Realistic and Optimistic

The realistic person sees the practical side of things, has a very keen awareness and accepts reality. The optimistic person, on the other hand, is the positive thinker. He/she believes has this understanding that everything is as it should be and the future will as well. I'm half-half, meaning, I could either be realistic or optimistic. But most of the time, I'm the optimistic type. How about, dear mylotters? What kind of thinker are you?

For me, it depends. There are times that I should be realistic first before being optimistic. Its hard for me to become optimistic when I know that my goal is really not realistic. But there are times that you only have optimism to drive that goal to become realistic.

Hello Kat! I see your point. It's like those two idea contrast each other but without the other, you can't proceed. I just hope you don't confuse the two.

I tend to be on the more realistic side of things. I mean, I do like to hope that things are going to go great and often times, those hopes are not strictly misplaced. However, there are just times where it is just not something that I can go for, when the things that I see with my own eyes seem to be dragging my positivity down. I try to be optimistic, but there are times where we got to believe what is rather going on in the real world. Otherwise, we will get blindsided by the worst should it happened. The real world is obviously where realists live and while some might rather see it as a negative thought, but it is just something that we got to deal with. I think most realistic, even if there are times where I may lean towards optimistic, but it is not foolishly optimistic like some.

I agree with you. There are times that we have to believe on what is going on in the real world, than stay and be stuck in our fantasies. Thank you for such an insight! It's so complete.

I think am on the optimistic side my dear. If I failed and frustrated today from things I was expecting positive for me, I know there are still tomorrows to come (if I would still be alive). The reality there is I must learn how to accept the fact may it be failure, frustrations. Life is like a wheel isn't it? Sometimes you're up and sometimes you're at the bottom. Just wait patiently for your turn to be on the top...nice day my friend.. Mobhomeir here 041912

Yeah, I agree with you. Life is like a wheel. We just have to see this in a rather positive manner. There I go again with my optimism.

Out of these two, the realistic one. I'm not a really optimistic person, unfortunately, I'm worrying and pessimistic. But I'd consider myself a part pessimistic idealistic, who likes to daydream and stuff, if that makes any sense :).

Yes it does. You're a rather unique one! As long as you're good at handling it, we're fine.

It actually depends on the situation. There are times that I need to be an optimist so I can achieve results on a project or that I could finish a certain task that I was asked to do. Situations that would require my patience and hard work would encourage the optimist in me. But there are also situations which would need me to be realistic and practical. These situations are those which are mostly difficult to handle and are usually uncontrollable. These situations are those major problems that all of us would encounter in our lives. And when it comes to these problems, usually I'd need to be the realist since I could deal with it better that way.

Well, I believe I'm kind of both. As I am more of a realistic person most of the time, when I'm with my friends or is there some kind of problem I try to see the positive side of it or how can said problem be surpassed.

I would say, it all depends on the situation I'm into. There would be times that life kicks hard on you that you need the most positive and inspiring thoughts that your mind can come up with. It's silly though, but hey, that's my way of coping. I tend to be realistic when it's all clear in front of my face. With that situation, no way can optimism digs its way in.

It's actually healthy to be Realistic and Optimistic at the same time. Optimism is needed to achieve your goals, Being realistic helps you in Choosing your goals. It goes both ways. I think everybody has to be a little bit of both in order for them to make good reasonable decisions.
