polite and not to notice. There are enough problems in the World without having to bother about just talking to yourself don´t you think? xxx

Yea, the pressure and everything is very tight and I'm sure talking to oneself can help reduce it. I'm just glad i don't hear everyone talking to themself at the same time, that would be really strange huh?

Hiya NT, I think that they just want to be heard by someone whoever and whatever. Also think that a few of them use the mobile phone a lot they just chatter away about anything in particular. There are at least five People that talk to themselves as they go around the Shop but I don´t take any notice as I can see that the pressure has got to them and their nerves are suffering a tremendous amount. Many lonely People in this World as well and they must feel really ignored sometimes. Could also be to relieve the pressure of troubled situations they live and its their way out so I have no qualms about this kind of thing really. I just hope that not everyone is going to start talking to themselves at the same time it really would be strange yes you´re right.xxx

So sorry that the pressure at the shop has gotten to those people you were mentioning, it's a sad time for many of us nowadays. Life used to be better for many. I know what you mean, the lonely do seem to need someone to talk to and if not they end up talking to themselves. I guess I'll go over the corner now and talk to myself. Sigh.

I am also guilty of this. I usually do this when I am driving alone. Sometimes I tend talk out loud especially when I am already bored in a long trip. You really looked crazy and funny. When I saw someone talking to themself, first I really think that it is funny and they are really have a little bit crazy minds. But realizing that I also did that, makes me smile and look at myself funny too.

It is good to laugh at oneself when they do something, and notice things that you do and others do that are alike. It gets you connected more to everyone else around you and their own habits.

Ha ha ha well, they are not crazy. I cannot judge them. Maybe they do not know what they are doing, and so they talk to themselves not knowing that someone can actually hear them. He he… Maybe they are alone or there is no one they could talk to. If I heard someone doing that, I am just going to keep quiet and understand them. I also do that. It happened to me once. I remember the day where I am so depressed and stress, and what goes on my mind I just talk to myself and I never notice that I am actually talking to myself, until someone ask me, “Are you talking to yourself?” It is so embarrassing Ha ha.

Hi! At first I would think that it is a little strange but then again, I remind myself that some people do need to talk to themselves as it does kinda help one to stay organized. We get caught up in so much "stuff" that you need a minute to just sort it all out....in the right places of course. :-)

Hi! I also had a cat named Cricket. Miss her! Sometimes I do that (in a appropriate times) and I find myself less stressed out when I do. I often laugh at myself; sometimes society makes things a lot more complex than it needs to be. Be well!

I miss my Cricket as well, she and I were close. She hated it when I got a new cat and he started to be close to me as well. I felt bad for her but I gave them both the same amount of attention too. I will try talking to myself more now that everyone thinks it;s OK and a stress reliever haha.

Hi Cricket. (I used to have a cat that had the name Cricket) Yea, I can understand, it gets to be stressful out there in daily life. There is so easy solution sometimes other than to work things out with yourself by talking.

That happens a lot, Humans are social animals and they naturally can`t live without talking. Yet its Strange that a normal person speaks to himself. But books on psychology says its completely normal and they would be stressed in they did not do that. Crazy na?

Yep I sure have. Ha ha, I am one who talks out loud to myself. With certain things hearing myself say it out loud helps me to remember it. I have seen and heard many people do this. It doesn't bother me at all. I think alot more people do it than they care to say.

Yes, many times during my life I have heard this. I guess sometimes I talk aloud myself if something is on my mind. It can happen sometimes if I am watching TV alone. Somebody may say something I thought was stupid and I would say aloud, "Don't be so stupid!" It's OK though, because there has only ever been me there to hear it! _Derek

A few times I have heard people talking to themselves out loud but I barely bat an eyelash to it anymore. Because I talk to myself out loud fairly often in my life. There are just times where that is about the only way I can keep myself sane a lot of the time. Then there are those instances where I have to talk myself through some instructions to do something. Believe me, it is much easier to remember things out loud at times, then to just read things. I'm sure everyone talks to themselves at times, and I'm sure many of those people no matter how much they refuse to acknowledge that they do it, do it far more often. Sanity is overrated when you really think about it. Then again, talking to yourself is not a completely insane thing to do, given some of the things people have been known to do.

I was just talking to myself earlier when I was doing a task on Mturk (a task website to earn a few cents) for an hour. I kept getting distracted by the TV in the next room as it is mostly on than off here, and couldn't get all the info I was reading to sink in at first.

I talk to myself sometimes when I think nobody hears it... usually when I have to make a decision it helps if I "discuss" it with myself. Also, when I prepare for job interview or going to have a discussion that I'm worried about, I practice loudly what I plan to say. I'm usually not surprised when I see others talking to themselves, although some do that a lot. When I lived in the city, I learned that urban people look down on those who talk to themselves, saying that they must be "crazy" villagers

Good for you, it is quite normal to talk to yourself in that way. A stressful situation is probably when the most people talk to themselves. Practicing what you will say to some special discussion or job interview is a good idea!

several years ago, when I work in office, I took the bus to go to work, everyday I saw a girl in the bus stop that took the same bus with me, she always talk to her self, sometimes she laugh too in a way that make me also laugh but not to mock her, I just couldnt help my self because of the way she was reacting, sorry.. Actually is not funny if you think twice, I believe sometimes this is the way some people react when they have lots in their mind, sometimes I find my self doing the same think, I am not laughing though... I have lots in my mind too.. he he
