I have and have been discussing this for quite sometime now but I cannot do without discussing it again:
Some songs make me good in a very, very sad sort of way. Like I was listening to this song played on an acoustic guitar, which is very emotional in nature... and it reminded me of my friends, of the life that I could've had, of the things that I could've been a part of... and so much more. It makes me very sad, but it makes me feel good on the inside too. Good that I had such amazing friends, good that I had the opportunity, and a lot.
Please help me explain this to myself...

i also have this experience. there are songs that really makes me realize what i have and what i am missing in my life. my frustrations come back to me because of too much sadness. but i feel good after because i was able to regain the courage for myself to step up to what i think would be a better thing and decision for me. it is a way for me to discern so it has a positive effect on me.

I have this feeling too when listening to some songs. It helps even if they make me sad, it gives strength that others know the feeling too and can express it in a way that I know what they tell about...
Appreciating things is very good. There are things that make me sad, yet I'm thankful for them... it's a step towards positive thinking and a step that can help bring out of depression too.

Songs both sadder ones and sweeter fills your heart with joy and tender feelings. Sweet songs are in fact those that tell of the saddest truths. In life, songs depicting remorseful situations gain much appreciation because they emphasize truthful feelings and emotions in plenty.

I can totally relate to this boyuancy. Just the other day I was listening to Clapton, one of my favorite songs is Bell Bottom Blues and it always seems to make me weep a little. Both sad and glad all at once. I often do this on purpose, the crying is a great release for me, I nearly always feel better after I do this.
The song Wonderful Tonight also by Clapton reminds me how I missed out on so much love, affection (not only physical affection) and so much of the culture I grew up in. Depression for me started preschool and only recently (age 50 now) have I begun to recover. This lifetime of depression caused me to isolate in my earliest years and it has been a patter of most of my life.
I love a good cry and the release it gives me. :) I see nothing wrong with it but everyone's experience will differ.
Thanks for starting a great discussion.

This verifies that the power and the strength of the song. Songs are very powerful and they have the power to enrich you. They have the ability to change you and I am happy to tell you that I have the same feelings inside me when I hear them. I had gone for a journey for it's answer but later I found out that, we are humans and we people have such feelings inside us and it's quite usual

It seems you can find your true self by listening to these songs, and you could have done a lot of better but you didnot. I wonder what kind of super man you could have been if you just keep listening to these tapes and keep reminding yourself to do the right thing.

It is just that the song reminds you of circumstances that happened at the time. If the circumstances were good the lyrics will not hurt so much ,but if things went bad even the music will. Make you to feel sad. And if you are very sensitive, the song will affect you and you start to think of the mistakes you made. Let's say that your memory is too good and you are intelligent enough to realize you cannot go backi in time to rectify the situation.

I also had this feeling and I thought no one will be so, its not a big problem, you just have to adjust your thinking, just relax and listen to the music instead of the lyrics.

Hi boyuancy..
We humans are strange. When we are in a situation, we are often focusing on the difficult and sad parts of it. When we are past those, we remember the good times, and almost forget all sadness those moments held for us. Natural mechanism. :) Nostalgia is good, but trust me, you dont want any of those lives could have been could have had things. :) You may be in for better than those could haves my friend. :) Take heart in that and move on. There are always late bloomers. And some fade early.
