Has anyone not necessarily lied on there resume, but extended the truth a little? I am working on a resume and I put a school that I am not attending yet, but will be enrolling next month. Everything else on my resume is the truth. I am just getting frustarted and figured if I put I am going back to school now, since there is lapse in my education history that it would look better. Has anyone else done this?

it would be good if you the company isn't that strict. my sister in law did that but she wasn't asked anymore about it, she just wanted to put something in her experience so she gets the job she actually did LOL

yes that would be an awkward situation, plus having to try and talk yourself out of it. :) I know I wouldn't want to be put in that situation.

I think almost everyone exaggerates the truth on Resumes. I've yet to see someone who doesn't. You could however put onto it you are intending to do a course / attend the school instead of actually currently being enrolled right now. That way if you do get the job but end up needing time off for school they can't say wait a minute you said you had been there and passed it with this this and this ... I think some employers would be happy to employ someone who is trying to further not only their career but their education also. But then again everyones different. I've rather have someone who is willing to learn and work for it versus someone who has did it and assumes they know everything. So just be careful as lies on Resumes can catch up pretty darn fast to you if you're not careful. Goodluck

Well if you're honest at interviews regardless if you get the job or not you were honest. Your education is just every bit as important as a career so if you dont land this job just keep trying, Goodluck

Sparky yes, you would think that. At my interview I told the manager that I was going to go back to school. She asked me what for and I told her. She seemed impressed by that. So we shall see if it was good enough to land the job.

I have "exaggerated" the truth in the past, or glorified what I've done in positions. I wouldn't lie about your education though - I wouldn't say you've ATTENDED this school, but are planning on attending it. Just in case they check. With some jobs, education is very important and they actually do check up on things if the education is relevant to the job.

I didn't think about that, I figured they wouldn't really have time to check on about something like that. But I can see your point.

You should not put the school that you are haven't attended yet. You can just tell the one that will interview you that you ae enrolled and will attend the said school next month. Having a good resume will help a lot because you are like selling your self to employees but stating lies on it will definitely ruin and will have employers bad inpression on you. Interviewers can actually sense if what you placed in your resume are lies or not. Better be true to yourself as well as your resume because it will really reflects about you.

Well, I am not one to lie and I hate people that do lie. So,I guess I will not add it to my resume til I have enrolled. I take pride in the person that I am, so I don't want one simple little lie to ruin that.

I have never lied on a resume but have interviewed people in the past who did. We called their places of education and found out they never even attended. In this day and age I wouldn't be surprised if the majority are tweaking their resumes so they stand out better. Good luck on your job search!

Teamcholent, I am sure there are poeople that do that. Back in the day alot of employers wouldn't even check up on something like that, but I guess nowdays they do considering that alot of people do lie on there resumes.

I have never lied on my resume. I think it is awkward to do so, get hired and people find out you were not being honest. I think it would best to write University X, Course XX - plan to enrol May 2012 or to enrol May 2012. That way you are completely giving the picture. Good luck!

that is true, honesty is the best policy and I always live by that. I will put like you suggested on the resume about the college, that way I wouldn't be lying.

Better we must be honest on our resume. I am not sure everyone write all the truth in their resume, but i always write the truth only. What's happens if someone find out that we lied about our education and working experience? even a little bit is still lying!!!

I don't lie in my resumes. I know that most of the time they don't even read it, but if they did and checked my background, I would get in trouble. I did some volunteer jobs and jobs that were part of my education but was never paid for, but I list them as they show that I have some work experience on different fields.

If it counts as a lie, I put that in the professional experience section when I was a pollster in a theatre's survey as a volunteer... like they didn't employ me, I did it for free and I wasn't chosen for that "job". I mean, still professional experience, but I think the employer who see this think that I was actually employed there. Oh,m and I worked there for a month (it was a three month thing, but when I applied for the next 2 months, I didn't receive any feedback), and I wrote Spring instead of March. Now that's a smaller lie. But I'd never lie in bigger things, like I'd never list a language examination certificate I don't have :).

No,I would never lie about something like that. That diffently wouldn't look good on my part if they found out about it :)
