Hello MyLotters, I was wondering when you read write a response to discussion do you read all the other responses or do you just read the first post and offer your opinion. I find myself torn between these two options because I believe that appreciating the work other people put in replying feels good and proves pretty educational and I would like for people to treat my posts like that. Also I want to really contribute with original thoughts instead of just repeating the advice and/or opinion of those who replied before me. But,from another point of view it's not really a good idea to read other responses before offering my own opinion because I think that my answer will not be entirely my own and will be influenced by others.Still, work deserves to be appreciated and ignoring other peoples thoughts seems a little bit...rude. So what do you think MyLotters? Which one is better:reading the other replies before writing your own or after?

Only 2 days ago this topic was already posted as you can see here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2650481.aspx Maybe you would like to take a look and see how everyone responded there as this one, as it is a repeated topic, will most likely be removed. You can use the myLot search to see if a topic has already been posted. Welcome back to myLot!

Whichever method you feel comfortable and easy. I think it make sense to me to read write a comment back to a member's response to my discussion after one instead of all the responses especially if i have so many responses to read them all at once. I like to reply to my responders and read their responses, that is the purpose of me starting a discussion, if not what 's the point of having a topic at all if you don't like to reply, it just doesn't make sense to me.

I always read all the responses to my discussions and like to comment back but when a discussion created by another person has, like 4 pages of responses I think that by the time I respond my opinion will be entirely lost... Thank you for responding!

Hi ShadowSky, welcome to Mylot..:) First of all, it is in the guidelines that we must read all the replies so we don't make a duplicate reply. I do read the first page, but truthfully when a post has many pages, I end up scanning the rest, especially if the replies are really long. I also do this in case I have something to say to the person who replied. And in the long run, I end up having a nice conversation not only with the one who started it, but with others as well...:D

Well, if we strictly follow the guidelines of Mylot, they speak for themselves. That we should refrain from answering a question even before reading all the other answers offered by the other user. However, I believe that few people are okay with this principle. First you have to see if the discussion is a direct question to which there is only one valid answer, or it wants to collect the various opinions of those who reply. In the first case, I think imperative read all the answers, in other cases, it is at the discretion of the responder. However, I must point out that if you read the answers, sometimes what we would like to express once, could be influenced, so that our response is no longer just a product of our thinking.
