Should I say 'Hi' to him, to start off with?

I work in a very big company and I know of a person whom I like. He is kinda new to the company and I have been working here for the last 4 years. We always happen to be traveling in the same 'tube' after work. He works in another department opposite to my department. We use to bump into each other at the cafeteria/wash room/pantry/in the floor etc., almost every other day. But until today we have not greeted each other. I at times do think he'd steal my glances when I am supervising the floor and he on the other side, is conversing with his clients...our bays are just 15 steps away from each other. The reason I like him is because he is very quiet and shy like me, do not mingle much with people and he looks decent and dress decent than many other employees. I guess we also have some mutual interests. I want to befriend him or just for the heck of it, chat with him and start to greet each other. lol. It also gets you that little uncomfortable feeling when you see a person everyday of your life but you do not wish/greet each other. I am not an introvert and that's what I think he is too. Sp how should the conversation starts between us? Should I just say Hi to start off with? I am really bad at making new friends in real world. Mylotters please suggest.

Well personally I feel it never hurts to say Hi to someone you work with no matter how big your company is. Now if it is someone that holds a higher office than you you might need to keep it casual but if you are a regular employee saying Hi and finding time to try and get to know them better and see if there could be anything ever between you would be a start. But remember this is a person you work with, and business relationships might not always be acceptable, and never try to be too forceful. But when friendships can develop that is a plus for sure.
