Not as hard as I thought, changing my diet and losing weight.

In November of 2009, I hit an all time weight high of 185lbs. I had to buy bigger clothing as was not amused by this fact. I thought having an active job would help me lose, but it wasn't working. I found that it was because of what I was eating. So I tried to change my diet. Very difficult to do since I was on the road all day, and seemed to want to buy food while out all the time. This was not a good thing and I knew I needed to do something. My back was getting worse and worse, the weight was horrible. Not to mention that I was getting to large to fit comfortably into the restraints on roller coasters. Well, it's taken me over 2 years, but I've finally dropped a significant amount of weight in my mind. I've changed my diet completely, especially recently. I haven't fully cut out sweets but I have but down quite a bit and am happy about it. I am now down to 162 as of this morning and I can't remember the last time I saw that figure. My clothing is now too big for me. That is a good thing. My size 16 pants require me to put a belt on, they are starting to fall off. I guess I can't complain about this, but it means that I need to get new clothes again. I'm gong to put this off for a while though, I want to lose more before I buy something new. I have goals in mind, and I plan to work hard to meet them. I am going to challenge myself as much as I can. When I got to using my Wii the other day, I hadn't expected much at all. I had been in the obese category, and expected no change. But when it showed that I was overweight instead of obese, I was happy. I could see that I'd made progress over the last couple of months. My goal is to shed another 2lbs by the end of the month. Shouldn't be hard to do if I stick to my current diet of decreased calories. Hopefully, with much determination, I can do this, and keep it going. If I can, I will be able to reach all of my goals, and lose another 20lbs by the end of summer. Here's hoping.

You are losing at a decent rate and that is good. Two pounds by the end of the month is a very attainable goal, I believe. It should be making you feel better with your back. I need to do the same. It is important to change the type of eating. one of my downfalls is to have my lap top in the dining room. I want to eat, even when it is not meal time.

I'm the same way, but now I try to control what I eat when I'm at home. Not an easy task, but I'm working on it. If it takes 2 weeks to form a habit, then I've got a bit of a ways to go, but should be able to do it. I used to eat sweets constantly, when I was hungry, I'd eat junk and know I know that was very wrong and am trying hard to change that. Today I ate an entire cucumber while out at work. Bland, but it was worth it. Changing what I eat is really helping me. I'm hoping the weight loss will help my back, but so far I haven't felt any different, so hopefully after losing some more, it will feel better. I'm looking at spinal decompression treatments, hopefully that will help as well.

Good to hear you are loosing weight by two types of working by physical work out and the diet if you continue doing that more of the advantage being healthy and fit you can now enjoy. Having different method of diet is still a very hard thing to do but sticking with your goal is the best thing.

I lost 20kg for a little over 6 months, and there was only first week or two that were difficult but then i used to it. I will not describe what diet I had etc. but I must say that it became twice difficult to keep myself in shape after such success. I gained 10kg back now and very disappointed with myself, now I dont know how to make myself follow the same pattern as I used to.

You're doing a great job and just keep on it, and you'll be the happiest sexy woman on earth by end of summer. And, of course, after you hit your goal, maintain the diet and since you'll be more fit by then, you can do more activities to tone your body even more. For better results, it's important for one to do something you enjoy so you can maintain it and you won't feel like you're forced to it. As for me, after I give birth, I'll be going back to dancing and light aerobics, just here in my room. I need to shed off about 40lbs in 5 months or so.

Your discussion reminds me of a documentary I saw on television several months back. It was an experiment on how things would be when they brought natives from South Africa (not sure of the place) to England. They were taught how everyday life goes on in London and there they experienced food, music, and daily activities. Soon they found themselves at a home of a British friend and they were shown how etiquette is done in eating and stuff. Then they had a tour of his house and was shown how the day starts and ended. There they saw the treadmill. They were puzzled at it and the friend showed them how it's done. They quizzically asked "why?" - why the need for this contraption? Then the Brit told them that it was for exercise. They were puzzled to the word 'exercise' because they say that it doesn't exist in their place. After much explanation on the friend's side, the tribal leader of the natives (who also accompanied them) told them that people are crazy. He said people were crazy for doing such things because back in their village, when one needs to lose weight, they just needed to stop eating. hahahahaha. The documentary made me realize that it's all about food and what we put in our mouth. Yes, exercise plays a part but I think regardless how much you work, move or exercise, if one cannot stop putting wrong things in the mouth, there's bound to be effects on our bodies. So you're right. I wish you well in your endeavor because I too am trying to lose weight. Thanks for reminding me and inspiring me to see that my goal isn't impossible after all. Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

Hi Kris, This is fantastic news and I'm sure you feel like a new person. I'm trying to do the same. I may not be in the obese or overweight category, and some people feel that I should in fact add a little weight. But all in all, you can feel that age is catching up on you. You can't climb a flight of stairs without panting like a dog. You know that there are food you need to cut down or cut out altogether. You know you need to exercise more. You know your metabolic rate is what it used to be. Well, who doesn't know all these facts. But the fact that you choose to do something about it says everything about your determination to lead a better life and I salute you. I make little changes to my diet and lifestyle, even though it may not be consistent all the time. But it least I know my weight either maintains or drops a bit. I often use my clothes as a gauge, like you. If I feel that my pants are a little too tight, and I can't zip up without breathing in, I have to find time for a jog. It's not that difficult. I just have to come home a little earlier and my daughter will drag me for a jog. She's an active five-year old. From our window, we can see the jogging track below. She will be complaining she wants a ride on her scooter or bicycle. I will normally jog. We have a great bonding session and I get to reduce some fats. I'm trying to find food that will keep me full for longer. Any ideas?
