Lately I watched a movie called We Bought A Zoo. In a scene I saw that the children sat in the back seat although at first I felt strange to it since the seat was empty near the driver. Then I realized that the children shouldn't sit in the front seat because it is not safe there if there is a car accident. Sometimes it may be ignored since children like to sit there.

i remember another discussion about car 'seating arrangements' which is believed to be safer in case of an accident... it is said that the safest seat is actually behind the driver - the most dangerous seat would be the passenger seat next to the driver - why ? in case of an accident - natural response - the driver naturally (not intentionally) would sway the car (himself) away from danger, it is said that is why - the driver of the car usually survives accidents, and their passengers dont.. but no matter where you sit yourself in the car - most important thing - PUT YOUR SEATBELTS ON.

Here in the States , officials have been trying to get kids to sit in the back seat for years. it is good the movies are showing it. The reason, the air bags. An air bag can kill a kid. They are too small for it to Help.

When you see a person in a car , they are wearing a seat belt. That is new! Many years ago it wasn't the law , but now that it is, in Every movie people are buckled in. People don't let others drive home drunk. and Most films you Never see anyone smoke. All of these are On purpose. It has taken a very long time for the officials to get these simple rules to become habits with the people. And they think, rightly, that if they see the hero of a movie do it , they will too.

I think it is more better at back seat, since if the accident occur mostly the hit is almost on the front and it is more safer with them at the back. But child or adult it more safer to used a seat belt for more protection.

Indeed, having the seat belt buckle to the child is giving much better protection. The rules in my country request us to buckle our seat belts, whether we are sitting in the front or back seat. It is for the safety of the passengers.
I ever heard that the air bag is indeed dangerous to children especially to very young children.

THey don't like kids to ride in the front seat because if there is an accident and the air bags come out the pressure could injure them.

You see, the design of the car's front seat air bag or other safety device in time of accident is usually invented with the adult in mind instead of children among today car manufacturers. So it is fair to say letting a child sit in front along side with the driver is not going to benefit the child if an accident occur during the travel, the protective device deploy will not provide a full protection to a child as intended. So it is always better to place the child at the back seat if possible due to the extra cushion the front seat cover provided to the back passenger in time of collision instead of a air bag cater to an adult in the front; but if the child is not hold back by a seat belt or child safety carriage, there is still high probability that the child can be thrown overboard by the high impact of the collision forces, so it is still very important for the parent to make sure their children are bucked up tightly at the back seat to ensure proper protection once they are seated behind the driver. Now i am sure you understand the reason behind it.

When I was growing up, we always had to sit in the backseat when we were younger irrespective of having someone in the seat beside the driver. I try to insist the same with my kids. But my husband sometimes lets the younger one sit on my lap in the front. If I am not with them, he lets the boys sit in the front.

Where I live it is the law that children cannot sit in the front seat. It has not always been that way, but that is how it is now. It is true that they are safest in the back seat or in the middle seat if there are three seats.

Yes, it is much safer in the back seat for children. If you have ever been struck or hit something and had an airbag come out at you, you would very well understand why. Even as an adult, they hurt and leave bruises. They can actually kill a small child. Anyone who thinks their driving is so good that this could never happen to them is just playing with fire. No one, no matter how good of a driver is above an accident.
Also in the event of a serious head-on collision, the child is more protected in the back seat because the front seats offer up a barrier of sorts for them. In the front seat they would meet the full force of the impact as well as flying glass etc.

Youless, since from a young age, my parents always advised us as children, to always sit in the back seat. They said children are safe to travel in car by sitting at the back seat. Besides that, they are not distracting the driver attention as well. Now, i always make sure that my son will be sitting at the back seat, whenever we are traveling by car. When he is stubborn, i had to side in the behind to accompanied him. I always make sure that he is never allowed to sit at the seat besides the driver.

how was that movie ? i have seen the previews and thought it looked good? i agree that i too have always thought a kid whould be safer in the back seat..as the fron seats both have air bags and if the kid was up front and the air bag deployed it would do serious damage to the kid probably smother them ..so i would not take any chances and rahter have my kid in the back..

It is true. Kids are safer when they are seated at the back but sometimes those seated in the middle, although they are at the back, get thrown to the front window when an accident happens. It is best to fasten them to seat belts.

Not only back side seating but front side seating is also not safe for children now drive the vehicle careful is necessary. Anyone can dash to our vehicle if we are driving safe. Back side seating is more danger because we cant pay attention on our child.

Well, those people who make a test about this so that all government would tell all people who lived in their country to do this might done a good job there. This things isn't new. It's been there for like years, it's the people who doesn't follow them well. Every rules has it's reason being made. If we actually took time to search for more information about it rather than ranting that it will make their life harder by following the rules would help very much.

yeah, it's safer for children to sit in the back seat. even though there can be airbags in the front seat of the car, which protects the driver, the airbags doesn't 100% protect the children in case of accident, because there is a risk of serious or fatal injury because of the airbag, especially if the head, beck or chest of the child is close or near to the airbag if it pops out of a sudden. The children should always put on their seatbelt.

I've heard that before, but as children (five and older!) my sister and I always sat in the front seat when there was only one adult in the car, and there were never any problems. I imagine if there was an accident it would be safer for a child to be in the back, but our parents were always perfect drivers. If someone else did something stupid on the road, they knew how to get out of the way, and protect everyone in the car.

Yes, it is much safer for a child to sit in the back seat of a car than in the front seat. With air bags it is so unsafe because of the risk of decapitation in the case that the air bag goes off.
My kids are always begging me to sit in the front seat but I always tell them that they cannot sit there until they are tall enough so that if the airbag goes off it will not hit them directly in the face.
My oldest child is 20 so if he is in the car we really don't have that argument.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Yes, its safer for children to stay at the back seat and should be fastened well. My little girl still wants to sit on the front seat with me, if its only the three of us (she, me, and her dad) in the car. But, we're really forcing her and getting her used to sit at the back. We give her something to get busy with, like a toy or the playstation to keep her seated at the back.
