Wrong Songs At Wrong Times In The Shower Can Get You Unexpected Audience!

hi friends and lotters Last midnight, I was wide awake as there was a power cut in this hot and humid summer! When the power returned, I thought of having my Shower to get rid of that sweaty feeling! Now for those who dont know, I am a great Bathroom Singer and normally my pick is some cool song (depending on the mood that time). However, last night, I picked up a wrong song (In the Air Tonight From Phil Collins) at the wrong time (- Midnight or past that time is wrong timing I guess). I hadnt even finished my bath, when I heard someone knock at the Door. I wrapped up my towel and as I opened the door - she was my 85 year old darling - landlady - who had climbed all the stairs to know If I was Safe!. Seeing me just out of the Shower, she felt relaxed and happy - that I was safe. Now, I know the above doesnt make it a discussion. So here is to the discussion - What is your Bathroom Singing Story? anything that put you in embarrassments anytime? Cheers, theSids. ps: Observation #042012-104 of theSids (okay, I rearranged the observation numbers to suite me).

LOL, me thinks it was not the SONG that got you the visit, but the TIMING. Your landlady KNEW that you were safe because she could hear the singing. Perhaps visiting you at such an hour was her polite way of telling you to shutup after midnight;) That is unless where she's from, people SING when they are in trouble. "In the air tonight" is one of my favorites songs, from Phil or anybody for that matter, LOVE that song. When I sing in the bathroom, I sing at a sudued volume. I don't sing loud just because the water is on.

Hi HomeBase I do agree with you dear when you mention that it was the Timing. but then the Drum beats in that song too had some role to play I guess of course, it does comfort me that my 85year old darling is so very caring for me and I am thankful to her

"but then the Drum beats in that song too had some role to play I guess" LOL! If you were not only singing but also tapping on something to simulate a drumbeat, then I can definitely understand why the landlady would be concerned. It probably sounded to her like you were knocking and shouting for help instead of just enjoying a nice shower with some good musical accompaniment!

Oh yeah? Why hello sids.. First maybe i thought i would want to talk about these-POWER CUTS. Guess, these Indians are going to be forever suffering with this issue.I don't think there is any way the government is going to make us feel the soothing fans and Air conditioners for hours together. These hot summers- Argh! And power cuts. They all relly do make me feel "What the hell is going on here?" everytime. Here it's almost 8 hours to 10 hours per day about the power cuts.Imagine a day without electricity for about 8 hours!Almost my day is over with it.. Cheese.. You have already found a friend of yours- i would talk to myself and sing as well-in the bathroom..Lo! But talking is going to be weird.. Okay, off that, or ON maybe, i would advise me there what to do and what not to do, and how to scold my sister and how not to get caught to myparents for it.. And all this is going to be done in the bathroom. For me, that's the only place where i can be free of the dumbest sister of mine- okay maybe i should stop scolding her because she is going to be in myLot in a few days and if she is going to see this response- then i am gone somewhere oout of this world! My bathroom singing story? Oh yes maybe then you would laugh for a while. Anyway, if it's going to help your humor or whatever, then i am off with this weirdo. So i thought no one except my mom was there in my house.I as usual started talking, planning would be better, to hide off my sister's record, (oh that was a big fight between me and her before day-Guess that would be boring-Silly one but we would make it Big after all!) I was planning when and where's as if there is going to be a MISSION after all!Everything was done.Bu tlo! When i came out, you could imagine-my sister was in front of the bathroom door with the hot pan.. That was my day- I shouldn't have planned there after all- And it was all ALOUD(as if i'm addressing a conference) too.So the day was me getting something as a reward from her- it was 3 years back though-we both were considered kids.. (though i was 17 :P.. The rest of this story would be a bad nightmare- my mom enters the situation..So i should stop with it.Both of us had to realise our mistakes and be friends. That's a different issue.. So, yours wasn't a bad story after all.You could imagine mine? Lo! Hot frying pan, and beats on my leg, and i snatched it from her and she had the very same from me..So mom- her judgement-it was not reserved :( (WINK) Maybe there's nothing good to say cheers now (LOL) Good day-sids!

Dear Sidhu, First of all, I must tell you, I am not a bathroom singer. Now about the unexpected visitor, I don’t know how you sang the song, to give a wrong signal to the land lady, urged her to check you, whether you are safe or not. Here it is your did’s advice, stop singing in bathroom at wrong time, whether the right song or wrong song.

sids, I am not a bathroom- but I am a good singer joke. I don't sing a lot inside the bathroom while taking a shower. I can't sing with the water sprinkling on my face (lols) I would rather sing while cleaning the house ,cooking or doing the laundry. I remember when I was a kid. I had this habit of singing in our porch during summer evening. One of our neighbor is my avid fans and she sits in front their porch too listening to me and requesting a song. Then one night, a bat came to visit our starfruit and made a blind dive in our porch that made me scream. My avid fan also scream without knowing what happened Since then I seldom sings in our porch- after realizing the bats doesn't like my voice

Oh well, sids , maybe it wasn't the wrong song but really at the wrong time, since at that time supposedly everybody should have been sleeping. Thus, your landlady was anxious if you are indeed in the shower just singing , not any noise caused by trouble.

hi SimplyD You are quite right dear... that was a wrong timing no doubt! coz I do sing a little louder during the daytime and no one bothers (unless I have my loving wife in the house who doesnt think it is wise to be singing in the shower) as the dear landlady is quite caring, she told me that she was around just to check out if all was ok with me. I did apologize for my actions but she said she doesnt have much of problems with that

At least sids, now you know that you have to tame your singing at night. But your landlady said, she doesn't have much of a problem with that, so it means you can still sing . Though a little softer.

hi! lol nah... not a matter of having picked a wrong song but i think it's more of a wrong timing on your bathroom singing escapade/adventure. hehe just kidding! since i haven't heard you sing (in the bathroom or otherwise), i cannot pass judgment on how good you are... or otherwise. hehe again, just kidding! my dear... midnight? and you had your 85 yo landlady concerned... lol must be some singing! as for my bathroom singing story... hmmmnnn whenever my bath/shower is not hurried and i can take my time... i usually do a concert... errr a bathroom concert. hahaha i usually do some fave disney songs, miss saigon songs and some oldies and local songs. nothing too elaborate nor rousing. good thing we don't have 85 yo ones in our household. and i do my concert in the privacy of my own bathroom so i can enjoy my own audience in peace. not that i have heard any complaints yet. even if i overstay in the bathroom, other people in the house can use the other 5 bathrooms we have. cheers!

hi mylesnarvaez since i haven't heard you sing you know, I am always open to guests and friends... no matter what time I love my landlady no doubt about that. She is like my granny - aged around 85 and fragile too. I love the idea of the bathroom concert... but dear, I have only a small bathroom with not much of space and I doubt if there was a concert to be, who and how would others join

Hi jlyn Oh no, I wasnt screaming but I do agree that I was a little louder and even the midnight silence made it a little louder. If you heard that song, it has those drums and unfortunately I had my plastic bucket which I mistook to be a drum ps: I dont bath when I am in a rush! I bath when I am in the shower.

I've sang in front of people before and my voice sounded really funny for them If these were the judges of the Live Shows that hunt for singing talents - I know how rude they are and have that "air" of being a Celeb with them... and if it was an audience from family... well they many a times dont want you to do anything beyond what they think is right... (not to demean anyone, only my personal opinion, though). But now that you mention you sang to an audience, and you like your voice, why not do some you tube videos! You never know

When I was a kid (like 6-7 years old), I watched a lot of Hungarian music TV, and then there was an underground insane band, who had really wacky lyrics, and I don't know why, I was obsessed with this particular song... and it had a line like that "the kindergarten teacher is rummaging in my pocket"... and my dad thought I was saying that the "kindergarten teacher is rammaging in my butt" because "in my pocket" and "in my butt" sound a bit similar in Hungarian, especially said faster... and he was curious where I found music like thaz and how I could thing something that awful :D.

He typed back"Oh I am so happy I knew you are a nice lady " I honestly do not know where we Americans got that term hot dog from.

Hi doroffee Well, actually, I too have faced such moments or rather embarrassing moments. As we arent from english Backgrounds, but we do consider english Songs as hip and in (kind of fashion statement at the school or college), we all listened to them. And some even tried out singing. But you know, many a times, we could not make much of what the lyrics actually are... and that many a times does lead to severe conditions

Hi UIUI Cutting down time from other things for the bath is not always ideal and I agree to your preferences but you see dear, I have plenty of time and specially I do prefer a longer bath in Summers as the climate here is quite hot, humid and this salty feeling makes me really sick. Only during summers, I do cut down time from other things to make my bath more "feeling"

Lol...I can imagine your landlady being worried with all the shouting! I am a bathroom singer but I do in the bathroom where no one can hear and when no one is at home. Or else I only hum. Off hand, I can't remember any bathroom singing stories but I remember my sister as a child. She sings well but one little problem she had was that she would sing only two lines of a song all day long to the point where it annoyed everyone and we would ask her to shut up. Even beautiful songs would be taken off our list of favourites ..thanks to her overdoing the singing part!

Hi SViswan Shouting Noooooo! I am sure it wasnt the shouting rather it was the buckets that I used as Drums to add to my FX (effects) Your dear younger sister does remind me of my classmate at college who was a good singer and had a good voice too but would never sing beyond the opening "Antara" thing and would stick to that the whole day... good thing, I was in college for only an hour at max. Today, this friend is a Singer in Odia Film Industry and fails to recognize any of her old college mates

Hi reinydawn I am so happy that you as a parent do appreciate his talent and the singing. As a kid and now as a grown up, I was most of the times told not to sing even in the bathroom No privacy... And I was subjected to this thing only when I was at the hostel - as they had no locks on the doors and so you had to be singing or shouting or blabbering to keep intruders away And today, my wife doesnt allow me to sing beyond a level of voice... Now, please let us know the son's secret... maybe I can ask my wife to read this response and it would help

Hi jazel Nah, it is not a lift off from your discussion but the fact which happened last night. I made my old-aged, fragile lady love climb all the stairs only because of my Song at the Mid of the Night. Normally when my wifey is around, I dont get to sing out loud as in case it starts getting louder I hear her banging on the door of the bath or even yelling to keep my mouth shut!... My freedom of practicing the arts goes down into the drain with all those soap bubbles and she feels happy that I still obey her orders

hi thesids, So what's the moral of the story? 1. The power cut should not b there at all in our country. 2. Even if the power cut is there, there should not be enough water for a shower (due to the water scarcity) 3. Darling/s should be 80+ 4,5,6,7.....pls don't sing at midnight and disturb the sweet and caring landlady. Thank god, only she came running... she didn't call the ambulance... . Yes, i used to sing some hindi romantic songs when our bathroom door lock was broken for a couple of days. cheers..

Hi Viju Moral of the story - this is India and you can do anything anytime, anywhere you want I wonder had it been some US or UK, the landlady or neighbors would have called in the cops and I would have been fined (penalized) even with soap all over me Btw, I loved you #3 = Darlings should be 80+ - mine is a real sweetheart so very caring. And i used to sing some hindi romantic songs when our bathroom door lock was broken for a couple of days does remind me of my college hostel days - when I was forced to learn this art of Bathroom Singing as there were no locks on any of those rooms
