I have watched a few episodes of Extreme Couponing and was really amazed how a couponer (a person who uses the coupon) shop in a grocery store and has a bill of $230. It was then reduced by the coupons and the lady end up paying just about $6. So have you tried using coupons before? Do you do couponing to save money and stock up your closet? Do you get the necessary stuffs or just get it for the sake that its on a discount or free?

Many times, compulsive shoppers, and also the impulsive ones, can be affected by discounts. I mean this kind of buyers are those who buy something just because it's on a discount, regardless of whether it was what they were looking for, or if needed at that time. Personally, I don't use to use coupons for clothing or tech stores, but I use food coupons, like the ones you get from fast food restaurants.

Of course. Anyway, what I buy no matter if I need them inmediatly are books. I love buying books. Currently, I have more than 10 books I've bought but have not read yet. I find myself compelled to buy books. I hope it never become something I can't control.

I agree. I don't think it is necessary to buy items just on discount and have a stock pile of them at home which can last for a few months or years. Its a waste of space and also time spent collecting the coupons that way.

I would be happy if in Denmark we had coupons, but we have none. I would love to live in USA where they have lots of them, to make people come to there store.

True. In US there are a lot of advantages especially in couponing due to the variety of grocery stores competing against each other. How envious..

I do use coupons to great effect before. Obviously, however, to not as great effect as some people out there. Some people really do in fact use those coupons to a level that puts me to shame. Granted, I do in fact salute them for the money that they were able to save on them and really that is just rather insane like in the example that you gave. Of course, it is just a matter of playing your coupons right and ordering them. Then again, if this practice because rather wide spread, there are going to be some stores that are going to set some limits on what you can use. After all, business is the name of the game and they have got to make some money as well. Still I use a few coupons and am a few dollars beyond what I might have otherwise.

You have a point there. Here, the coupons are usually limited, like we could only use it for single purchase. I think it is to prevent us from using too much coupons at one go and also protect the business as well.

In my country we don't have these kind of good coupons, just coupons for more expensive places (like 20% off or something), which for my budget is still just really expensive. I once got a coupon when the first x fb fans of a new department store which we could spend anywhere. Now that was great. I miss these kind of opoortunities. I wouldn't be that extreme, though :).

True. Though I don't look forward for compulsive couponing, I too wished my country have these advantages in the grocery store. At least I could save up a few dollars for my next grocery shopping.

I don't do coupon. But i actually work a this restaurant for like 3 month and people that came and eat with the bills reach $300-400. Me and my friend that work there was like, what are they eating until the bills rise up like that. But in the end, when the guy came to the counter and ask for bills, he take out this cash coupon worth about $5 each and the has like 50 of them and paid only like the cents left after using the coupon. I was like, where did they get these things and not like 1 or 2, but a lots of them. Well, some people have their luck or something.

I think the most common coupons are food coupons in restaurants. In certain places they only allow using one coupon per table or something similar to that. I have a cousin who works at a particular company and earns herself a few hundred dollars worth of coupons every month for shopping. I would be glad if I were to get the same opportunity too! At least I don't need to spend money buying clothes, bags and so on! Still, I agree with you, it depends on luck too!

I was honestly thinking about this earlier today. I have yet to see an episode of extreme couponing, but I think I might have to catch one sometime. I know a lot of people who coupon and they seem to do well for themselves. My husband and I were just talking about how we can start lowering our monthly expenses and this, if I can learn how to drop my grocery bill from $230 to $6 like you said someone did, then we would be well on our way! I must take the time to look into this!

In the rising cost of living, we should learn some of these strategies of saving up money from the grocery store because they tend to overcharge us in a lot of products not including the tax they added to it. I think a lot of planning should be done before going for the shopping trips with coupons to ensure me get the maximum benefit!

Feel bad for the disadvantages. I live in Singapore, there are coupons but not that much and mostly items that are not necessary.

I have watched that show too. It takes alot of coupons to get all that for free and some stores if not most, here, do not accept multiple coupons the way they use them all at once. You have to check with the store policies. I think it's over exaggerated, I have never seen anyone doing that in a grocery or other kind of store.

The same here. Though my country doesn't have that much coupons, all of them have policies that avoid us from using it all at once. Like using only one coupon per purchase or having expiry dates on them.
