Wrong Number!

Canada

Some people are out of their friggen minds. This actually happened to me this morning. lol Caller: Is Kay there? Me: Sorry, wrong number. Caller: Are you SURE? Me: that's the dumbest question I've been asked in 20 years! SERIOUSLY what part of "sorry, wrong number" is up for debate? Why can't sone people accept that sometimes they dial the wrong number? Do they really think I don't know my own damn name?

Exactly. Think you know your own name. I got so annoyed one time when a lady called over and over again and asked for someone who does not live in our house that I told the caller to hold on a minute and I would see if I could find the person she was calling. At that point I left the caller hanging and didn't bother to get back on the phone to give her more information. She finally hung up and didn't call again. Might have been rude on my part but it worked.

That is absolutely too funny to me, but similar has happened here. On the other hand, I keep caller ID so that I know if I even want to pick up the line. We have way to many strange people who call. Give me a minute, I will look under the bed and see if Kay is hiding there.

I only get charged on my cell if I listen to messages. I do not listen when I do not know the number.

I thought of that, but it's my cell, and costs money when someone leaves messages. If it was the house phone maybe, as there's no voice mail, but then they just might keep calling. I've had that happen too.

Maybe it was someone trying to collect on bad debt? Those collection people don't always like to take no for an answer.

You must have a common phone number that everyone is bs'n theirs and it turns out to be yours! The only problem calls I get on my land line are for a company in the area and a rep from a phone company had said they had my number listed as the number for that company. He claimed he had fixed it the other year but I still get a call once a year. "No Mame this is a residential number, no I don't know their correct number"

hi danishcanadaina oh my I had a similar experience . The man called and said" pleae get Rankin to the phone, maam" I told him" sorry novbody here but me and my roommate,no Rankin" And I will be damned'"oh come now this is his number. ARe you sure he is not around/" I said" look this might have been his number y ears back but its mine now. you have got ahold of my private number here in Dold Crest" He came back" but he cou ld be on of the residents?" I told him " you have the wrong nmber. do not call again." I hung up on him.I also knew that out of all the one hundred some people here there was no Ranking among them.I think its mainly men who get a wrong number and it won't soak in that its really a wrong number. Women have called and I told them they had the wrong nujmber, and they apologized and hung up.men!!!!!!!

I THINK YOu'RE 100% RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just remembered an incident I had with someone texting my husband's cellphone. I kept telling them this was not ###'s number, and they kept saying I was joking, I was mean, etc. Knowing it was a drunk student, teenager, young-type (you know what I mean!!) wasn't afraid to get on their level, and try to use words they understood. I used some pretty nasty ones, and they still kept it up. Definitely a male thing, now that I think of it. NEVER have I had a female act like this. Great point!

This is so annoying indeed. And sometimes after you say "wrong number" they say: Really? What is your number? Why On Earth should I give my number to a stranger? But I hope that I won't be out of my mind when I become an old lady, lol.

Could be that the person was very careful in dialing the number, but refuses to realize that the other person maybe didn't want to give them their real number and gave a bogus one instead.(which unfortunately for you...was your number). Hard to tell, I got a couple calls like this for about a week. I especially love when they re-tell the number to you, and you say yes, that is this number, but I am not that person! lol.

Or had that before. This person said 3 but dialed 2. I always ask what number they want, so I can see how far off they are.

I hope you are straightforward with people who ask. Some just give out wrong numbers, and that's probably why I got the call that I got. It's like that scene in two and a half men, when Charlie gives the girls the number for a dry-cleaner in Korea Town, and at the end you hear a guy yell into a phone "THERE'S NO CHARLIE HERE!!!" LOL

You remind me of my first trip to Stanford University Hospital. I stayed with a friend who lived a ways away from the hospital and I had to take a bus to her home. It was around 9 p.m. when a gentleman climbed on the bus. He was drunk of course and his wife and kids were with him. He spotted me and in is intoxicated mind I was rich, drove a Mercedes (which was in the shop), worked in the financial district in San Francisco and was the years greatest catch. He was all over me like a cheap suit and I was getting really tired of his advances...especially with his wife glaring bullets at me. Finally I said "If I give you a phone number will you leave me alone? Of course he said yes, so I fished out my address book and found the number I wanted. He wanted to know why I had to look up my phone number and I promptly stated that I just moved into the area and didn't have my number memorized yet. I kind of came on to him when I handed him the phone number and told him not to call until after 1 a.m. We got to the town and the bus driver had called the police to remove the family from the bus. He then turned on me and started chewing me out for a fair thee well for giving out my phone number to the likes of that man. I let the driver rant and rave for a while and then I looked up at him like an innocent hick and said "What makes you think I gave him my phone number?" The driver paused a moment and said "Well I could tell you're a country gal and...." I looked at him and finished the sentence for him..."country gals are not too smart." He looked a bit sheepish and he really felt bad when I explained "If you had listened a bit closer I said I would give the man "A" phone number. I gave the man the phone number of a neighbor who is a real pain and everyone hates. I sure am not stupid enough to give him MY phone number". The bus driver apologized several times and stated "I wish my daughter was that smart!" When I got home the next day the woman was going around looking furious. My Mom told me that the woman was complaining that some drunk guy kept calling her all night long. Not bad for a dumb country hick!!!

I suspected that the caller was being told by your other friend to do it for you. Maybe just to annoyed you or something...you can trace the caller or where the calls came from should you have "caller ID" installed in your land line phone. Mobhomeir here 041712

Ha ha ha, that's ridiculous. You should know if your name is Kay, or if someone named Kay lives with you. . At work, I was attempting to call a customer to follow up on an issue (I work in customer service unfortunately) and I was looking for a Dale and instead had the phone number of a Katie. Just makes me wonder how these kinds of clerical errors happen - inputting phone numbers. I have a lot of wrong numbers call me, and they are a consistent problem. I will answer their calls occasionally and explain to them that I am Not named "Devon", she must have had her phone number changed 2+ years ago (when I first got the phone number I have now), but they seem to forget and try calling Devon again about a month or so later.

I know what you mean. I changed my number when I changed phone companies, but the number I had before was assigned to a man named Andrew Keys, who buggered out on a lot of bills, and then changed his phone number. Searious, if I ever hear that name again, it'll be too soon. I had that number for almost 10 years, and I was still being harassed!! I know the feeling.

Haha yes, I very much agree with you and the fact it is very annoying and that you clearly would know your own name lol. But at the same time, I've been on both ends of this situation, and calling the wrong number is so awkward, you feel dumb after you do it. So, maybe the person just was shocked they had dialed the wrong number either because they call that person a lot so they find it weird to have dialed the wrong one, or they were just double checking because maybe they were positive they dialed the wrong number lol. But yes, I completly agree with you!

**or maybe because they were positive they dialed the RIGHT** number * -- Sorry. I was rereading my post and realised I had written 'wrong number' instead of 'right number' lol....

I got called up by someone like that just today morning! It was ridiculous. Elderly lady: Is it XY there? Me: Now, I'm sorry, I don't know any... Elderly lady: Don't you know XY? Me: No, I don't know anyone named XY. Elderly lady: (pause) Is it sure? I'm going to say the number... XXXXXXXXXXXX.. Me: Yes, it's my number, but I still don't know anyone called XY. Elderly lady: Then how come?... Geeeez. Just because I'm younger, she thinks I'm a complete moron? That XY name wasn't even something really uncommon, so I think I know if I know someone called that...

Unfortunately she might not have been all there in her head. I know a ton of eldery people who ARE all there, right up into their 100's, but I also know plenty of elderly people who are NOT there. Maybe that was her problem. Still frustrating, though.

I've had that happen so many times I've lost count! I hate it when they call back two or three MORE times asking for the same person! It's aggravating. When I was younger some guy called for a Mike, and I told him that there was no one there by that name. They called back again and again. After about the 10th time I stopped answering the phone and went and got my dad. He tried to deal with them and told them to stop calling. The stupid idiots actually ended up calling the police because they swore up and down that that Mike guy was there and we were keeping him from using the phone!! Talk about a messed up situation!

See, that's what you get for locking up Mike in the basement!!! It never ceases to amaze me how stupid some of the people in the world are! And I'm even more amazed at how it comes out when they deal with others. But then you have to look at it in the respect that after we get over being annoyed we can have a really good laugh over it.

That's better than the bill collector that wanted to swear up and down that I was my grandmother! I had answered the phone and she was at work. I told the bill collector that she wasn't available and could I take a message. He proceeded to say he knew that he was speaking to my grandmother and what debt she owed and the consequences of not paying. I told him "I'm not (my grandma) and furthermore I know she would be upset that you are discussing her personal financial business with someone other than herself!" He still wasn't listening at that point, so I hung up. I've always wondered if the company pulled that call. They are supposed to record, and if they can't verify that they are speaking with the individual in question, its against the law to give any info...that guy should have been fired.

It just happened to me yesterday, when these girl try to call me again for a certain girl Mam Maya. Actually this Mam Maya is using my number to give to her friends or I think her client. Last 2 months ago I received a text message charging me a fee for some payment for the tutorial of my child. I texted back telling you send a wrong text I'm not Mam Maya and I don't have a debt. Then she called me and told me it is the number Maya gave to her, so I told her my phone has subscription in a certain company you can check if Maya is the name under these number. I thought it was already finished. And then again yesterday another caller from a girl looking for Mam Maya again so I told her again for the second time I'm not Mam Maya, she told me she gave these number to her. I think Maya is a scammer.

It could be that the person is lonely or perhaps its not a wrong number at all. You should never give anyone information. If it sounds like they want to talk than quickly hang up the phone. You'll be amazed what people would do. http://www.triond.com/rw/465173
