Honestly, I listen to a little of everything except for music with no lyrics and hymns and the like. I even partake in a tiny bit of country from time to time.
Currently my playlist is blasting Boston, but also listed for the evening are Prince, Madonna, Godsmack, The Dirty Heads, Limp Biskit, Lil Wayne, Eminem, and more.
I do have favorite songs tho...#1 is The Piano Man by Billy Joel and #2 is Against All Odds by Phil Collins ...I have not been able to choose a 3rd all-time favorite song.
My top four favorite bands are: #1 Motley Crue, #2 Godsmack, #3 Poison, #4 Metallica.
Do you think that classifies me as a random metal-head?

I love different types of music myself but i dont know why people pigeon hole themselves into labeling themselves a certain type of music. so why classify yourself as a metal-head i would just admit that you like whatever music that suits your mood at the time.

I am also curious as to why people bind themselves to one genre.
Thank you for your response Ollie :)

If I was to answer yes then you would be mad at me for being judgmental, wouldn't you?
Being a country boy I don't have too much time to listen to music of any kind but when I do it is country or the classics.

"Random" metal-head. Hmm. Haphazard, chance, fortuitous. Yet your top 4 bands are all metal. Spock...
Based on data presented, captain, it appears as if the word "random" is being used for satirical purposes.
McCoy...
I'M A DOCTOR NOT A MUSIC CRITIC!!

lmao!! Great analogy!!
Now beam me up Scotty, I'm bored on this planet!! yay!!
One of my life-long friends just told me a few hours ago that I've always been random and that's "just you Shannon!!" Gotta love that! I love being random!!
But I was also raised on Rock n Roll...my parents cringed and called me a traitor when I started asking for Prince, Wham! and Duran Duran back in the day!! yay!!

You do realize being "random" is a predictable consistency, right?
Music by itself, is a cacophony is noise. And the cacophony in our individual brains identifies with certain ones and of course, not with others. Thus our preferences our realized. So having "random" choices in music is perfectly consistent in the chaotic availability we've been presented.
Adding lyrics to this noise further increases the variety available with the bonus of us having something that we can intellectually (I use the term loosely) identify with because of our life experiences. Or not.
So in summary, my dearest friend, you are perfectly normal in this perfectly unpredictable world.

Does one really need to be classified by the music he listens to?
I listen to various genres too, from Contemporary Rock to Heavy Metal too, and I even listen to Classical and Opera songs.
I don't think being classified as a Punk, Metal, or whatever matters. It's about how the music appeals to you and all.
