Today and the next two days there is an event in my country called "The festival of research" where people can learn something about science and research. At some of the hospitals you can test your lungs, your muscles, your brain etc and you can listen to lectures about health.
At the universities there are are free lectures, workshops, exhibitions and many other things. Many museums and libraries also participate in the event. You can learn about health, physics, computers, animals, astrology, history and lots of other subjects. I have to work this weekend, but if I get time tomorrow I might listen to one of the free lectures. I haven't decided which topic I am going to choose.
Would you like to visit a festival of research? I am not sure if it only exists in my country or if it is an international thing, does it exist in your country?

Hello Porcospino,
I have not heard any such event before. Even in our country it does not exist. I think this is quite interesting and informative. You can learn many things with this and even do check ups. May I ask these check ups are free of cost?
Really great to know this from you. Enjoy the festival.

Yes, the check ups are free. I think that many people are going to visit the hospitals and get their lungs, muscles, heart etc tested. I think it is a good way to get some information about our health and find out if we are healthy or not We can find information about the arrangements online and I am going to find out which kinds of things they arrange in my local area. I am sure that I can learn something new and that is always a good thing. I wanted to participate in the activities last year (the festival takes place every year) but I was too busy, so I want to do it this year instead.

Good indeed, they are providing the check ups are free. I think the festival is helping each and every one to know about the heath status every year. Hats off to the person, who worked behind the idea of celebrating this festival. I am curious to know, who find this festival, I think it is really worth to help all people

I also find history interesting and the historical exhibition was the first exhibition that I visited. The exhibition described the history of welfare. There were small boxes where we could read about the different periods. The visitors could also try the looms that the poor and homeless people used in the workhouses in the past, you could taste the kind of food that they got in exchange for their work, and there was other activities as well.
After the historical exhibition I visited other exhibtions and workshops. Some of the other topics were mass spectrometers (a mass spectrometer is an instrument that weigh molecules, but I honestly didn't understand much of that), tips to save energy at home, science for children where you could make your own experiments, ispace (equipment for mental and psysical training) and twin studies. Unfortunately there were no lectures while I was there, but I enjoyed the exhibitions and the other activities.

Quite lucky enough to have been able to witness and be a participant in such occasions of usefulness beyond compare. The Festival of Research ...the implication is much more than ordinary. It is a great event where you would be able to meet a number of experts in different fields of activity. You have a wonderful opportunity in hand..utilize it ..make benefits..

I am happy that they organize a festival like that, and I think it is great chance to learn something new. With a festival like that they hope to inspire people and make the students interested in science. Relatively few students in my country choose to study science at university and they would like get more applications. At the festival there are many activities for children and teenagers, but adults are welcome, too. The activies are free, and I think that is great. I don't plan on studying science, but I still find it interesting to see the exhibitions.

Porco, so far i haven't heard this type of festival being available in my country yet. Indeed through it, we can get the chance to learn and gain many knowledge about our favorite subjects. I hope you do enjoy yourself during that moment, to gain the knowledge of your favorite subject. I will write you another email maybe this time through yahoo again. Since you are still having problem receiving my email through gmail. Hope you have a wonderful weekend over there.

Yes, please write me again I don't know why I still can't receive the anything that you send through gmail, but the emails just don't show up
It has already been a while since the festival of research took place. My husband and I went there in the afternoon, and there were no lectures around that time, but we were able to visit several exhibitions. I especially enjoyed the historical exhibtion. The topic was "the history of welfare" and it was interesting to read the information about the different periods. There were also some activities that we could participate in like crafts from the past.

We have a science festival in October in France, with a different theme every year -- it was around chemistry in 2011 -- ; many university labs are opened to the public during a week-end, and there are also public lectures, conferences and exhibitions like in your country. It is mainly intended for a school public, to promote science and research, but visits and conferences are interesting for everybody. In September there is a weekend for architectural and cultural heritage with other visits and conferences, more interesting for me : it is good to suit all tastes.

It is interesting to hear that you also have a science festival in France. The science and research festival in Denmark is also meant to promote science. Relatively few people in my country are interested in studying science and they are hoping that a festival with free lectures, exhibtions, workshops etc will inspire some people to study science, but the activities are open for everyone. Science has never been my biggest interest, but I am still interested in the free lectures, because it is a chance to learn something about a subject that I don't know much about.

That's a nice idea for everybody can learn and discover new things. We don't have that kind of festival here in my country but we do have some expo that held in the big convention that introduces new research it depends on the topic or field of their exposition. There are some arts, health, science, crafts and lots of new products that has been done from the research. And it is also available to to everybody they can join and learn and have some lectures too.

Yes, it is a nice way to learn something new. Many of the activities are meant for children or young people, but everyone can participate. My husband and I visited the festival two days ago and I enjoyed the historical exhibition where where we could read about the history of welfare and participate in the different activities. We were also able to eat the kind of food that they had in the workhouses in the past. The food is very simply compared to the food that we have today. The expo that you have also sounds interesting. I like activities where we can learn something new.

hi Porcospino I do not think we have a festival like that that
encompasses so many topics. I think that is just wonderful and one would be silly not to take advantage of any of the lectures and
other things one could manage to go to. I love the idea and here in
the US I do not think we have a festival. in various cities they do
have science exhibits and art shows at certain times of the year bu t there is not an all out concerted effort to have a real festival. I think it would be wonderful to have something similar in my own USA.

oh, it is very nice, i wish i have a chance to listen some topics of these lectures.
In here, we don't have the festival of research. You are so lucky, you know ...you can have more knowledge of topics that you are interested in.
Share with us what you know more after that festival, please...^^

I visited the festival Friday afternoon. Unfortunately there were no lectures at that time, and I was a little disappointed in that, but I had a great time anyway and I was able to visit the exhibitions instead. I especially enjoyed the historical exhibition where we could learn something about the history of welfare. In the first part of the exhibtion the topic was classical antiquity, and after that they moved on to other parts of history. I found the exhibtion about the workhouses especially interesting. There was information about the daily life in the workshouses and the rules that they had to follow. The visitors were also able to try a loom like the ones that they used in the workhouses and we were able to eat the kind of food that they used to eat.

I also think that this festival is a nice idea, and it is a good way to learn something new about a variety of different topics. I visited the festival Friday afternoon and there were many different kinds of exhibitions. At first I visited the historical exhibtion, because I am interested in history, and I would like know more about the history of the past. There were many small boxes where we could read about the different periods and there were some pictures as well. In addition to those things there were some activities that the visitors could participate in. The fact that we were able to participate instead of just reading about the periods made the exhibtion more interesting.
