When you have this many cats...

you never know where you are going to find them.
The roomie wanted to get a glass (well, its plastic actually) and she opened the cabinet door and found... a cat!
We are always chasing them out of the lower cabinets but that's on their level after all.
Now this isn't the first time we've found a cat in there, but the last time it was a much smaller cat on a lower shelf!
So, I'm wondering what he was thinking...
"If I'm sitting here, maybe they'll think I'm a plate and put food on me..."
What do you think?

It would be great eating if you mistook them as a plate! It never ceases to amaze me where I find the little furry fiends! I think they take great joy in finding spots where when I find them I'll jump out of my skin. They have hidden under laundry, in cupboards, on shelves in the bathroom behind the bathroom door, in the dryer (and washer) and I've even found them in drawers where there was no possibility of them getting into them.
The most fun was when Willy curled up on top of the fridge among the stuffed toys. I was doing something in the fridge and I felt something pull my hair. I jumped sky high, and when I landed I went back to work in the fridge. Then something pulled my hair again. I jumped again but couldn't find what was pulling my hair. Finally the third time there was a kitty face peeking down at me, I swear that he was laughing at me! He loves doing the "reach out and grab" thing. It's so cute because he will kind of tilt his head to the right, with his eyes wide open and a little smile on his face. He'll give a little "yeow?" and then when I start to walk off again he'll grab me again. I think a lot of it is because he wasn't popular with the granddaughters. He wasn't a "cute" kitten, Khuay on the other hand was not only cute but he was a real character too. So Willy was ignored by the girls. I reached the point that I couldn't stand it and I took over with him giving him the extra love and attention he so desperately needed. He now is my constant companion (he's laying beside me now, and will be in bed with me with his head resting on my ribs) and I am sure he would do anything to protect me. He also has a wicked sense of humor. In the next couple of days I'll post a pix of him.
Oh, of course speaking of strange places to find a cat, I find Dinglebeary in the bathroom hamper on a regular basis. It is strange because it is a tip out hamper and there are two doors to that cupboard. I usually find him in there and what baffles me is that he's in the hamper and the cupboard doors are closed.

Cats can walk through walls, besides, they can open the door just enough to get in and have it shut behind them sometimes (I've seen Oliver do that)
Funny thing, some cats can pull open doors and some can push but its few and far between that can do both!

Long ago and far away, I lived in a tiny house where it was expedient to replace the bathroom door with a bifold door. Mona, our cat, was able to open it from either side, whereas some of our friends were constantly getting trapped in there. She also had no trouble opening the screen door either in or out.

I think that cats believe that if there is a door, they belong on the other side of it. No matter what door, no matter what time of day. It just so happened that this time it was a cupboard full of dishes. I can imagine one curling up and sleeping on a plate.

My first cat, from my first marriage rode home to Oklahoma with me when hubby went on a WestPac cruise. She ran in the front door at Mom's and found her plant watering kettle. It had a large removable lid and Butterfly jumped right in, curled up, and stuck her paw out the front spout. I do not know if I ever got pictures. She also used to run to a floral bowl type vase and curl up and it would roll with her. She was about six months at that time.

GG - Harmony loves to come in the front door just to be able to go out the back door, even though she can and often does walk around outside from front to back yards. (And vice versa.}

That's so funny! He looks like he just woke up! Or maybe he's just half-blinking. I've only got one cat myself, and I've found her in a few strange places but never in the cabinets. I had a friend who found her roomate's cat in the closet and had no idea how she got there! The cat was nice and quiet for most of the afternoon and then just started throwing herself at the door when she couldn't get out.
Maybe he did think he'd get an extra snack if he pretended to be a plate.

Sounds like it might have been the perfect napping spot until you came along and turned out all the lights. Nice and dark, no other cats or people to bother him... Or maybe he was just lying in wait to scare your roomie. Cats are so funny, I never get tried of their crazy behavior and they surprise me all the time.
Been thinking about getting another cat.

He looks so comfortable. He probably liked it because he thought no one would bother him. I never had a cat get in a cabinet, but one of them would get on the counter and open the door and get the marshmellow out. I don't think he ever ate them, (the bag was never opened, just had a lot of holes in it) he just wanted the bag out for some reason!

How many cats do you have?
I have three, and two of them do this. The other one (a girl) never gets into any anything or makes an messes. The two boys are constantly trying to mess something up.
I think cats get into spaces like that because it makes them feel safe. My cats are nuts about small boxes. I think that for some reason they like small spaces.

I have 3 cats as well, two girls and one boy. You're right, cats do like to feel secure in smaller places like boxes, cupboards etc. It gives them a sense of security, I think, to feel the sides of the box (or whatever) around them. One of my cats really likes sitting in the bathroom sink. Cute.

I have three tomcats.
I didn't castrated them so the have an ichy of mating during these days.
I fed up with the annoying meaowing all night so I lock them out of my balcony.
Next morning, I couldn't find one of them....
But I'm sure that my balcony has no place to escape....
After a long time searching....My black tom is "mating with the catnip(behind the flower pot)"...
My catnip had sperm for breakfast....WTF

Maybe he wanted some "alone time"?
My erstwhile mother-in-law just about dropped her drawers one morning when she opened the fridge and the cat jumped out, none worse for wear after spending the night in there.

I've yet to see any of my cats do that. The closest I've seen them doing something like that is they'll get into the linen closet and take a snooze if it's ajar. But I guess if they want to hide or time away from everyone else that's as good of a place as any.

The roomie pulled out a trash bag that we keep in a little chest in the kitchen, when I went back to check on the rain (we had a bit of a storm pass through) there was Taj in the chest and he had shoved the trash bags out of his way to get in! Silly goose!

Hi ElicBxn, My cats never get into cupboards at all but one of them is black and she tends to be able to become invisible in little hidey holes all over the house, she seems to shrink to be able to get into the smallest of spaces and I will think she is out and then suddenly she will emerge startling us. huggles. Ellie :D

How can the cats possibly get into the upper cabinets? Have doors been left open, or is there a hole in the wall behind the cabinets?

What a cute cat! It appeared nonchalant when you took a photography of it.It wouldn't have thought its keeper intended to introduce it to so many people. The cat likes sleeping by daylight. It usually goes where it feels quiet and comfortable. There is nothing like the lower cabinet.
