I just read an article that a 6 year old, Kindergarten student was just handcuffed and arrested from her school in Georgia here in the United States.
I guess this student was supposedly assaulting the school principal and doing damage to school property, including biting a doorknob (ouch)!
I guess they couldn't calm down the child and police were called and then the police could not calm the child either and felt it was necessary to handcuff the child and escort her to the police station.
Here is a link to the article I read:

This was pretty shocking to me, what do you think about this? I know we weren't there to see what happened but I mean wow! That is pretty shocking to me.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

I can't believe that they handcuffed and arrested a six year old child! What is this world coming to that you have to arrest a Kindgergarten aged child? I can't understand why a police officer would ever make that kind of call.
That really does sound pretty ridiculous that a full grown adult would have to call the police and then when the police step in they decide that they have to make an arrest like that.

my grandma was tellin me about this today and thank you for the link i just read that also....
as to my opinion i think that calling the police and handcuffing her was a little extreme. now i guess i can see them calling them to help calm her down but handcuffing her and taking her to jail is just outrageous even if they were unable to calm her down. i do not see why they couldnt have called a social worker to the school. they are the people that are use to dealing with this kind of behavior and are use to children who are young so they may have had a diffrent approach to try and calm this 6 year old down. and calling social service would not be a way to punish the parents but it would be a way to may be help them find out what is going on and possibly get some professinal help to fix the behavior. i understand that she was acting out and destroying things and hurting others BUT did they ever stop to think that something else may have been going on that this 6 year old didnt know any other way to express herself. not that calling an ambulance would have been a good desicion but they have the medicine that would have calmed her down and then they could have discussed what was going on and see if there was something going on that no one may be not even the parents knew about. if it was my kid i would be furious!!

Hello schulzie. This is not the first time that Tat this has happened a child arrested and handcuffed. Some time go I watched a piece about a child tear up a room as the teacher tried to calm her down. She ws on tape as the teacher tried to calm her down. They finally had to call the police because the teacher or other school officials are not allowed to touch any children even if it is just to restrain the children. i have also read of schools that handcuff ans have kids arrested kids for silly things like spraying perfume. Thing have gone too far both ways.

I think the government should change that. Because the fact that the children be in school are to learn, not just academically, but from every perspective to be a good functional being. We do not create school to train a mindless freak or robot so they will work for us in the future.

That is shocking....my sister works with kids like this and they have never called the police or handcuffed anyone...they have better solutions to the problem. Hopefully they will find another way if it happens again...I don't think it was right.

Wow it must have been bad to have to handcuff a 6 year old. Surely there must have been other ways to control the child!!! Like you say, we werent there so we dont really know the whole story and cant really comment about the whole situation.
Can you imagine how the parents must feel??? Receiving a phone call from the school or the police to say that your child has been arrfsted!!! Shocked

This is really insane and they should not do that. How hard it is to calm a 6 years old without handcuffing them ? At most they should only have to hold them tight just by using their hands since they are not that strong to fight the older people more likely to hurt the police. Shame on the police if they think a six year old are stronger than them by having to cuff her. A girl ! what ? Well, of course i wasn't there and does not know what really happen for them to cuff her. But from my point of view this is unnecessary.

There must be something that triggered for a six year old child to act like this one. But then I think that they should not handcuff him just because of that bad behavior. I think 6 year olds can easily be handled by a strong adult to behave unless the child is some kind of a special child or something.
The more that he should not been handcuffed if that was the case.

I guess if he's running amock then probably they need to cuff him up. You know how people are when craziness overcomes them, regardless how small or tiny a person or a child is.
I am wondering why the child behaved that way, does she have mental illness?
Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

The police should of never been called! That was so uncalled for! I also think the parentss aren't being good parents! That child needs disipline! Teachers can't give disipline anymore either! The parents and the teachers are at fault here! This kid needs to be disiplined and it if that is not working she needs help! No wonder she has been doing all this bad stuff! She is let to get away with stuff and she knows he can! As long as she can she will continue to act up! The teachers and parents need to be arrested for not doing the job! Not the child!

I was shocked to read this in the newspapers last night while I made plates for the newspaper. I thought for me personally ti was bit a bit aggressive for a 6 year old.
It was a girl to boot and not a boy. I would been scared out of my witts at that age.
So she through a fit. I do not think it was as bad as the teacher or the police officer described.
Thanks Unique16

That really does reflect badly on the people at the school when they cannot handle a six year old without calling the cops. That really just is something that just jumped right at me and popped me right in the face right away. Isn't that kind of their job? If they cannot handle one child, what happens if two, or three of them get rowdy.
Obviously that was the first thought, the second thought is the police had to handcuff the children to lead them out of there. You're telling me that grown men and women couldn't handle a child without handcuffing them. This entire storing is baffling on that account. This to be is one of those stories that you think would never happen and scarcely believe that it happened, but it did. Oh it did in fact happen.

i guess to calm children aged 6 years, it should be a good approximation of a parents/teacher to the child, the presence of an approach.

Wow is this for real? i mean how could they do that? can't they just call the child's parents, a hug can calm that child down... not a handcuff!

This sounds insane to me, to be honest ill think it is wrong to handcuff a child on 6 years old, but if there wasn't any other ways to get her calmed down ill guess there isn't much to discuss, i just read the acticle aswell, and i found it shocking still she was only 6.
