I remember when my sister started going through the change... Poor thing she would just sit and cry or call one of us just sobbing her eyes out... I would ask her "hey whats wrong" and she would say "nothing"... Then I would say, "then why are you crying" and she would say "I dont know"... If I then pushed any further Satan emerged and said in a loud angry voice... "DONT YOU THINK IF I KNEW I WOULD'NT NEED TO CALL YOU"... Lol... So I reccomended she go see a doctor or a priest... Lol... The doctor put her on HRT and she's been mostly fine ever since then...

its good that you and your sister are close, i often envy other girls or women who have a great brother relationship i have older brother and older sister and we use to be close growing up but after i got bi polar and they both move way , they ddi try to be there for awhile but back them it was very hard on all my family and even me.. so now me and my sister never talk, and she trys very hard to keep my brotehr turned against me as well they talk but i dont talk to either one... so im hoping that o now have control of my life and in not going to keep going backwards and im trying hard to do better every day, and it shows, and in time we can all be a happy family again.. so when martha comes to visit me lol i will hide until she's gone , hopefully it wont be as bad this time, and i can get lots of rest and fluids .. along with my iron and folic acid pills.. plus may have to take another b-12 shot this week.. yikes.. be glad men dont have martha's in there life
as its not a pleasant thing to deal with.. but im gonna make the most of it and one day maybe get a hysterectomy if is keeps being so bad.. thanks for responding as well.. take care of your sis..

Lol... Yep luckily guys dont suffer from that, However we do also go thru what some researchers have started calling "Manipause"... When our testosterone production cuts way back we get lethargic, depressed and lack of desire and many of us dont know why... Its confusing and dissapointing as well... Diet, Exercise and supplements can help especially with a doctors consultation...

It seems you have afew years to go. It usually happens in the late 40's or early 50's. The femaile hormones will slow down soon enough. It is sort of sad. I went through a real upset when mine happened. It was brought on by a hysterectomy. Here is a Wikipedia on the subject. You might find it interesting.

I am sure the doctor will have some great ideas for you. There are soy products you can get at the pharmacy that help also. Some with natural ingredients.

I already un-friend martha as what you name it for almost 14 years now, when I went to my last Cesarean and lost the baby and also my cervix under go to hysterectomy surgery. I had a placenta previa and they have to took off my cervix. Ever since I never meet martha again hehehe. Well on the other side it is fine with me no more napkins and what so ever pain I felt again.

WEll, Martha is still hanging around these parts! I will be very happy to see her go though! I read somewhere that the average age for women to go through the change and be done with it is 52. This is disappointing to me as I will be 52 in just a few months... I cannot wait for it to be done although mine are not really as bad as many others experience... I'll still be glad for her to get moved on out! lol!

To find out when you might expect your unwelcome friend to finally pack her bags and leave, you need to ask the older women of your family. It's inherited in most families, and they can give you a better idea than the rest of us out here can. I'm in my early fifties, and Martha's friends are still visiting me.

It is said to be determined by genetics, but if your mom's change of life didn't come naturally, maybe you can only tell if you see the signs... or if you know other female members of the family.
I don't want to but could tell horror stories about my periods - mood swings were nothing, but sometimes I couldn't even leave the house for days when I had them, I even needed blood transfusion twice despite all the iron pills I took... they were ended surgically, had enough of them for all my life. I understand that you can't wait for Martha to stop visiting.

A lot of that has to do with genetics, how old was your mom when she hit menopause? As for me, that doesn't really make a difference, as I have a condition called Poly-cystic Ovary Syndrome, which put me into the 'change' without going through menopause. I was diagnosed 9 years ago, it is not life threatening and not really anything to do about it, unless it gets worse, which it hasn't. Kinda nice knowing I won't go through the hot flashes, mood swings, etc.

you are really luck there, i have horrible time with mine every month, with heavy flow and usualy last like a week , and i get grumpy and i feel yucky and just miserable the whole time, im so happy when its over.. my mom lost a baby that would have been her last child my baby brother or sister and after that they did a hysterectomy on her.. my dr want me to see a gynecologist.. so i will prob make an appt.. i am considering a hysterectomy as well..
