What points should I consider before hiring a web developer here in sydney?

We are trying to pursue our business online and we are in need of web developers right now. It's kind of a first time for us so we really need suggestions right now.

You should mainly look for people proficient in their own programming language (e.g. PHP and ASP), if you're looking for some back-end developers. For front-end developers (that's interface), you'll need some people who are creative in designing web pages and know some flashy, eye-catching effects (JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, and even HTML5).
