Sorry if anyone finds this question disturbing, but I'd be pretty interested in what kind of stereotypes or weird stuff you have heard from your own country by foreigners, who haven't even visited the place?
For example, I'm Hungarian, and these are the weirdest/funniest stuff I heard:
-we are living in nomadic conditions (like no fridge, we still use bows and arrows, living in yurts)
-we always and always eat spicy stuff and goulasch
-we are depressed (that is kind of true)
-we are a soviet country that always has wars and it is really life-threatening to live here, because every day is a survival...

This is funny. I did think of Americans, that way, too, when I was still young. I got to see more of the real American life when I worked for a call center and I hear complaints from Americans everyday.

Lots of Hungarians think the same thing, too... and I'm kind of like, seriously? Just because every single family, even the poorest middle class ones have a 2-floor house (like in Married with Children and stuff), they think everyone's so well-off there. They don't even think outside of the box (of TV).
Also, everyone's like Americans are so silly just because of Youtube videos about interviewed people and quiz show answers and stupid beauty pageants or Jerry Springer... they forget how many famous and well-known scientist work there.

Really? Ive never heard of those stories. For me, Malaysian people are good and peaceful people. I think its the people from the middle east who are deemed to be terrorists.

I come from England in the United Kingdom. In the south the people are frosty and in the north they are warm I have heard. We are meant to be very poor at cooking and the French are supposed to be gifted. In Australia some people called me a pommy tourist and I told them I am the English traveler. We are known as winging poms in Australia. We ourselves have jokes about the Irish being stupid.
I have just come back home from visiting Argentina and Prince William stirred up trouble by visiting the Falkland Islands just before the 30 year anniversary of war between the UK and Argentina. I went in an art gallery and it had paintings showing the war images from 1982. I was only a primary school child back then. I stayed quiet and didn't want to let the people in there know I am British.
British people are well known for discussing the weather. That is the one true one that I can mention. I like all different nationalities.

People complain we are really rude
We are also called war mongers who seek to invade every country in the world.

I heard people say that Aussies are totally laid-back and very much into vacation. I don't mind that at all; in fact, I enjoy the relax, easy going, and no worries attitudes of most people here. And by the first year I worked here, I was already entitled to take 4-week paid vacation...

In the Philippines, there are a lot of Filipinas who got themselves foreign boyfriends or husbands through the internet. Most of these ladies are from the provinces, and the guys are 10-20 years older than they are. Somehow, people would think that all couples of this sort (Filipina and Foreigner, usually caucasians) met thru online dating. The funny part is they call it a "success story".
However, there are actually couples who met each other outside the country, as co-workers or thru friends.
