The human body can only bear so much pain (47 units - not sure how they are measured). Yet when a woman gives birth she must experience a further 10% on top of that. The equivalent of breaking 20 bones at the same time. I am truly awestruck. Ladies - you are amazing!

I tips me lid to 'em, but then I always have.
I don't know how they would measure pain, but I measure it very simply: yesterday was a 2, 3,4,5,6,7,or 8 painkiller (prescription) day. I imagine by that standard that giving birth may well be a 10 or 12 painkiller day.

I may have overestimated my pain levels, on second thoughts. Perhaps childbirth might be closer to 18-20 painkiilers.

Thank you for the amazing! I have 4 children 3 girls and a boy the were all born in the normal way and they were big babies too! the first 2 girls were not too bad but my son was 4 kilos 800grams and my youngest girl was 4.5 kilos! and 3 days after giving birth I had my tubes tied and cauterized to make sure I was not having any more babies! today my little girl is 33 and when I look back I can't believe I survived all that pain...I was present when my second daughter gave birth to my grandson and I was in tears I did not realize how much a person goes through when giving birth! I just ask can there be a better way to give birth? without so much pain? I just think as humans we are still in a very primitive stage because giving birth like that is not normal.

Wow, that's impressive. I just had my first child 1 year ago today and did it 100% naturally, no meds. I knew it hurt more than anything I had ever experienced, but it was a different kind of pain. A pain that seemed doable. A pain that wasn't going to stop me from bringing my son into the world.

I wish more men saw us as you do. I think if they did, the world wouldn't be such a sexist place. Why do men "rule" the way they do, and why are women still abused the way they are? In all reality, if people saw our bodies as they really are, and admired us for our abilities, the way they admire MEN for their contributions, we'd be ruling over y'all, with an iron fist!!
As a Feminist I am NOT asking for a switch. I'm not asking for men to submit to the tyrany women have to deal with, but I AM asking for equality, a world with peace, no violence, equality, no discrimination, etc. It's about time women everywhere are treated like human beings, and not either delicate dolls on pedistals, or punching bags, for the male gender.
Thanks for posting this.

Every birthing experience is different. The contractions are painful but some are stronger than others. Typically labor can last many hours and a first birth is usually quite long. I used a water pool for relaxation plus gas and air to take the edge of the pain in my first labor. In my second and third birthing experiences I didn't have any pain relief.

My pain tolerance must really not be that bad..I had normal births 5 times..and broke this same right ankle two times these past two years..and all i thought about was NOOO not again..just hate the recovering time..so boring..being home and not knowing what to do..i like being independent..not asking people to help me..so like when i had the babes..a few days after i started looking for some kind of job that i could take them with me...now paper cuts..that is another thing..haha..Hugs and kisses Pike

Yes ladies are amazing. They bear babies to their womb for long nine months and give birth. The whole process is so painful. Nature gave them the power to bear the pain. Mothers nourish their babies with very much patience. That is also amazing. Nature is unfair to ladies and has partiality to men.

Really? Wow! I never knew labor pains can be measured in such a way. I salute all the women who endured pain similar to "breaking 20 bones at the same time" in giving birth. Truly amazing the strength of the human (especially female) body to withstand great pressure. I do have a question though: I gave birth twice SVD and on both times, I was asleep. Am I still considered an amazingly strong lady?

This made me more guilty now!
I should go and say sorry to my mother who gave birth and sacrificed a lot. not only for me but also for our family.
The other day, we had an argument. We both have mistakes and all about this issue and since I am just her daughter, I should go and ask sorry! Your discussion made me realize that! :)
I love my mom. And all ladies, women and especially moms out there deserves so much love in the world!

Yes, we are. Thank you for noticing. :)
I have often wondered whether childbirth or breaking bones is more painful. Giving birth certainly hurts quite a bit (especially when the child isn't helping because they are being strangled by the umbilical chord). I have never broken any bones but I'm not about to do so for the sake of research!
