Why was my mom so hard on me?

When I was small my mom was a very horrible woman. I remember waking up to her hitting me with the belt so I could get up and clean before heading off to school. I was probably around 7 or 8 years old. I had 3 siblings in the house, one older and two younger. My older sister also got hit and my brother probably a little, as for my little sister I don't think she ever hit her. But for some reason I was the one that would get hit almost every day. She seemed to have some sort of hatred for me, or she was taking something out on me and maybe loved me less than she loved the others. Now my mom is am old, sick woman who lives with me. She is still bitter and mean and complains because I am not nicer to her. When she came to live with us a few years ago I never realized she would come to make problems. Problems with my kids, my boyfriend and me. She has gone to the point of telling my girls not to listen to me because I am a bad mom, telling me I have to leave my BF because she is "tired" of our relationship and even tried to hit the grandkids a few times.Since then I make it a point to not really speak to her. Just good morning and very minimal chit chat, Most times I run out of the room she is in, because if we talk more it usually leads to a fight. What is it about this woman that she does not get that in order to be treated good, she needs to treat me the same?
