Will Windows 8 be a hit for desktop computers?

Considering that I've seen and used Windows 8's consumer preview, I am on the boat of thinking that it is too much of a change from the typical Windows interface for desktops that unless you have a touch optimized desktop, it is too much of an adjustment. Then again, that's just me. What do you guys think of the Metro-UI style which is set to ship with Windows 8?

Windows looks investing. I am personally not a fan of Windows but the OS seems promising. I am more interested about its performance on tablet computers and its overall stability. Microsoft needs something new in order to compete in the tablet market and windows 8 seems like a good competitor. According to Microsoft you should be able to switch to a regular looking interface when the official product is launched.

Personally, I think Windows 8 will only be useful on mobile devices and touch screen desktops. Using it with a mouse is too tedious for normal use. I can't even imagine what it would look like in an office setting.

Well I saw the preview on youtube some months back on a touch computer and it was beautiful.
Anways I didn't download the consumer preview version, was on low MB then, I still love my windows 7 edition and I ll stick to it.
Its a genuine copy and it came with my laptop when I bought it.
Fisrt genuine copy I have used in my life, not really a fan of buying softwares when there are much on the internet, but from my experience with the genuine copy, I guess I ll start saving to buy more.
PS: When I get the windows 8 I ll come back and say more.
Happy mylotting

I've been using the Windows 8 consumer preview on and off. I like it to be honest. It does have a very tablet kind of feel to it where most of the things for example are 'widgets / icons' instead of the old start menu / bar for example. It's not at all too much of a change in my opinion really its just 'fancy' looking but at the core more or less similar in how it runs etc. If you want I can snap shot a few pics or so to show you more of it actually running on a desktop machine with no touch screen capabilities instead of the microsoft glorified images.

Another xp user here.:) I am still very happy with the winxp, however i will soon move on to 7 because an x64 operating system can give you a lot more. Since I tend to be always a generation behind, i guess i'll skip the windows 8 and stick with 7 for a while. From what i've read, win8 are trying to do a lot of things differently and i'm not sure i like what i read till now. Only thing sure is that we should wait for it to be released first and then feel free to judge it.

I have to say, I don't think Windows 8 will do well in the desktop market. I've tried the consumer preview, and did not like it. I really hope Microsoft changes the way Windows 8 is for normal desktop computers. If not, then I'll be sticking with Windows 7. Then again it is a consumer preview, so they could make some drastic changes with the next beta release.

I have a doubt to it. I am still using Windows XP and I still like it and I have no plan to change my operating system. It seems that today people are much more interested in buying iPad or tablet rather than a computer. Namely it will have an effect on the new operating system market.
I love China

I agree. What I saw seems to have been thought with tablet computers in mind, not desktop. My last Windows experience was Vista, and it decided me to switch definitely to Linux. I have only kept a desktop under XP for gaming. Nobody has to run the last Windows version : if you don't like 8, you can buy another version, or throw Windows to the dustbin like I did.
