Some good news...FINALLY!!!

As many of you may know, I have been in the hospital for the last several days. I found out Thursday that I had c-diff so every time the nurses came in the had to have gown and gloves on. Yesterday they did both a CT and a CA-125. On the CT, it showed some spots on the spleen, but the doctor said that the radiologist couldn't tell if it was an area of the spleen that had infarcted (died?) or if it was a tumor. The good news is that the CA-125 was down to 81! That is half of what it was when they checked it last time! I just hope it continues in the same way. She said she was going to keep me here for one more day to make sure that the infection is gone, but if things continue as they are right now I could be going home tomorrow. Just wanted to let you know. Have a great weekend!!!

i just looked up C-diff and found out its a stomach infection and think it must be similar to what i had. which was H-pylori. maybe even the same thing since it sounds about the same. it started a lot of my problems.

I thought it was more in the intestines, but maybe in the stomach as well. Is H-pylori contagious? I'm sure the problems it causes are similar, but I had never heard of that one causing extremely smelly bowel movements. Thanks for the info. Have a great week!!!

I just saw your post, Deb. I am so glad!!! The CA-125 is a wonder!!! I hope that the C-diff will leave you with as little side effects as possible. I will have my PET CT at the end of April or the first week of May, depending on a holiday. Meanwhile, I try not to think about the outcome. And being at home is SO nice! I hated the hospital last year when I had that intestinal disorder. Not only did everyone wear masks and gloves but they managed to make the worst meals I have ever tasted. A gret HUG and HOORRAY!!!

It was hard to deal fight, but the worst part of the whole ordeal was knowing that I couldn't see anyone unless they were wearing a plastic gown and gloves which they took off before leaving the room. I got home this afternoon and I hope that I don't have to leave again. Have a great week!!!

I came across this article accidentally and it seems that you are giving the updates of your health problem off and on. You have mentioned that your CT scan shows some spots on the spleen, but the radiologist is not sure about the nature of the spots, it might be due to infarction or due to a tumour. I cannot make out what you mean by c-diff and CA-125. would you kindly clarify those terms? What are the complaints you have and also what are the medications you are receiving? Hope the almighty God will be kind enough with you.

C-diff is an intestinal infection that causes diarrhea that is easily spread in a hospital setting. CA-125 is the tumor marker for ovarian cancer. I am in my second recurrence and third time in chemo. I probably got the infection when I was in the hospital for the cisplatin desensitization treatment. I am told that my next cycle will be delayed until after I finish with the antibiotics. The chemo I am on is gemzar and cisplatin and they now have me on flagyl for the infection and magnesium oxide and potassium chloride supplements to get those levels up to normal. I have had a lot of bloating or swelling in my belly and the stoma swelled to about three times what it was when I put on the last pouch. I was extremely dehydrated when I went into the hospital last Wednesday and hope that never happens again. Have a great week!!!

Well glad to hear that atleast you got some good news and hopefully you will be going home today if you haven't done so already. I am however sad to hear the results of you CT Scan and hope that it's not a tumor. Let us know how things turn out... And like always I will always keep you in my prayers!!!

I got home about five hours ago. I think because the CA-125 was down so much that it wasn't a new tumor. I saw in one of the other responses that some other things could cause that to show up too. Have a great week!!!

I am home now but still not totally healed. They did a cat scan looking at my insides and just found some spots. They weren't sure it meant anything. The tumor marker was way down which is a good thing. I just hope it continues to get better. Thanks for the response!
