do i need to load the cd of the mainboard. but i can use the computer except for internet use. so do i need to load the cd of the mainboard. only that i can't locate where i have placed the cd of the mainboard. it was custom built. i would like to use the desktop again for internet browsing although i have laptop and tablet for internet use. but i want to learn how to make the internet work again .

I guess you are right look for the cd for the mainboard drivers. This is very important when formatting your HDD all of the drivers including those that you use like for Video, LAN or WIFI are erased from the HDD. When reinstalling it Wndows will definitely not recognized the drivers that your devices are using unless it is generic type which is not in your case especially for those that are branded ones.
If not you can always browse through the home site of your PC and from there you can always download the drivers for you main board.
